cute anko episode ^^
ah shiori @ tamako san still cute especially wearing that cooking garb...with flour on their nose ok kanna too , they're all cute >.< and Shiori helping out in the store is nice hmm felt strange seeing midori in that Float fixing scene, maybe because it was rare seeing her (& kanna) in the shopping district side. but of course both of them are also from the area so it should be normal. speaking of Kanna... ahah mochi wont work? lets use saba! cooking inside a room >.< loved the smoking out scene , aha, lol In the end they got me too , ... also thought it was the black haired kid... PS.. so tamako is also an airhead...with regards to love at least... PPS.. almost forgot buried under all that cuteness, isn't this the first time they showed Anko & Tamako's mom? too bad it was always her back showing... wonder if they develop a plot with her & the kids back-story later on.

*cute Anko flashback dream* Awww... *cut to obese Dera sleeping* GAAAAHH!!
Anko's determination to be called An, while still calling herself Anko in third person, is adorable. As is... well... everything about her, really. That's a good way to describe this episode, really. Adorable. I was both surprised and please to see Shiori show up to help in the mochi shop. The decision to use Dera as the golden bird thing for the shrine was amusing. Running away and hiding in the closet isn't likely to improve your image with him, Anko... Beach episode next time, maybe? Swimming at least. Quote:
Dera! Develop some self-control, for crying out loud. You can barely even walk now, let alone fly. How are you expecting to do your job? I'm pretty sure you're way overdue already, and at this rate you're going to die as a blob of fat in Japan without ever finding a bride for your prince. Stop eating every bit of mochi you're offered, and start exercising.

I honestly want to dislike this show for being pretty much the same old KyoAni fodder, yet, I cannot.
Each time I think "this is the end of the road for me", the show (and right now, Anko)'s cuteness draws me right back in. And when we have Dera causing 'trouble' once again, I realize that I've managed to sit through another episode again. It was obvious right away that Anko had a crush on her classmate. I could have seen coming that it would be glasses boy, and not the other more sporty type. I liked how they tried getting her out of her closet. And I guess Mochizou will have to take the first step, because Tamako is too dense to understand what love even is, even if it's starring her right in the face. Still, I think he'll get his chance eventually, though probably not before both fathers have settled their little feud.

There is one thing I can say about the animation quality here.
It's a bit better than K-on. Still looking for sightings of possible cameo's like in episode 3, there is a girl that look exactly like Mio.

I continue to find the use of music in this show odd, but sort of appealing. I can't quite pinpoint what it is exactly, but moments like the musical scene in ep 2 with Midori, the mood of the piece used for the scene in ep 3 with Shiori and the mirror (and it was used again this episode when Anko went into the closet), or in this episode Tamako singing that plot-related song being overlay over the theme melody being whistled and ending the cut in a lingering way. Another part in this episode is the lounge-type music playing when Anko is helping the florist dress a kid, which has its volume turned up for the first festival cut, connecting it to the previous scene, which is clever as it creates a continuity of the two parts as if they pertained to the same thing, which is Anko being delayed and eventually not going to the museum. The pieces themselves are quite interesting too, I would say.
Now that I think about it, not just the music direction but a lot of the composition and direction in Tamako Market seems quirky and off-beat compared to the much more wholesome and uniform K-On. I think it stems from the livelier setting and varied cast, and the fact that it is an original anime, giving the director (and enshutsu) more creative freedom regarding the tone and presentation of the material. I can't say I dislike it, it gives the show a kind of unique freshness for its genre that I appreciate. |

Seriously. This boy looks goddamn awful. I'm totally not feeling him.
This episode was more interesting than I expected. This series could go places with the Anko/Tamako dynamic (Tamako is head over heels in mochi business while Anko doesn't particularly care etc.). Of course, it could just be that Anko is going through a "phase" and she will soon understand the importance of tradition and the collective...

But why would that make you think he is a transvestite when you could just as easily settle for trap?
