Watakushi wa heiki desu!

A relatively recent one I liked was "Kikujiro".
During his summer vacation, an 8-year-old boy looks for his mother while traveling through Japan with a shiftless man. The guy is a neighbor of the kid, who is sent with the kid by his wife when they find the kid going out to find his mother on his own. The guy is really loud, rude, and obnoxious, half way thru the movie they are in a hotel swimming pool, and you see that the guy's back is covered with tattoos, which basically means that he is a mobster, thus kind of explaining his way of acting. It is basically the old kindhearted mobster and kid movie, but it was fun and enjoyable. |

Suggestions for Horror/ Thriller films.
I 've recently started my japanese horror binge., so far i've seen only the ju-on grudge 1 and 2. Rewatched ringu and Kairo. Also seen kwaidan as well. I know those are pretty mainstream horror flicks. Any suggestions for any low known horror flicks?
Btw i didnt find them to be scary at all though they did have some really cool concepts to spook you. Much thanks! |

There was this film festival in Helsinki called love & anarchy where they showed all kinds of 'indie' films, including a helluva lot of asian; japanese films. I was in heaven! My eyes are still sore from all the movies I went to see. One stood out especially. A japanese film called Azumi, I'm sure you know of it. It rocked. ^_^ I think that's one of my all time favourite japanese films. I really love Battle Royale as well, it gets better everytime I watch it.
Umbrae, I'm also a fan of Zatoichi, among other Kitano movies. Great pieces, I must say. BTW, anyone seen The Happiness of the Katakuri Family? Now there's a weird movie. oO; Oh, Ombrenuit, I personally love "slash" so just bring it on, baby! *grin* |

I was really interested to find out there is a japanese server on the game Joint Operations called "Battle Royale". It's a small island (custom map modeled after the one in the first movie) where you have to find weapons, you can get the pistol, and the best is the mp5 machine gun. A game lasts 4 hours (2 days in the game), and it's sort of a sick guilty pleasure to play on it (too bad the ping isn't so hot). Also, it would have been interesting for them to be able to close off zones and incorperate a bomb system if your in an off limits zone...hmm...
Oh, and I'll bring it :-P |
