You know, now that you mention it it does sound great. I always cringe when some Hollywood movies use the same generic sounds for these type of things and don't use the original unique ones. |

Man that opening fight scene with the 501st was wicked. Too bad 2 witches were missing but the old gang will be back together soon. Decent first episode looks the Nueoi powers that be were happy with the job the others were task to do. They sent out the big boys this time.

On the episode: I actually found the first few minutes the most impressive of the episode. A Neuroi firing on another Neuroi throws a huge doubt on our lengthy 'Nice Neuroi Witch' debates. Looks like there are different factions within the Neuroi? Now I'm curious. |

I kinda doubt it's a Hurricane.. The propeller cones seem much larger, the nose looks smoother and the Vertical Stabilizers look sleeker compared to the broader ones found in the Hurricane.. Considering the 504th was based in Romagna.. I think they'd be more inclined to use their own aircraft ^ I'm wondering which Ital... err Romagna aircraft they used.. ^^ |

Actually, I'm pretty sure theyre just Zeros, cause after some inspection, I noticed that the lead Witch in the formation is from fuso, while the other 2 are from... whatever the equivalent to Germany is in Strike Witches, I totally dont remember at this point. Anyway, the same could be true for the JU52 and its escorts (Fuso and 'Germany'). If you pause as the planes are falling out of formation, you can see reddish marks under the wings... and besides, the fuselage shapes of the aircraft are very distinctive of zeros..... Imho. On the left-most fighter, you can see that the cockpit glass drops rather steeply into the fuselage, much like the zero... SO THATS MY THEORY.

I mean look at us! In an anime full of pretty girls with their bottoms half covered, we're talking about the bloody airplane I'm no longer the lolitron! Quote:
I'll be completely honest here, I have no idea what the airplane is. For all we know it could be a mix and mash of tech |

I literally LOL'd at the 'new striker unit' for Fuso. Kinda funny how the entirety of real life Japanese Zeroes were basically annihilated by the Wildcats and Hellcats from Long Islang (Grumman). It would probably have been their dream to upgrade as easily as Miyafuji did.
As for the animation, I just love how the clouds look this time around. Just an amazing sense of flight even when it's so absurd as a premise. Also, I wonder exactly how many Strike Witch girls we'll see by the end of the series. Looks like there's easily a dozen new girls so far. |

The single engined fighters behind the Ju 52 were Macchi 205's, you can tell this by the cowling around the inline engine, the angular intake below the body, the shape of the cockpit(and how its not flush to the tail of the plane), and the triangluar radio mast running from the cockpit to the vertical stabilizer.
Another interesting thing is how they (and the A5M trainers in episode 2 of the first season) are aircraft that do not have strikers based on them. Quote:

Hopefully we will at least see the witches that were shown in the [The Sky that Connects Us] manga. Last edited by ramlaen; 2010-07-10 at 05:49. |

I figured it wasn't the Hurricane due to the cockpit and engine. As for the italian stuff, I never bothered with those due to some history I have with the North african campaign
Now we can get back to the witches! Heh nice flying boat.... |
