That was pretty brutal, poor Alibaba.

And Toto's actually the only one who's worried about him. ;O

I don't see it myself. Sokka is a sidekick character as far as I can tell. Alibaba, on the other hand, is arguably more the protagonist of the series than Aladdin himself. Pretty big difference.

Alibaba is the heart of the series for me. He may not be the titular character that defines the world's setting and conflicts, but a large part and attraction of the series is about his struggles and journey from boy to man to king.

Its actually even more so as Sinbad and Hakuryu become more prevalent in the series, as the parallel runs deep among the 3 of them as King Candidates.

That really was brutal. I expected the crowd reaction and Alibaba losing a bit, but being bitten from shoulder to fingers and what happened next was...a bit over the top for Magi. Also WTF @ Alibaba's flashbacks, isn't this one of the cases where he'd normally flash back to his days in Sindria, training with his master or something?

Hakuryuu's tofu mental (as the author describes it in her illustration below) kinda makes him not a vessel worthy of a King. Kouen, the Sindbad equivalent of Kou Empire, has all the appropriate attributes of a king, and it's a long road ahead for Hakuryuu to overcome that. Even longer than Alibaba to Sindbad.

Yeah. I don't see that much parallelism between Hakuryuu and Alibaba. The latter is way ahead in many ways.

Hakuryuu is losing himself, and even though he hates his mother, he probably will end up becoming her poppet. Besides, there's no way Judal would seriously consider him as proper king candidate. He's just a pawn.

The way I put it was a bit misleading. I don't mean Hakuryu's parallels in the context of the 'Road of a King' that Alibaba is clearly walking on right now, with Sinbad/Sindria being the most representative of that ideal.

I mean it more of the fact that Hakuryu's set-up as Alibaba's rival/Cassim 2.0. With how Hakuryu's developing as a character ( be it his revenge or his love ), everything ties back towards an eventual clash with Alibaba, which will benefit Alibaba's character development.

^ That I can agree with. It's clear they're setting up an eventual confrontation between them. And Haku is definitely becoming a Cassim like figure.

Chap 142.

I realized why Alibaba spends so much time as the butt of Magi's humor. If he was this badass the whole time the other characters would be boring (except Mor)

He usually is the comic relief in the peaceful chapters, also he seems to be quite the ladysman (which he actually does not realize)

142 is out.. and why is it that Alibaba is getting cooler for each chapter?

Anyway, isn't scherazade is one of three magi?

Alibaba's always been cool when it matters... It's just quite rare after the end of Balbadd arc.

Besides, the Sindria arc never did hammer it in, but it was as much as BSOD-moment for Alibaba as well, where he was clearly very lost as an individual after technically losing his country to the Kou Empire, and was unsure what could be done with his limited abilities and influence, since at the end, he pretty much left it to Sinbad's political savvy to limit the damage to his nation... but it was pretty much a defeat through and through.

And... someone needs to be the buttmonkey.

Even Sinbad is not above being the stick end of jokes. The difference is that his swag factor is off-the-charts while Alibaba's swag-o-meter still gets dragged down by moments like... coughing while smoking with a cigar.
'
Also... Toto getto?

Mor, Elizabeth, Margaret, ( potentially Kougyoku ), and Toto... Alibaba's having it really really tough with the kind of women he's drawing. >.>

"Rumoured" to be one of the 3 magi.

I think that particular line from Sinbad will be a potential plot point. Sinbad has pretty much confirmed the legitimacy of Yunan and Judal as magis from his own experience, but Scherazade had the extra notion of being questionable whether or not she's actually one.

Although at this point, she's officially counted as one, and no reason to doubt it.
Sindbad never met her, or heard of her raising a dungeon, so he's simply not sure.

I'm intrigued about the shilouette of Yunan.
A freakin Snafkin (Snusmumriken) Magi, both in looks and the wanderer trait.

Yunan will appear in person in a few chapters (if you're following the scanlation). He's a pretty weird dude.

Ah, I missed the Mor chapters.
I'm not following scanlation, I'm following it in Sunday, but there were few weeks I missed in between.
Namely the introduction of Titus and Mor's parts.
