First episode was good, everything from the LN was adaptated, I'm not expecting this as much as I was with first season but well, I will still watch it. Seems like they have the money to make it a good show though seeing the graphisms.

It is just my imagination, or is Kirito's VA the same as Sora's from NGNL?

I read about SAO II being 2 cour... but is it for sure both cours in one go, or could it become a split cour season?

At this point, I don't think there has been any confirmation, but sequels tend to (but don't always) follow the pattern of their first season. So my guess would be that it will be one two-cour season, like the first.

Comparing Gun Gale Online to real-life FPS regarding possible inspiration:

Seems like a combination of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Borderlands, namely the weapons from CoD with a setting similar to Borderlands. The role of energy and conventional weapons might be loosely based on that in Halo, but reversed. Whereas in Halo energy weapons are MORE effective against shields, in GGO, they seem to be LESS effective, even regarded as practically useless in PvP by hardcore players. The whole thing about energy weapons being more effective against AI-controlled enemies seems to be unique to GGO, as there are few modern examples of MMO FPS which feature AI-controlled enemies and human adversaries in the same mode.

Something I noticed from this episode, unlike most modern FPS (Call of Duty, Battlefield), GGO does not have visible blood, in spite of having loss of limbs, as displayed by Sinon in her fight with Behemoth. I wonder if the same plague of censorship that has struck Germany and Australia has reached Japan by the 2020s? That said, maybe it has some kind of option to turn blood and gore on and off, and Sinon simply does not have the stomach to do so.

When looking for what could be the inspiration so should you remember that the original novel were written a decade back. Personally so do I think that there is no specific game as inspiration. It seems more like a "what if" thought of what would happen if someone made FPS variant out of the original (SAO) MMORPG.

It's a reference to a scene from Neon Genesis Evangelion, an awkward silence in an elevator between Rei and Asuka. Kirito's in Rei's position, and Sinon's in Asuka's.

Now the only thing they need to do is make the scene last at least minute to really capture how awkward it was in Evangelion.

Wait what

While its been years since I've played the game, this is most intriguing...
