Rietie (VOLTS)

^^
Most anime have a character with two sides, with two personalities trapped in one person. In Getbackers, that is Amano Ginji. Ginji has an odd ability to generate electricity from his own body -a human pikachu- if an analogy must be used. He is a kind, loving, compassionate person, always making sure that his friends are safe and that even his enemies should be given a chance to survive.
But before he was known as the Thunder Emperor, the leader of a gang called the Volts, that ruled the inner city of Infinite Castle. Ruthless was he, fightfully powerful, but still retaining the need to protect his friends. Ginji could not suppress his powers when he became "Thunder Emperor Mode" and left Infinite Castle, taking a part in the outside world, for the sake of his friend's. The Volts quickly dissolved after Ginji's leave. He met up with Midou Ban, and formed a retrieval team called the "Get Backers", promising to "get back" lost goods or items, boasting a 100% success rate. |

Are you schizophrenic? I've never seen two posts (in a row yet) that had such totally different personalities. I suppose those are your two sides.

Of course it was also the reason that he had to leave Mugenjou. The Infinite Fortress was the place where he was capable of making the greatest difference and doing the most good. As much as he did help people as a retrieval specialist, he saved many many lives in Mugenjou. It was a waste for him to leave and he never would have done so, if he hadn't had to flee his other half.

This is a funny anime. The animation is nothing special and the sound is ok but the characters definatly have that 'cool factor' to them which is so important. Akabane is easily the best character and to top it of he's got that whole placid phyco thing going on, love that guy. Chiibi Ginji is so cute and funny that Ginji rises from being a somewhat cheesy character into an adoring little felow. Then to contrast this he's got a deadly raite side to him, in which he resembles Gohan SS2!
Ban while incredibly cool at first never really shows any weakness and never puts a foot wrong. Nor does he ever get beaten throughout the anime. Eventually everyone was calling him a genius and he himself started to get cocky. Turns out rightfully so because he seems almost invinsible. I still like him and thought he was cool but maybe if he lost a fight things would have been less predictable with him. BUT I will always love him for his 'hit and away' move The coolest concept ever! Also for his shirt which flows nicely in battle and gives him a distinct look. The other characters were fairly average to me and Akabane, Ginjii and Ban make things intresting. Slightly dissapointed with the ending because it went beyond cheesy but Ban vs Akabane was so cool it's forgiven. A nice blend of comedy and action. Not too serious but an anime which is fun to watch in your free time. |

The anime used material from the front portion of the manga. They semi-ruined the Venus de Milo Arc (read the manga; I won't spoil the true secret of the Miroku). |

So are you saying that the manga is in a league above the anime? Wouldn't be suprised because that's usually the case. Another question: Does the manga show the fight between Ginji as Thunder Emperor agaisnt Ban in more detail? Just wondering how Midou managed to beat him.

GetBackers - Will it ever come back?
Hello,
I don't know if any of you remember Getbackers, but it was a great anime about two people with special abilities. Midou Ban and Amano Ginji. These two would embark on missions to retrieve stolen items for their clients. It was based on a manga and the anime ended in 2005 (approx). My question is, will there ever be new episodes produced for this? Has there been atleast talk or interest in making new episodes by the animation studio? |

BORING REVIEW TIME
This was so boring I yawned three times while typing this text. Get Backers is the linear tale of two cardboards with superpowers who find lost or stolen items / people for money… usually scraps. And it is also about generic battles with other cardboards with superpowers while making lame jokes in between… for 49 episodes. And if you think this is enough to keep you interested, then your bar is really, really low. The thing with shounen shows is that there are interested as long as there is something going on in the show that is worth looking forward to. In this case the core premise is revealed already from the pilot episode, and so is the extend of the main duo’s powers. There is nothing else to keep you interested. The missions are short and almost always stand alone and the superpowers don’t evolve or change or need further strategy that the first simplistic time you stare at them. One makes electricity, the other makes illusions, then they yell “sneiko baito”; that’s it, nothing beyond that. To be honest, the anime is not 49 episodes with just two dudes looking for something / someone. It is also about their daily lives in their store and a secret organization out to get them. The thing is, both these elements don’t mean much in the long run. The sinister plan of the other superpower dudes in the show is not going further that becoming the strongest and ruling the world. And their daily lives are just boring silly events with platonic relationships and goofing around aimlessly. Nothing to keep you interested for long. This is what made Naruto so interesting in its early stages you know. It had a huge number of characters, each with a superpower and not entirely identified by it. The world was a big place full of different organizations, different goals, different secrets and different demeanors. It was practically a huge collection of shounen stereotypes and stories, all in one, making it harder to get bored right away. It also got lame when it ceased being all that and, just like Get Backers, ended up being a bunch of cardboards with superpowers having generic battles with other cardboards with superpowers while making lame jokes in between… for 500 episodes. Anyways, Get Backers went under a lot faster than that, as the fillers and the boring stories and the un-evolving characters made their presence quite soon. To be honest, there is a part where the story gets good and it’s when the duo storms the headquarters of the secret organization. Lots of intense fighting and machoness there, almost non-stop. The thing is, the whole deal ended up being a bunch of villains standing in a line and patiently waiting for the heroes to come pick them out one by one in their own turf, while the last boss was some sort of computer of mass destruction. Nothing really wowing here but the constant battles were worthwhile. Yet, that was actually the ending of the first half of the series. The second half returned to the lame stand alone adventures of finding something / someone, which after such an epic struggle now felt not just boring but unbearable. Don’t you just hate it when the heroes save the world and just return back to their cranny little business like nothing much happened? One would expect for the second half to end in a similar or even more epic way but naaaah, it was tad boring and even open ended. A completely disappointing conclusion for anyone having the patience to follow the show all the way to the end and expecting a redeeming finale. Visuals and soundtracks aren’t helping either as they are both quite low-budgeted and average, becoming forgettable right away as well. The characters all have generic looks besides generic personalities and simplistic powers, the animation and the battles are stingy on motion and vividness, the dialogues are retarded shounen “I describe anything I do in the middle of the battle”, the music score is passable pop songs and generally everything screams mediocrity… in a very generic tone. The only things I remember after all these years I originally watched it was the overused scream of “sneiko baito” and some tower full of Naruto look-alikes. Not the best thing to say about any show that aims to be more than boring and forgettable. I do not recommend it and propose One Piece or even Fairy Tail as better alternatives. Not Naruto; it also GetBackered after the fillers kicked in. OVERALL SCORE: 3/10 |

I finished reading the manga and it was awesome. The final arc had awesome fights although some felt anticlimatic. Some twists were pretty good. However, one revelation was so shortlived that it felt like an attempt to avoid a pairing or giving more variation to the relationships.
When I think about it Kazuki was Aoki's greatest idea. A badass super androgynous fighter able to attract both male and female fans. His relationship with Juubei is really close to a real couple sometimes. |
