The German team doesn't really have a single player that stood out that much compare to others. Outside of a few players, most of the team played well. Schweinsteiger gets a lot of spotlight in the finals because of all the beating he received from the opponent (though he actually did pretty alright during the match as well)

To have a top team, you need top players. The best part about them is they don't have that 'individual' guy. They have a whole team of them that just play really well + unity.

also, their midfield is best.

Germany's midfield had epic fails in the (early part of the) first half though.

For sure. But they were the most consistent overall.

Funny stat, Manuel Neuer has completed two more passes at this World Cup than Messi. 244 vs. 242.

Although it has to be said, that this midfield was a mess. Shortly before tip-off Khedira gets injured, 20 minutes into the game Kramer is concussed before finally subbed out 10 minutes later, completely overturning the tactical makeup of the squad.

Jerome Boateng was immense in the final. Some of his stops, especially on Messi were textbook.

Still feel Rodriguez deserved the 'Golden Ball'.

For me the player who deserved the Golden Ball is Thomas Müller.

He might not be as flashy as other forwards but the way he plays, moves without ball and cooperates with the offensive maneuvers are simply too good. I think he's the embodiment of everything that a football coach could ever ask for in a forward.

I'd give it to James. He's the player who impressed me most from an _individual_ point of view.

What I love about our German team the most is the relative _lack_ of individualism. This team became world champion _without_ one leading figure. Still created from individual strengths, but with an emphasis of tossing it all together for the TEAM rather than creating personalized glory.

So, in this aspect, I'm almost grateful that only Neuer won the Golden Glove.

PS: Did you guys hear about the famous Muller interview about not defending the Golden Boot? ... still laughing about this one.

I feel Mascherano has been immense this world cup, although a DM won't win a golden ball. James was spectacular in the way he found space.

Germany was the best team in terms of quality and depth. I feel they earned the world cup despite Löw, which makes it even more impressive for me.

This video cut off the important second part

Essentially, what Müller said roughly translates to "I don't care about this Golden Boot bullsh*t, we're world cup champions. You can stick it where the sun don't shine!" ... and when the interviewer asked Schweinsteiger to translate it, he went with "You look very lovely, and we're very happy to be world cup champions".

The butthurt is strong on that(Muller) one.

Well, I think the one who deserves the boot always is the one who shines with "magic" during their play.

That's why James' goal was described as beautiful in various sites.

Individual awards really doesn't matter to the world cup winners, I can sympathized with the snarky answer from Muller after winning the cup (beside, he already won a Golden Boot before and at a age of 20).

As for the Golden Ball itself, there's tons of candidate for it this tournament and it should just go to individuals with overall best performance and not just those with flashy play. Otherwise, defenders and defensive midfield won't have a chance at winning.

Not exactly. Müller's said even before the final that he didn't care about the Golden Boot since he already has one at home.

He could have used those words then rather than the ones he actually used lol.

Mentar's translation doesn't really do Müller justice, it was done very jokingly and not harsh or butthurt.

That tells you again and again how FIFA is in serious need of implementing a protocol for dealing with head contacts and concussions. It's mind-boggling that all the studies on concussions in sports are there to be read and re-read again, but nothing's done in football.
