i'm looking for an anime with a main female character who is mysterious, possibly strange & creepy, intimidating & intelligent, & just has you wanting to you "you go girl" at the screen, but is also somewhat elegant.

sorry if this is a confusing request, but here are some examples of what i'm looking for:

someone like enma ai from jigoku shoujo
someone like aono from sola
someone like rukia from bleach
or someone like shana from shakugan no shana

those are the only ones i can think of right now, but they are all female protagonists who are mysterious & intelligent, don't put up with people's cr@p, & have mysterious background stories.

my preferred genres are romance & psychological thrillers & i have trouble getting into shows of other genres, but if there's a fantasy or sci-fi one that totally fills my request please suggest it!

I think Fate/stay Night's Saber and Full Metal Panic's Kaname fit your description well. They're both smart and strong willed, but still have an strong air of feminine beauty and elegance.

You could also say Hagino from the recent Blue Drop: Tenshi-tachi no Gikyoku is turning out to fit the type too.

Bee Train is a studio which "specialises" in mysterious, strong female protagonsts, so you might want to check out Noir or Madlax.

If you don't mind living magical dolls, Rozen Maiden's female cast fits the requirement nicely, they very elegant and powerful, with somewhat unclear past.

anyways Heres to add to the list for the person who made the request

Revy - Black Lagoon
Jo - Burst angel (bakuretsu tenchi)

both are the main characters

(im getting my hands on a digital version the black lagoon manga btw ^^ im so happy ! XD!) im thinking of saving up to buy an artbook too and maby a real life version of the manga ^^)

What, no one has mentioned Major Motoko Kusanagi from GITS yet? Surely one of the original kick-ass female anime characters. She might not be "creepy" but she is certainly strong, intellegent and intimidating (when she wants to be). I know I'd be intimidated by a woman who could rip the hatch off a tank.

Yea i was guna mention Motoko ..but since she didnt really fill the creepy/mysterious part i decided not to. But i hear where your coming from. She still rocks

I'd agree on Noir and Ghost in the Shell.
You might like Vandread and Saber Marionette J too, though the females aren't protagonists in those series. Avenger also fits your description perfectly, but personally I found it terribly boring.

Another vote for Yuuko from xxxHolic cited by Diodati above.

"a main female character who is mysterious, possibly strange & creepy" - She's a powerful witch with a strong taste for the exotic and mysterious.

"intimidating & intelligent" - definitely both of these

"has you wanting to go 'you go girl' at the screen, but is also somewhat elegant" - Yuuko's too elegant for me to be yelling "you go girl."
She has one of the top wardrobe designers in all of anime (it's from CLAMP, after all) along with the looks and carriage required to show off her wardrobe to the fullest.

My nominee for someone deserving of a "you go, girl" is Matsukata Hiroko in Hataraki Man, but she doesn't fit your other criteria.

hmmmmmm tha xxxholic person is just a freak nothing more :/ (in my eyes that is)

tbh i dint like xxxholic at all n ditched it afther the ep with tha girl who kept making up lies about being married n stuff with tha black stuff coming out of her finger

(but thats al just my opinion ofc ^^)

rozen maiden looks cute, & i'll probably watch that one if xxxholic turns out to be too creepy.

i don't like watching more than one short series at a time though, so these will keep me busy for quite a while

xxxholics main char isnt "just" freaky

shes SUGOKU KOWAI!!!! the way she moves the way she speaks, the way she looks out of her eyes :S i never wanna see her again xD ! anyways thats my personal opinion : p im sure ul like the series
