The movie was as an absolute mess. But by god is it gorgeous. This is quite possibly the best animation I've ever seen. Sweet god is it gorgeous.

I must confess I figured out Emiya and Archer by their eyebrows. It's silly I know, but it was the first thing I noticed when I saw the game.

Haak: Hehe, maybe dread isn't the best way to approach the movie, to be honest I dreaded it as well after reading the posts here, but I watched it anyway. I am still not sure what I wish to take away from this movie...

Anyhow, I finished. I did like Rin's reaction after the mana recharge scene. And also at the very end.

Though the main problem I had was that the sudden appearing of characters. It's almost like they just come out and go "lol sup" and start the next fight. But the worst has gotta be near the end where

Honestly, I recommend everyone who likes Fate/Stay Night enough to play the game. The VN is a glorious experience.

But how does that work? Is he from the future?

Sort of from the future, in the game they explain it quite well and the movie to some degree. Archer is the heroic spirit created as the embodiment of Shirou's ideals. He is the result of Shirou's path to heroism. The only thing is Archer is quite jaded due to the things he has faced and is different from the current Shirou who hasn't become a hero just yet.

What tipped me off was the similarity in eyebrows and the fact that archer couldn't remember who he was a long with a few things he says in the game in the beginning.

But how can the embodiment of ideals of a person in the present have a past, as if, he has lived in the future.

Finally had time to sit down and watch it. Sure it had pretty horrible pacing problems, though i wasn't really expecting a good job to be done of forcing the UBW path into 1 hour and 45 minutes. Apart from that, it was highly enjoyable, what with A+ voice actor, animation that seriously blew me away during each battle scene, and a Kenji Kawai score that delivered oh so well. I'm satisfied on some levels, and that's something i could never say about the TV series.

Plus this film was worth it just to see Lancer's multiply scenes of awesomeness. There's a reason why he's my favorite male character in F/SN. :3

Finally had the time to watch the whole movie instead of just specific scenes and I thought that from about midway to the end it was pretty decent, but oh god the beginning was just a huge mess.

Some things I liked and somethings I disliked are...
Spoiler for movie:

To me it kind of seems like they started the movie in the middle and then realized that they had no more room to fit rather important things like introductions and certain key events in the beginning. Another 10-20 minutes could have made the overall flow much nicer. Even shortening some scenes like Saber vs Berserker, CG dolphin scene, and the scene black screen + red text during the duel could have made enough time to add in some better scene transitions.

Lol. Did anyone notice the "Ashes to ashes. Dust to Dust" incantation Rin used against Casters skeleton familiars at 25 mintues. That was in To Aru Majutsu no Index.

And i seriously loled at how Kuzuki didn't get a single line.

It's because of the catalyst Rin used in her summoning ritual. The jewel that she used to save Shirou, Archer had it too, Rin also stated that it was one-of-a-kind.

Most likely Archer is from a route much like Fate, probably where he was not as close to Saber.

Erm, I meant Ilya would be (as opposed to in Fate, where she dies a year later).

Well, the Ilya route was originally meant to branch off from HF (and I believe a lot of the HF plot (in particular the stuff to do with Angra Mainyu and the explanation of the true purpose of the Grail War) was originally supposed to be in there), so it wouldn't have been much like Fate.

Blargh.

It's about what i expected except there are also a lot of hammy moments aswell. And the Rin-Dolphin scene was so God damn painful it almost made me ashamed of being a Type-Moon fan.

He had one actually, when he said Caster's name before she disappeared.

Beginning was a huge pacing/transitiona mess (I expected that though), however the second half settled down and it was much better because of it. Knowing all the inbetweens of the story definitely helped me get pass a lot of the problems and just enjoy the film.

Overall I enjoyed it quite a bit, but cannot deny that the story was a convoluted mess that will irritate many many people. I guess I'm satisfied in respect to just seeing many scenes I liked animated, but the movie forces you to imagine many of the blank areas and again the only reason I enjoyed it was that I new the whole story and I'm content with imagining the rest. I'll probably purchase the movie despite all it's problems just as I did for the series.
