Ok to me even for Shaft this show is just plain boring and unfunny. And the faceless person is that suppose to be funny? Tis awful and his personality and attitude is awful too. Well this is a strike against Shaft in my opinion.

Normally I'm like it's Shaft I got to watch it.. but this one is boring and unfunny both.

This show has totally grown on me. I was lukewarm for eps 1 and 2, but from then on it has been great. It has a feeling of its own. And plenty of lovely Shaftiness. And despite being a bit undecided about Asumi Kana's voice as Sasami, I'm finding myself really affected by the character.

But the thing I liked best about ep5 was actually Hanazawa Kana's voice as Kagami. This voice is my favorite of hers since her early super-moe voices in Zegapain and Mushi-uta. It's like the mature and confident version of those, in fact.

He is on his late thirties.

This isn't a harem. It is a rom-com. Read the synopsis before judging it is a harem.

Just on another matter... I sort of enjoy a show like this where deities are not out to kill us or in some ways don't care about humans.

I don't follow a religion, but I am open minded. Yet it is sometimes easy to imagine the world is filled with hostile beings out to get us. The Sasami world might have disasters once in a while, but there are people who are always out to take care of the little people. Even if the best they could do is to leave us to our own devices.

Okay, this episode has gone nuts again.

We don't even know how much of this episode is even real.

The mother is most strange... I thought she was a nice person for long enough to be fooled and surprised when she showed her true colours. But still, we don't know if any of this episode actually happened the way we saw it.

Sasami-san@Ganbaranai 06 - Ghost Mom?

JESUS. What started off as a pretty lighthearted episode, all things considered (though that opening monologue did have that hint of the melancholic that runs through many a Shaft works), that... twist. Mostly the visuals. A reverse Jacob Marley out of nowhere. I actually freaked out a little bit when that happened. The confrontation at the end between the sisters and Sasami's mom was also pretty intense, and it looks like her mom may have won for now. It's clear Sasami at some level caused this transformation, but then what about the streetlights thing that supposedly started this off? I expect some or most of these will be answered next week, but wow. Took a turn for the horror all of a sudden.

The bit about the mum looking like a ghoul is mythologically Shinto canon. Essentially that's what dead people looks like in the Underworld, even dead gods. It's brought up in Shinto's version of "trying to bring one's wife back from the dead" tale that exists globally in many mythologies.

I knew about that from Persona 4 (don't laugh) but the real appearance of Sasami's mom still took me by surprise. It was pretty horrifying.

Poor Sasami. She was so happy to reunite with her mom, only to find out she cares more about duty than her daugher's happiness. I was hoping the Yagami sisters would help her, but my hopes were swiftly crushed. That was a one-sided and brutal beat-down. Kagami!! ;_; (I know she's fine, but damn...)

Kagami at the vet was the best scene of the episode. First time we saw her so happy.

So much HNNNGGG when Kagami was fawning over her Niku-chan.

I cringed inside when that sword....ugh, it hurt

There is still a very real possibility that none of what we saw was real.

To be honest, I don't like it when a story pulls the "it's all an illusion" trick on me. It's cheap, especially if it is done for an entire episode. But that seems to be what is happening here.

I just don't see Sasami's mum being able to do any of what she did, unless Susanoo practically let her borrow his powers from the land of the dead. It is much more likely this was an elaborate illusion. Still, I am sad to see that the mum is just as mean as the dad. It makes sense; far too many victimised women decided it is only fair that the next generation suffer like they did.

Given what she said, it sounds like he DID let her borrow his powers. This whole situation was an elaborate attempt to attack Amaterasu. Sasami's mother was just a convenient tool to that end.

OK, here's what I don't get:
1. Tsurugi IS Amaterasu, and gave her power to Sasami.
2. Susanoo is in Yomi, and have his powers to Sasami's mom.
3. Sasami's last name is Tsukuyomi. So where the hell IS Tsukuyomi?

Amaterasu didn't take physical form for a long time. In general it seems most gods just "exist" and do not much else. So it is likely Tsukuyomi just stayed as a metaphorical concept right now.

Maybe Tsukuyomi is going to take on physical form and help save Tsurugi from Yomi. Maybe.

I remember reading that the Sun and the Moon don't get along in Shinto. The god of food got killed and that's why the Sun is not on speaking terms with the Moon, thus creating the day-night cycle.

Though like most myths, there is an alternate story, making Sussano the villain instead.

I could still see Tsukuyomi helping Tsurugi. Amaterasu was the one who hated Tsukuyomi's guts, not the other way around. It's possible he's still in love with her.

There is what Sasami's mother said after sending Tsugiri to Yomi to take into account though. When she stated it was time to hand over the world to the moon, was it a play on her last name or was she actually referring to Tsukuyomi? Why is Sasami's family even named Tsukuyomi in the first place?

This story doesn't have to strictly stick to the myths anyway. Anything is possible.

Even if that doesn't happen, how this battle/spout/mini-arc plays out will be very interesting to see.(Though it'll be nice to see Tsukuyomi in a human/anime/otherworldly beast/Cthulu-like form)

She doesn't want to use it, for starters. And the shock of being betrayed by her mother was also a factor.
