Well, in that scene, you have Kuu with facial scratches (black spot on face) before kiss, Kyoshiro with purple sparkling stuff in his head area during kiss and Kuu with normal face after kiss.

yea but i think that was just to show kuu being surprised by the kiss with added special glossy effects...cmon its her first kiss i would be all genki when i get mine as well also she was shocked to learn from kaon and himiko that it was a transfer of mana in fact ~

it looks like we have 3 themes running through this ep...we have comedy from neko chan, sadness from kaon and revelation for kuu...

on the first theme we see neko chan getting used to her new owned with gags here and there...tbh i didnt expect Sojiro to e that much of a big softie...most entertaining

heres the painful part...kaon getting tortured >.< its too painful to explain but basically she is beaten to a pulp...and it doesnt end as mika wants to give her some extra pain

and then kuu...shes slowly finding out the relationship between setsuna and kyo...man do i pitty setsuna it is a one sided love that kyo isnt even noticing...even when they kiss he strictly tells kuu not to misunderstand as it is just an exchange in mana...
luckily it does seem that kuu cares about her too (also liking kyo herself i find this most pleasing to see ~)

and theres also the cutest scene ive ever seen O.o

great cliff hanger ending which is making this series grow on me...from the shaky start im enjoying this now ^__^

Anyway, i've mentioned oh so many times just how beautiful this series really is - and thats shown yet again in episode 03's bath scene. Speculation shall be posted once rewatching the episode later on. :3

This is a strong show. Ep3 had a lot going for it: animation, relationships, feelings, fanservice, character, voice-acting, stories, mysteries, hints (what color is his hair?). I could do without the violence and evil, myself, but that was also very strong.

First off, wtf is with the multiple shower scenes at the beginning? Ugh, seeing Mika in the bath was enough for my stomach to turn. (I really don't like her if it's not obvious!) Kuu is growing on me. I'll admit, I was just watching this solely for Kaon and Himiko, but she's definitely beginning to tug at my attention. The kiss between Setsuna and Kuu was adorable. Move outta the way Kyoshiro! As mentioned before, there seems to be an unrequited love between Setsuna/Kyoshiro. I felt bad for her after she worked hard on that meal, and he didn't even bother to eat any of it. You can tell her disappointment every time she sees him interacting with Kuu in a lovey dovey sort of way.

The torture scene with Kaon was intense. It looked like they were experimenting with her while torturing? I noticed Himiko and some other girl were holding some weird glowing thing towards Mika, and then afterwards a girl in a lab coat is excitedly telling her about something on a panel thing. Whats the deal with the sword though? I don't understand japanese at all, so anything they were saying was completely lost on me.

Ok, I take that back I know what "yes" is.. lol. After Mika took the sword, she asked Himiko something, and all I caught was that Himiko said "yes." to whatever she asked. There was obvious reluctance there, and Himiko appeared to be on the verge of tears. Her poor expression before that, with her eyes shut and tears in the corner of her eyes was touching. That had to be such a horrible experience for both of them to endure. Oh I loved it. Morbidly sad scenes like that make the sorrow all that more powerful. I don't think it would have held the same affect if Himiko wasn't present during the torture.

So, for anyone that's curious, a person off of the shoujo-ai forums posted this in reply to my comment on what was going on during the torture scene. He/she had translated it somewhat.

The mirror shows her mana radiant glow. Token flunky #1 says that her glow is befitting someone possessing the title of sword of god (Murakumo)

Token flunky says they'll stop for a while to wait for her to regenerate

Mika says there's no need for that, and to continue with the tuning. Himiko is surprised. Mika says that her sword would not break from merely something like this. Himiko reluctantly agrees.

Er...isn't that taking the whole "human-looking weapon" thing a little over the top? You can temper a sword but a human(oid)??? By smacking her with a big pillar? Man, the writers for this show are very uh...imaginative, aren't they.

I think she meant figuratively. Mika was looking at that sword, and comparing Kaon to it I believe. I loved that smug smirk on her face though while watching the torture. It made me want to smack it off her, which in turn is really making her an awesome bad guy to me. She's not just some annoying evil overlord that I could care less about. I'm still hoping Kaon will eventually snap and kick her ass.

There's also been some theories circulating that the reason Kaon and Himiko put up with Mika is because she possibly found them at a young age and raised them. They feel that maternal obligation towards her. They both believe that they have to obey her, although they obviously don't want to. Episode 2, Kaon just watches Himiko being taken away to be punished.

She just gets angry and frustrated, demonstrated by her bowed head and gritted teeth. Episode 3, Himiko simply stands there and watches Kaon being tortured, not doing anything against it. (not like she really could though, but still.) I personally don't know whether I agree with that theory or not yet. It would make Himiko's punishment in episode 2 even more disgusting though, since I got the impression the punishment was sexual.

Yeah, the implications of the punishment was quite disturbing. I was watching episode 2 and it all seemed quite laughable until it got to the part where Mika wanted to punish Himiko. Instantly this anime wasn't so funny anymore (heck, it made me twitch uncomfortably in my chair).
