i hope so.. 2009 is too far away.. bah.. though my guess it will probably be early 2009, or late 2008. look at haruhi s2, its been god knows how long and a date hasnt been announced yet.

There is no need to "hope" about it: it has been officially announced it will be broadcasted this year 2008, until they officially announce a postponed date (which is quite rare in anime industry).

Maybe....and I think I know what they will airing in the 3rd season.
I think other people would know too if they had read the Higurashi Manga.

What are you thinking; that they'll be adapting Onisarashi-hen and/or Yoigoshi-hen? I think that both of these seem possible once they're done with Saikoroshi-hen, though doing so would have the disadvantage that they'd feel rather disjointed (though admittedly not as disjointed as the pieces at the start of Matsuribayashi-hen) and the fact that the main cast of the series is mostly absent.

Yes I was thinking of both of those along with Utsutsukowashi-hen ( even though that might not be in the third season) and yeah it would be kinda disjointed. Even though we're not sure whats going in the 3rd season, I just wonder what the name of it will be. Like will it be Higurashi no naku koro ni Rei,or Matsuri, etc.

It would be logic to use higurashi no naku koro niRei if they adapt saikoroshi-hen, or higurashi no naku koro ni Matsuri If they adapt miyotsukushi-hen.

There's no reason they can't adapt both. Saikoroshi-hen is fairly short.

But Miotsukushi-hen is really really really long. It took me about 15 and half hours to read it in it's entirely.

That's true it was long and Saikoroshi-hen was short.
Guess we'll have to wait until the name is given completely.

The name will probably tell a lot, but even then it'll probably only be named after one arc since they usually adapt several arcs into a season, if it's going to be a full 24/6.

From what people have written here ( since I haven't played the games) there is an arch happening right after the finale to S2, and then another one. If you include a filler arch (if they added one to 2 then why not 3?) and then maybe that origin story, that's 4 arcs, that's a whole season right there.

With arcs getting longer (I don't know if it's just Festival Accompanying in particular that is so long) even 2-3 arcs adequately spaced out could fill a season.
