The bandai channel does not work for anyone living outside Japan.

Anyways here's a link for the 7 min video for those using Nico.

It will be subbed and upload on Youtube soon enough.

Meanwhile allow me to give a brife summary and comparsion to the novel. The animated version shorten the Laplace Incident to the first minutes and we didn't get a glimsp into Siam's background and his rise to powers like it does in the novel.

Nor did we see his illusion into the future of Operation British in the aftermath of the Inicident with the Zakus and Colony drop. The viewers are transported into the far future and see an old Siam in bed with nothing to indicate the cryosleep he is experiencing. Amazing how they took an hour's worth of text and condense it into a 3-minute animation.

Next up, we are introduce to the fast paced battle between the Jegans and Kshatriya. It's a loyal retelling of the passage in the book here and nothing worth menioning now.

That's usually a trend among books-to-movie transitions.

Wow, the manga chapter we released is the SAME THING. Imagine that.

So why do people fight, anyway?
Perhaps the meaning of existence lies within their will to fight.
People feel a sense of accomplishment through battle.
And it’s also a fact that the ones actually fighting are never perceived as being tainted.

No pretty animation though...

It does make you wonder when the manga is supposed to diverge from the anime/novel... Though I guess there is plenty of it left.

I want them to fill in the gaps in regards to Siam's past and his expoilts during the early years of the UC era later during the series.

Just seeing him jumping straight as a young terrorist responsible for the Laplace Incident to being an old power broker supposedly dying in bed will not make much sense to those unfamiliar with the novels

Judge for yourself. This was taken circa '96-'97 when she was about 11-12 years of age. The anti-child pornography laws only came into effect in the 00's. Before that, child nudity was perfectly legal in Japan.

But enough about Kuriyama and this will be my last post about her before everything gets derailed here.
Oh okay. THAT pic! Saw it a long time ago. I guess it'd depend on the context, but anyways, back to the topic.

One thing I'm confused about is the Blu-ray release. I work at an entertainment store and it's not even listed as one of our upcoming releases. Is it just an Amazon exclusive or will it be in general video entertainment stores too?

Not really, especially since the scene is so early in the OVA. I am unfamiliar with the novels but just from the first 7 minutes I can get that he's characterized as "this is the old guy who knows and experienced a lot and we will found out more later, probably together with the main character". Unless they do that scene and later NOT fill in about his past, of course. But at this point that scene is not confusing.

From my understanding here, Gundam, though mainstreamed in Japan, isn't as much so in the west. So perhaps because of the series niched nature, your supplier isn't bringing it in ?

You are right. Looking deeper, this "weary veteran with a mysterious past" has been applied countlessly throughout cinematic history in order to keep the audience engaged. And obviously Sunrise is putting Siam in this classic role.

Perhaps I might have been spoiled by the source material and is demanding Sunrise to be faithful scene-byscene.

There's also the context of the medium of what it's told. An OVA episode it may be, the entire sequence of what you described ultimately still needed somewhere between 10-15 minutes if we're to make sense of the Laplace Incident, dreams that chronologically show Siam's rise to power, and his talk with that person who can be the only one to forgive him.

A 15 minutes wall-of-text-and-dreams prologue would be needlessly weary. Besides, since you mentioned that the only thing missing was his personal story, it could always be narrated/mentioned somewhere else in the show by someone in a more compact manner if needs arise how-and-why he became what he was.

The music is top class. Just like the animation. I really feel it'll be a really good series.

Wow the first 7 minutes of Gundam Unicorn are really good! It was pretty intense!
Too bad the opening is so inaudible . When I see the title "GUNDAM UNICORN" with the background music, it was incredible! The soundtrack seems really good!

As high as my expectations for this are the sneak preview makes it look as if they are going to be readily met. Those 8 minutes felt more like a couple as they went by and the way it cut out right in the middle of the fire fight was kind of cold, but I'd be lying if I said it wasn't the perfect point if you want to leave people clamoring for more.

Those first seven minutes were awesome, can only imagine what the final Blu-ray version will feel like on a big screen. Can't wait!
