Shin Mazinger Shougeki! Z-Hen

真マジンガー 衝撃!Z編
True Mazinger Impact! Z-Volume

26 episodes
Starting April 2009

After seeing rumours of a Z Mazinger for the better part of a year, we finally got some solid info on the new Mazinger anime. Seems it'll be a remake of the original manga by Go Nagai, sticking closer to the source material than the original 1972 anime. edit: Not a remake!

The series is being produced by Bee Media -- which has produced the Mazinkaiser and New Getter Robo OVAs among others -- along with CODE.

Director: Yasuhiro Imagawa
Screenplay: Yasuhiro Imagawa
Music: Akira Miyagawa
Original creator: Go Nagai
Character Design: Shinji Takeuchi
Mechanical design: Tsuyoshi Nonaka

Ayumi Fujimura as Shirō Kabuto
Kenji Akabane as Kōji Kabuto
Yasuaki Suzuki as Jūzō Kabuto
Atsushi Imaruoka as Ankokuji Keiji
Hiroshi Naka as Sennosuke Yumi
Kaori Yamagata as Baron Ashura (Female)
Kazuhiko Kishino as Dr. Hell
Masayuki Katou as An
Minoru Inaba as Count Brocken
Miyuki Ichijou as Tsubasa Nishokiori
Seiko Tomoe as Kikonosuke
Tesshô Genda as Cross, Narration
Youko Honda as Sayaka Yumi

We had Koutestushin Jeeg, Reideen and Dancougar Nova not long ago, and now the "original" mecha series is reborn. Hopefully it turns out well. Also, does the "Z-Hen" suggest that there is more to come past these 26 episodes?

All mecha fans must watch this, if not they're not true mecha fans.

Mazinger Z is the grandfather of the mecha genre, the first true mecha with a pilot in a robot, it created the mecha genre.

For 'Z-hen' seems to imply a 'Great-hen'.

A remake of the original? Oh man that would be amazing as I have never watched Mazinger Z.

Hopefully Aniki is going to sing the OP for this Mazinger again, he was totally amazing when I saw him live last year during Singapore's Anime Festival Asia.

Hmmm, the seiyuu list doesn't seem to have Boss. Boss cannot be missing from the show lol

Nah, there's no need to prepare anything for this series. It is remade so everyone can just watch it. Its a retelling of the beginning of all mecha and even closer to its original story.

It will be great for a mecha fan to see where all the rocket punches, beams, thruster backpacks, wings for upgrades, breast missiles etc. comes from.

There are Great Mazinger and Grendizer, both are quite old also. And there are some recent OVA for Mazinkaiser.

What do you mean again? It is a remake of the show that came out almost 30years ago and there hasn't been any Mazinger anime in years aside from Mazinkaiser. And on the question is this show popular, yes this show is popular and incredibly famous. Even my parents who are in their fifties know about this show. Mazinger is the grandfather of mecha anime like C.A said and it is a part of anime history that will be remembered for years to come. Also I don't know why you would pass it when you don't know anything about this show.

Well, the most important thing Mazinger did was saving the anime industry back in the late 70's.

The anime industry was not doing very well and needed new ideas. So Go Nagai threw in Mazinger Z and immediately brought in a revolution in anime. Mazinger Z as a robot with a pilot, was a completely new and fresh idea and it captured the imaginations of audience. You don't need super human powers to be a hero, but you can pilot a super robot to be a super hero.

Thus the mecha genre was created and immediately spawned a whole slew of mecha anime which densely populated the tv time slots and brought the anime industry back to its feet. The 80's was the golden age of anime, ruled by mecha anime. Its the age where it has the most super robots, Gundam, Macross and other famous oldies.

Mazinger Z himself was not just a fictional savior of Earth but saved the anime industry itself.

Despite hating to see the continuing appearance of Mazinger Z in SRW, I still think I should give this show a chance, because hating the show just because of the game is unreasonable.

What I'm worrying about is instead of seeing Mazinger Z in the cast list of the several next SRW titles, we'll have "Shin Mazinger Shougeki! Z-Hen". Unless there are something different about them.

The the majority of SRW I've loved the Mazinger units though, great tanks and damaging attacks. I was hooked to Mazinger ever since Mazinkaiser of F Final.

Of course, he's quite useful so I didn't let him warm my bench in any SRW games (even in SRW Z, since he can lead his group with the other two close friends of him), but I'm just tired of seeing him in almost every game.

I don't mind Mazinkaiser, though. Haven't seen him for a while.

I think I heard about it being popular in Mexico which is pretty amazing about famous this anime was. I think it was popular in some European country as well. Oh and in Flushing, Queens I saw restaurant that was named after it!

In my first SRW (it was SRW 4 and he tend to get blown up frequently, that game was feing hard! ) I wasn't really impressed by Mazinger first. Truth to be told I basically never used him in the latter stage. But man after I used him properly he as pretty much a beast.

I really wish they wouldn't have done this. Kotetsushin Jeeg was already at an embarassing level, and maybe Dynamic Planning should stop recycling the same concepts over and over (that applies to Go Nagai as well).

Mecha anime can take remakes of all sorts because of one single thing: The SRW series.

There are a whole bunch of unknown mecha, people never even heard about them, but then SRW brought them in. The next thing they're selling models for those series and sold well.

Why are Mazinger Z, Getter Robo, Combattler V etc still selling over the past 30 years?
Why was there 2 new Genesic Gaogaigar Gokins in the past 4 years?
Why did Black Sarena only get a model after 5 years?
Why did Aquarion Chogokin get a rerelease?

It goes on, all because of SRW.
