Wow. Haven't posted on this forum in AGES.
I noticed the sudden interest in this series - 3 or 4 new episodes appearing in the last few days. Well, I thinks to myself - Susan Boyle? Turns out there's a LOT of interest on Les Miserables - mainly to do with the musical - on YouTube. Lots of music videos, and a lot of these use clips from the anime. Even snippets of fansubs - some from the Barricade episodes. If you've been wondering what the grown-up Cossette looks like, there's quite a bit of her there, too. Favorite clip so far (for the music: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ycGCqHQSBqI Well, here's something I posted on some mailing lists I am on some days back, no need to retype it all: --- Les Miserables/ Shoujo Cossette/ Jean Valjean Monogatari Heh heh heh.. People were fansubbing this - maybe 2 or 3 groups - and then the effort petered off a year ago. Nothing. Then in the last couple days, two episodes pop up on animesuki, probably more to follow in a few days. I know exactly WHAT triggered off this sudden interest. No, I don't watch the show (can't STAND reality shows), but there was an article in the Sunday paper. Apparently the papparazzi have been harassing the poor lady. I must admit, this is the second time I've seen whatsisname completely flummoxed (there was Paul Potts, last year). See: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9lp0IWv8QZY (Her low notes need work, though.. a little flat in the later part.. and she left out a verse.. ^_^; I must admit.. youtube's like Wikipedia.. you can get lost in there following "related videos". I spent the last couple nights (before late bedtime) watching all of the Les Miserables clips. I've been quite partial to the show ever since I caught a performance nine years ago. And I posted something very long about the book some months back. Best (English) version of the song in my op on Youtube was Lea Salonga. But her earlier Eponine was better. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gNojZg_mrTg There's a HUGE Les Miserables fanbase on Youtube - music videos up the wazoo, and a lot of them were made using clips from the anime. THE absolute treat was finding French versions. My favorite Fantine: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dP7qMSfAot0 And another one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lCLbbm0ZG7E Interesting that the lyrics are different. The first one was the 1990 Paris production, based on the English version (French Canadian actress Louise Pitre). The second one was the older, original French version from 1980. Other treats: Cossette: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PeEqc4TYJ4w Mistress Toad: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zUtZAthRbRA Gavroche: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7EEY-ji0_vk (note the Korean subtitles!) Another one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xAiny0D59-g Eponine: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cuS1cCnG8xc Gavroche was my absolute favorite character in the book. The song fits exactly. This one's very interesting. There's a Japanese one in there somewhere... makes you want to get up and march around the room! ^_^;; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KPpkTgMbhRU Don't watch this without a hanky: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HzCSb6OnkZA This same part in the book was just as good.. or bad, depending on your point of view. Episode 12 is out! It's amazing how it took several MONTHS for the other quitters to get just one episode out, but these new guys got from 8 to 12 in barely more than a week! Episode 11 was pretty grim and depressing, and I was scared that the subbing might stop there, and then episode 12 came out, and the ending of the episode, just like the new subbers, made me feel so relieved and hopeful! And once again, I would like to really really thank the new subbers for giving us new hope and doing a great job subbing these last few eps!

You're welcome. We're not new, btw. Quite the ancient fansubber here.
Anyway, I was a little disappointed at how this series ended up being neglected by the fansub community. While there are ten or so groups all over other more popular series. Waste of resources, maybe? Rest assured, there are no plans to quit mid-series. We plan to have it all subbed and released by the end of Summer. On that note, if anyone wants to help us sub this awesome series, please contact me. Can really use the help. |
