Oh man, as soon as I saw that girl swimming underwater in the trailer, I was sold. This looks like a gorgeous anime! I just wish it was coming out sooner.

Nice to see it's confirmed. Probably this is my most anticipated anime of the year outside of Sailor Moon, as the combo of PA Works, Okada, AND an osananajimi voiced by none other than HanaKana is too much to pass up.

Well, I saw the first chapter of the manga (although I did not understand the words because it was in another language) and I can say that their blue eyes are no coincidence.

My favorite thing about PA Works is how they hire artists with extremely distinct styles to do the original character designs... and then completely ruin them.
I mean, aren't these supposed to be Buriki designs?

Little more than three minutes passed after they began their jubilant little swimming session that a shark shot up from the water and violently murdered the three children. The gray-haired boy in the boat jumped in to save his friends, but his frail 13 year old body served no purpose but to present the sharks with an even finer, more appetizing meal. The therapist, eyes full of compassion and understanding, tells the old woman that she understands the experience was very traumatic, and that she made up this wondrous tale of magic and adventure to delude herself into thinking that bright summer day in 1953 never happened, to escape the misplaced guilt of thinking herself responsible for the death of all her childhood friends by dreaming up the whole idea to go out sailing for an afternoon on her father's boat... but that if she continues showing such a disconnect from reality, there will be no choice but to send her back to the mental institution to which she was locked up from 1958 through 2011.

The old woman freaks out at being reminded of such terrible memories. A heartrending scream escaping from her throat, she jumps through the fourth story window of her therapist's office. The final shot of the series is of the old lady that was once a cute, innocent purple-haired girl laying dead on the sidewalk, 60 out of her 74 years on this Earth locked inside her own personal Hell. No cars slow down to help her, no passing citizen stoops down to offer comfort. The cold, bitter world she was born into remained indifferent to her suffering until the very end.

PA Works is like Kyoani tier when it comes to character designs lately (aka awful). Same looking shit or exaggerately moe-ifying it. If this doesn't scream "plz cry at these Key knockoff and throw money at it" or "Hey Anohana sold like hotcakes. Let's make our own version" then I don't know what is. But at least they'll be the shotas in drag to laugh at some point (or eyeroll depending on what side of the fence you are). Okada will make sure of that.

To be fair though, I never liked Buriki's designs. But holy hell is that p awful. Ah well, at least Uchoten Kazoku shows that PA is actually trying for once as that looks different in art style and direction to anything they've done in the past.

MM Buriki's designs are definitely a taste thing, but the designs usually shine if you look down (such as in Haganai). Sadly, PA works tends to lean towards the anorexic side of things, so...

I'm more pissed that PA designs have been looking the same (Iroha, Tari Tari, Red Data Girl and to a lesser extent even Another), but in this case, it just looks like a Key or Kyoani knockoff. Designed as middle school kids to evoke bawfest. Explicit pandering in other words.
