Yes, as mentioned before, the main guy is a loser

HWIS = Hell With Infinite Stratos. It is an anti-IS weapon designed to pierced through IS energy shield. Powerful but only had one shot though before the whole weapon system get fired by the power surge.

Chapter 0: Alien Invasion!?

Dream......
A human without a dream, is a human without hope.
A human without hope, is just a Living Corpse....
A Living Corpse living for the sake of living until he decided to go for the sweet release instead or find a new dream.
But life is harsh and cruel.
Sometimes, a dream would never come true.
A fantasy that will always remain a dream, no matter how much you try.
If that is the case and you have the choice, would you wake up to face the harsh reality or continue trying to striving for an impossible dream?

Chapter 0: Alien Invasion!?

In spite of what people always say, life is almost the same as usual even after the introduction of IS. From a purely statistic point of view, the males are not exactly discriminated as much as they wanted to believe (just compare to racist in the past, it look rather mild). It is just that the female had more advantage over males.

Not like any of that is new in the modern society for the past few years even before IS is introduced: Female get women’s right and ladies night while guys paid to get drunk and make a fool out of themselves.

But as the saying goes, power corrupt. Female now had a higher standard of choosing their mates. A standard so impossibility high that most males end up being burned by it even before they could reach anywhere close to that ‘possible candidate’ line.

Being burned by it combined with their new founded inferiority complex.....
The result is obviously not-so-good cocktail of certain doom.

With the girls setting an even higher bar than ever, some guys gave up the conquest of the opposite (and presumably better) half and decided that 2D characters are better than real girls. They indulged in a fantasy world that will never ever happen in real life.

I thought to myself as I sat alone in my desk, playing on my gaming device.
Most unfortunately, I happen to be one of them.... You see, 2d girls are much better than real girls, they don’t age, they will not beat you up with a chair if you screw up, they won’t plot (with each other) to hurt you in any way, they don’t break up with you, they don’t care about your financial status and they always listen to you without nagging, and will love you forever (and literally till death we be apart)....they are totally fabulous! There is absolutely no way can you find such a girl in real life! Did I mention that they can’t hurt you physically with a chair?

Today’s last period is a free-study session because Mr Brightworth (my geography teacher) is in a slump as he is still suffering from a mental hangover (which means he is not in the mood to teach) from yesterday after his girlfriend dumped him for not being rich enough. (Read: something that will never happen in the 2d world! 2D girls Banzai!)

Meanwhile, the rest of the class gathering around a desk.

Apparently, somebody brought a porn magazine.

But to call the magazine porn is somewhat exaggerated as it does not feature any nudity of any sort, just IS pilots in suggestive poses.... Seriously nothing really that exciting about it, unless you are an Infinite Stratos(machine) fan.
The last bell of the day chimed.

Mr Brightworth sloppily dragged himself up.

“Class....dismissed....whatever....” he mumbled under his breath.

Everybody packed their stuff and left the room.

I tried to stand up but the gangsters grabbed and restrained me as their leader throwing another punch to my guts.

Nobody told me and I end up paying the price.

How do I end up in this situation?

Funny story actually.....
You see, it all began with me trying to save a girl.

But being a non-violent guy who had no lesson in marital art, the result is painfully obvious until the girl suddenly knocked out the leader with a single punch.

It turned out that the girl happened to be very good at kung-fu...

Anyway, the whole thing ended with the girl giving me a blue-black eye for being incompetent and the gang marking me down for revenge.

‘Thank you’ stupid reality.

In game, that will definitely not happen. The guy save the girl and beat up the thugs, end of story.

The ordeal lasted for an hour, I think. (Kind of hard not to lose track of the time when you are being beaten up).

The gang finally got bored and decided to leave.

That is when it happened.

Without a single warning, a strange white crystal fell from the sky.

It did not crash-landed like most aliens in a movie.

It just float there... as if waiting for something.....

12 hours later...

The white crystal did nothing except floating on the place which it landed on. But just in case, the Government had evacuated the citizens and deployed the army.
I hang around (hiding in a safe area behind the army) because I am just really curious if it really an alien invasion. Whoever is in charge of this seems rather serious. They had deployed tanks and a strange-looking tank with an over-sized turret. I guess the IS incident had left such a bitter taste that they are taking no chances on this one.

The crystal suddenly turned blue and parts of it detached from the main body and transform into the arms of the crystal. A humanoid mask emerged out of the crystal, forming the head of the crystal.

“x47x72x65x65x74x69x6ex67x20x48x75x6dx61x6ex73x20x 61x72x65x20x79x6fx75x20x68x6fx73x74x69x6cx65” The crystal said as it began to move toward the army, holding its crystal arm up with its palm facing towards them.

Fearing that it is an attack, the Officer-in-charge(or I assume that he is one since he is ordering the soldiers around) ordered his men to open fire.

“x70x72x6fx67x72x61x6dx20x44x69x73x74x6fx72x74x69x 6fx6e” The crystal announced as the soldiers aimed their guns and open fire, unleashing a literal bullet storm on the crystal. But not a single one managed to land a hit on it. As if diverted by some sort of invisible wall, Bullet flew all over to the sides of the Crystal, damaging nearby cars, breaking all the windows and utterly obliterated all items on the window display.

All soldiers with rocket launcher fired at the Crystal there are lots of explosion but as soon as the smoke cleared, it became clear that they are out-tech-ed by the Crystal thingy.

The Crystal remain rooted.... I mean floated on the ground with not even a single scratch.

“I KNEW SOMETHING LIKE THIS WOULD HAPPEN!” The Officer-in-charge shouted excitedly. “TIME TO TEST THE HWIS-00!”

The Experimental tank-thingy begin to charge up.

One of the arms of the Crystal transformed into a single long blade and advanced towards the tank with accelerated pace.

“FIRE!” The Officer-in-Charge screamed.

“x70x72x6fx67x72x61x6dx20x64x65x6cx61x79” The Crystal replied.
The tank release a single burst of energy beamy....

The Crystal suddenly disappeared just as the beam came into contact and reappear right next to the tank. With a single swing, it cut the turret into two.
A soldier panic and took out his bayonet (I guess he ran out of ammo), and tried to stab the Crystal Alien with the small knife. The Crystal Alien grabbed the soldier with its non-blade hand and the man just collapsed on the floor.

I knew that things are going wrong and decide that it is really a time to bait out while the Crystal Alien is knocking out the soldiers one by one.

I was running as fast as I could, I do not care where I go so long as I am far away from the Crystal Alien.

“Are you running away again?” a female voice suddenly spoke up.

I stopped and turned towards to source of the voice. A familiar but strange looking girl looked at me with a frown on her face.

My mouth and eyes dropped wide open.

It’s her.... it is really her! It’s Aimi Fuwa from the game Love-me-more!

“Ho-how-b-but....” My head spin in giddiness. How is that possible? Mai is just a 2d character from a game. How did she escape from the game device and appear in real life?

Brushing the question aside, I decided to focus on a more pressing issue at hand. “Aimi-chan, you have to run, the aliens are attacking the city!”

“How long do you plan to run away?” Aimi ignored me and continued.

“This is really not the time to discuss this!” I grabbed her right arm but she pulled it away.

“Ever since your parent’s death, you had been running all your life. Always trying to skip Physical Education because you are weak in sport! Failing your exam because of your laziness! Avoiding girls because you are shy! Pretending to dislike real girls just because they are better than you! Living inside the closet because you are ashamed of your own hobby! Indulge yourself in game because life had not going well for you! Don’t you feel tired from it? Do you ever think about stopping running and start facing your problems?” The girl pressed on.

My legs suddenly feel soft as memories flooded into my head. I fell on my knees and cover my head with my hands, the feeling of hopeless and powerless overwhelmed me.....

“I....I wanted to but.... there is no way I could do anything about it! I am powerless! There is really nothing I could do!” I buried my head deeper into my hands.

“You are really powerless only if you keep telling yourself that!” With a gentle and assuring voice, Aimi place her hands on my back to comforting me. “It’s time for you to change....”

She pointed at something nearby, I looked up ans saw a building with a garage door. The door slowly opened by itself and reveals a strange looking machine. It looked like somebody doing a kowtow/dogeza with its head facing at whoever it is kowtowing to.

“Introducing, Crossing Reality with Fantasy, the Ultimate War Machine, ” Aimi turned smiled at me “AHM001: Dream Catcher.”

“We’re past the media phase, sir.”

Says the male operator, who’s viewing the live news coverage via the holographic main screen in the operations room. Behind him stands Gerald, the head of Praxidike. His arms crossed as he attentively watches the ongoing news feed with a small grin on his face.

“Good. Leave politics to their bickering, we’re moving on to the next phase.”

“Yes sir. Re-routing replicas to the rendezvous point.” The operator then swiftly types on his holographic keyboard, chaining a combination of keys which then reflects the replica drones’ change of direction on the screen.

“Commence countdown for the pod teams as well.”

“But sir, about the drop location…!”

The operator focuses the screen onto a particular point on the Japan’s overview hologram, zooming in onto the IS Academy that has been marked with a red, blinking target indicator.

“What about it?” Gerald asks the operator with his eyes narrowed.

“Sir, we should probably factor in the probability that the IS Academy has advanced radar tech… or a secondary radar system somewhere that can allow them to spot the pods from miles—”

“Not going to be a problem. Pod deployment timing is on you, right?”

“Err… Yes, sir. But… what does—oh…”

Realizing his role, the operator turns to look at the screen and stares at the marked target. A grin grows on his face as he then looks back to Gerald.

“I understand, sir. Leave it to me.”

Tony stark made a circuit board when he was a kid.

If the child in question could build a power armor at a similar age then it would be considered Iron Man. Then again, the integrity of the power armor would be questioned as well.

Question: Is Kanzashi the type of person who would go up against another person who threatens her rep cadet position? (unintentionally that is)

Ichika was undergoing a process of becoming a cadet rep, and yes, probably it's just that the important plot point squeezed by harem antics again. Per Eras claim, it was stated between food porns!

Why? Of course, nothing else has enough power density to power an I.S. with a reactor that small. But of course, we have to remember Monopole discussion two days ago.

I imagined when the idea of an armor made from scrapped IS frame parts, the only parts taken were those relevant. Excessive features such as PIC and shield were kept out of the design due to power contraints. The only things taken were mostly mechanical in nature and not heavy on energy use so I imagined using a battery at some point instead of a high output self-sustaining reactor.

Would it be all right if you or Box could elaborate more on the cadet rep process? Given the kinds of Cadet reps we've seen, it's hard to think that they are not competitive in the slightest.

barrier removed= destroyed by friction

As for power source, I.S. frame would still able to power itself so long as it still has enough SP inside it's capacitor. We already agree that I.S. core don't provide enough energy for fast-paced continuous combat, though it does provide enough for slow, very calculating fight like Ichika vs Cecilia (>23 minutes). So, no need for barrier or PIC removal.

You'll still need Nuclear reactor to recharge it though

No details, but apparently they're often selected from a pool of potentially talented pilot (Which explain of why there's very little amount of foreigner compared to Japanese). Personal pilot is chosen amongst them, rather than true skill, compatibility is preferred.

It IS very competitive, everyone is proud of her status (especially those like Cecilia or Rin), again, it's seems that the issue just folded for the sake of 'fun'. Apparently Ichika is so attractive that the plot bent inward to his denseness.

So let's say... Someone gets nominated(But the nominee isn't told) for Japanese Rep Cadet position and she has A-Grade compatibility with the IS system.

If the news were to reach Kanzashi and/or Ichika, would it bring about either/both of them to spark an impromptu duel with the nominee in question?

My guess is Ichika probably wouldn't care, but Kanzashi?

It's really depend on how you portray her. Because we didn't have frame of reference except Ichika.

In my opinion, Kanzashi will go for fair competition and not caring much about it, or the rival's very existence (her main challenge is always Tatenashi after all) she did it the same with Ichika regarding how her I.S. project is demoted for the sake of ByakuShiki's completion, she CREATED her own I.S. as result

EDIT: no, I guess there's no impromptu duel at all.

I asked because I wanted some form of rivalry between the Athena cast and the CCs. But then I figured there's no way for the Personals to have a reason to go up against any of the Athena cast(or vice versa) unless something precious to them, their rep cadet status for this case, "threatened".

well that is true... maybe a full body variant then. G's are only deadly when you accelerate too suddenly I think, so keeping a speed limit would be wise. The machine can combat IS but its only on the level of factory settings IS.

Every movement create g-force, a hard slap is 150 g spread across palm surface within split second, a dinky biplane turning at 300-400 mph still create 2-3 g, jet fighter maneuvering at supersonic creates up to 9 g, currently human limit of controlled g-force. (using special g-suit even)

EDIT: judging by explanation and combat scenes, factory-loaded I.S. can pull 15-20 g out of their ass without disturbing the pilot too much.

With the aid of her sister Talia, Kirin attempts to aim her Gripen buster sword which is now in its rifle mode as a panel near the blade’s tip shifts open, revealing a rifle muzzle. On the opposite end is Inami, in the Proioxis battle-armor looking around in panic.

“This thing doesn’t have sights! I can’t gauge where the shot is going to go…” She remarks with exasperation while trying to keep her IS arms stable.

“Well as long as it’s not ME, I’m fine with it!” Inami shouts to her across the arena’s length.

Tsurugi, whose standing at the sidelines in an Uchigane, walks over to his side and nudges his shoulder.

“Now now, Ina-kun. We had a deal, didn’t we? First to three in arm wrestling and I beat you fair and square! Take it like a man, why don’t you?”

“But why me? Can’t we just put a scarecrow or something for her to shoot at instead?”

“We don’t have a scarecrow! Also, Kirin said she needed… motivation.”

“How is shooting me with death beams a ‘motivation’…?”
