http://forums.animesuki.com/showthread.php?t=77082 Use the provided gradient pic on the first post as your graphic base (save it first then open it in Photoshop). When using brushes, don't let the brushes go beyond both ends of the base graphic.

Hmm~ I got bored and decided to edit mine again this will be my final product.
It's not the best, but it's made so I may as well try. Oh and the three characters are Honda Tohru, Uotani Arisa, and Hanajima Saki from Fruits Basket. Last edited by Acrophobiac; 2009-02-05 at 18:00. Reason: Forgot to say which characters they were. |

Acrophobiac : Well the only problem that i have with your banner it's that's the character seems to be apart from your BG :/

The only things bugging me are the brushes at the edges. I mean the brushes greyed out due to usage of plastic wrap filter, to be exact. But that may be just my personal taste. Do what you think is best.

Interesting, so many banners seem to be striving for a monochromatic look. We can use all kinds of colors as long as the blue gradient remains. For me, I'm going for a complementary look between blues and oranges. I also worked on the text in Illustrator to give it a logo look, and for the sake of taking more care in the type treatment.
Let me know what you think. These are probably 2 of my 3 finals.

I like this one. It shows the theme nicely through the banner which is what counts. Good job.
That's just pretty. That's just so cute. Sorry I'm not in the criticizing mood since there are so many good banners~! +1 to all.

Lastly, all three have beveling or something going on with the text. Really, you DON'T want to do much more then an Outer Glow or Drop Shadow for effects on text. Gradients and strokes can work, sometimes, but you need to be careful. Beveling on text almost always looks bad, and screams out "amateur". Please don't take offense to that, because someone telling me that was how I stopped doing it myself. The other general rule with typography as a whole is to avoid decorative or fancy fonts altogether, but hey, this is anime we're talking about. But for serious design, stay way from the fonts you see in a lot of these banners (including mine).
