Good grief why do the Japanese take so long to convert these into home media? I mean the Avengers showed in the summer and came out on DVD not too long ago. Japan on the other hand takes a year or so to get it on DVD.
Anyways, from what I gather Spoiler:

Okay, so I'm trying to carry over the conversation from the previous thread, which is now just for movies 1 and 2.
I saw the movie on the weekend it came out and I'm still confused as hell what I actually watched. The review on Kotaku was expressing pretty well how I felt, confused and a little bit annoyed by several decisions that were made. As a movie for itself it is horrible, because in the end nothing actually happens (the few events that do happen are retreads of prior events), the rest is exposition. Still I was kind of entertained... Spoiler:

Well, I still think it hangs in the ballance. Spoiler:
The only thing I'm still wondering about and which not even suspension of disbelief is able to help with Spoiler:

Also remember that due to the very collector type business you have with BD and DVD over there, only the most hardcore would buy these (even if series like Eva wouldn't have any trouble to break the 100k unholy benchmark), whereas it isn't uncommon for moderate and hardcore fan to watch the movies in the theaters several times (especially if any stamp event is included, such like K-On! which required an insane 9 stamps rally to have the goods, so 9 times the movie). Edit: ok, done... 550 posts, urgh...No, I ain't going to do that for 1.0 and 2.0.

Then in the second half most characters are brought back to level 1 as Shinji feels betrayed by his father when he forces Unit 01 to nearly kill Toji, Asuka takes her defeats really badly until she breaks (the same happens in the manga but she is calmer and it results into a funny scene with Kaworu), while Rei at least dies happy that her sacrifice saves Shinji. Shinji then goes to level 0 after Rei's death and learning of her true nature. He becomes attached to Kaworu but basically uses him to get away from the people he knows (Kaworu says this in the manga). When Kaworu dies Shinji goes to level -5 and is worse than ever. The End of Evangelion didn't really help him to recover. |

I hated the tv series.
I've really enjoyed the movies, especially with how the story seems to be slowly moving more and more away from the tv plot, which seems to continue to hold true if the preview for number 3 is anything to go by. I'm enjoying the movies enough that I might almost forgive the franchise for Shinji, and what I like to project upon him-the complete castration of 90% of the male characters in anime since.

The OST is out.
Eargasm starts NOW! UPD: unbelievable. The OST has less epic-themed tracks, but at the same time the mix of rock and orchestra gives it so much power and suspense...

Seeing as you can always immerse yourself in the /wrist angst of the original, I'm not sure it makes much sense angsting over another interpretation that others really enjoy. This alternate telling in no way makes the tv series magically disappear. /goes off down memory lane over the high blood pressures Escaflowne and its iterations brought Why do we, as the fandom, always go in these oh so predictable circles?

Also several visual hints can be found throughout the movies that seem to imply that several events seen in EoE happened. This and then there are the many, many things that Kaworu says in Rebuild 3.0 that make it pretty obvious. |
