While I really appreciated you adding that to VNDB (I didn't even know fanworks could go up there), please edit that to state that it's just a demo (otherwise, it'll disappoint a lot of people

). What's done in VN format so far was basically a test run of the first few chapters to see if Kimidori's VN approach, and my writing style, would translate well to an actual VN.

Hopefully Kimidori will have a much-longer demo out in the near future, which will incorporate some real romance scenes.

Anyway, I'm now working on the other two endings for Madoka Is Alone, and I hope to have them done within the next 2 or 3 days.

I hope you enjoy what I've wrote of the fanfic so far! A couple major Madoka romance routes are already completed, thankfully.

Madoka is Alone, Will Sayaka Choose Red or Yellow? Finale

The witch fight we are facing now is an unusual one, to say the least. Most importantly, this witch has had no fewer than four fearsome familiars fighting for her! Kyouko and I managed to defeat the first two, but the remaining two are proving to be quite the challenge…

First it was some weird creature shaped like a teenaged girl, but with a ‘head’ that was just a big mouth surrounded by endless blonde hair. Her screeching, deafening noise was annoying enough, but even worse was trying to take down that trampy familiar while she bounced up and down on a trampoline!

Then it was a familiar that looked almost exactly like a teenaged boy, only he was wearing a fencing mask as he served up explosive volleys with a badminton racket! Thankfully, I was able to blast away his bombs with my rifles, while Kyouko cut him down to size.

Mami’s Tiro Finale did the job against the ear-searing songstress, but right after she finished her off, she was sent flying by a headless horsewoman shooting off a barrage of arrows! As loath as I am to admit it, I’m now pinned down by a familiar rippin’ off sentai heroes. He’s covered from head to toe in classic sentai garb, and he’s a fast and strong one! I’ve managed to parry his fancy martial arts moves with my spear, but he hasn’t shown an opening yet.

And all of this keeps us from reaching our true goal, the witch herself. Half of her face is like a normal human face, while the other half is covered by a mask straight out of Phantom of the Opera. She sits on a humongous piano, and plays enchanting music on it, while a giant cat that must weigh about five hundred pounds sits on top of the piano, purring contentedly.

I’d be contented too if I was that well-fed! I’ve seen some fat cats before, but nothing like that monstrosity.

But the most important thing now is how time is running out, due to how both Kyouko and I are tiring. I can feel exhaustion begin to set in for me, as sweat lies uneasily across my brow, and my current assailant is able to match every rifle shot I make with explosive arrows of her own.

I can also tell that my Soul Gem is beginning to darken. This witch is an impressively powerful one, to be able to vex two Puella Magi like this. My mind races to think of a way to overcome our current predicament, but I can find none at all.

I can’t help but think that Kyouko and I… need help, and soon.

I can’t believe how well that went. My heart was racing the entire time!

But when I tracked down this witch, and saw the young woman that I’ve come to love be in such grave danger… I instinctively knew what to do. I’ll admit I wanted to impress her, wow her, sweep her off her feet. The truth is that she’s always had the upper-hand on me, with me being less experienced than her, both in life and as a Puella Magi.

I must make myself seem equal to her. I must act without hesitation, be as bold and surefooted as she is!

And to this end, I must destroy this witch… even while the melancholic music arising from its massive piano touches my heart and soul. It reminds me of what I love about Kyousuke, and so it leaves small tears in my eyes…

But I am done crying. I am done lamenting my loss to Hitomi. Today I march forward a new person, a stronger person.

One vision. One purpose. Peace through power!

I will my sword to grow three times larger, and much wider. It glows with magical might! And with that might, I sear through the explosive musical notes that the witch tries to stop me with. And then, her frantically moving fingers and crying eyes give way to the final note of her destruction. A note accentuated by her gigantic cat screeching in horror.

Once more, a descending sword slash finishes my enemy. Thankfully, this time the result is not gore, but a brilliantly multicolored explosion! I feel the warmth and color of fireworks at my back as my victory is gained!

I’m relieved to see that my victory over the witch occurs alongside Kyouko and Mami’s victory over the witch’s one remaining familiar.

My dear friends have been saved, and Mitakihara Town has been protected once more!

In the wake of the Walpurgis Night incident, I saw many new relationships grow and develop.

Hitomi and Kamijou grew ever-closer together. He seemed completely infatuated with her. Of course, there is a disturbing truth behind that… Nonetheless, they seemed happy together, and I do think that Hitomi sincerely loves him, so in time I was willing to be mildly supportive of their relationship. It certainly helped that Sayaka appeared to be in a happy romance of her own!

I’m glad that I gave Sayaka the advice that I did, because it seems to have paid off for her and her girlfriend.

Thankfully, Hitomi and Sayaka both still make some time for the friendship between the three of us. Although we don’t spend as much time together as we used to, it’s certainly a great weight off of my heart for the three of us to be friends again in spite of the harsh battle that Hitomi and Sayaka had become caught up in.

Still, I do feel a bit left out at times. Part of me does feel some regret. As I think things over in my mind, I could have easily been in a nice romance myself. I had temporarily been very close to Mami-san. And knowing what I know now about Sayaka, I can’t help but look back on her “joking” declaration of wanting me to be her wife, and wonder what opportunity I might have missed there.

For now, while I have many friends, I am romantically alone. All of those erotic yet disturbing dreams I had before this Puella Magi whirlwind took over my life… all of them seemed like strange and distant memories. Were those dreams ever really premonitions? Am I truly attracted to girls?

These questions rest uneasily in my mind, as I can’t help but dwell on all the romantic opportunities that I allowed to slip by…

Nonetheless, my friends are all healthy and well, in spite of many dangerous struggles, even amongst themselves! I should take comfort in that alone, and continue to be supportive of my friends and the romances that they may find themselves in.

Every now and then I see sad regret in Homura’s eyes as she looks at me. I wonder what this might signify. Homura has steadily grown more and more distant from the rest of us, including me, since the Walpurgis Night incident. I hope she’s not too lonely in her life…

But I definitely won’t allow myself to fall into the trap of loneliness. I must move forward without regret. It’s with such thoughts moving me on that I made a final rejection to Kyubey’s attempts to persuade me to become a Puella Magi. After all, there’s now more than enough magical girls to protect Mitakihara Town!

Much like what Homura said to me the first day that I met her, I should just live the life of a normal girl, and be content with that. I just hope that one day I might find somebody that I can love romantically too…

In any event, Sayaka, Mami, and Kyouko now make me think of a modern version of the Three Musketeers! They certainly work well together.

And thus concludes the Madoka Is Alone chains of Mami Lives. All that is left now of the Mami Lives side is the Mami Romance itself. That's what I'll be getting back to next... but given my greatly reduced update pace, it'll probably be awhile before I get to it.

Maybe it'll be wrote just in time to be a Christmas gift for Kirito.

Anyway, any and all feedback on the conclusion of MIA is welcomed!

Great chapter I really enjoyed the Kyouko/Sayaka segments, I am glad you're still planning to finish this even if at a slower pace

. I'd be lying if I said wasn't ever worried you were going to "hiatus" for longer than this due to your current schedule

.

Oh hey, I was actually able to keep my word this time whenever I promised that I would be able to review! As I've said before, I read the chapters right away, and my delayed reviews aren't an indicator of lacking interesting, but lacking time and lacking energy... ><

On a more positive note, the chapter we're starting off with - Mami Lives Chapter 12 Version I, which neatly enough was posted on my birthday - was nothing short of Sayakatastic. (Thanks Kogetsu

) The basic premise of Homura trying to keep Sayaka from turning into a witch by feigning romantic interest was a fantastic one. I know you were insecure at first and thought the idea might be too weird or out there, but I thought it was a very unique and intriguing premise while still being 100% plausible and in-character, a premise with a great amount of potential and that indeed allowed both characters to shine.

All the interaction between Homura and Sayaka this chapter was great. I laughed at Sayaka's "lesbian solidarity" phrase.

Poor girl felt so awkward at being alone with Homura like that. The dynamics here between Sayaka and Homura were very interesting. Sayaka's shock and confusion over such a confession coming from someone who seemed no more likely to profess a love for her than Kyubey, Homura's silky smooth seduction technique as she callously plays around with Sayaka's feelings primarily for Madoka's sake ("Forget the violinist and the backstabbing Shizuki" was both cute and sensual at the same time, Homura could sweep anyone off their feet about as easily as a tidal wave could sweep a surfer)... I was equally interested in both girls' every thought process and line of dialogue. The scene at the rooftop where Sayaka accepts Homura's "feelings" was likewise every bit as captivating, and Homura's moody "I'm sorry I'm so hard to relate to..." was a nice link to her original Moemure personality. Granted, Timeline 1 Homura wasn't generally moody, but I could see her pre-trauma self having that kind of girly, moody sensitivity streak to her as a secondary personality trait.

Why does Homura prefer to keep her use of telepathy to a minimum, out of curiosity?

Moving on to the visit that Mami and Kyouko pay her... ouch, it gets off to a rough start with "Hey, at least you have a dad... that's more than Mami or I can say." >_o Kyouko probably would have hurt her less if she thrust her spear up Sayaka's babymaker. Poor Sayaka... they hadn't been gone for more than 15 or 20 seconds before Kyouko said something that brutal.

Ah, and I have an idea for another minigame that takes place during this scene! Minigame 2: Avoid Mami's Tickles. You control Sayaka from a bird's eye view, running away from Mami through the streets of Mitakihara as she attempts to tickle you. If Mami catches you, you gain +2 Affection Points with Mami because she enjoys skinship, but Kyouko thinks you look weak and you lose -1 point with her. If Mami fails to catch you within 60 seconds, you win the game. Mami admires your nimbleness and speed (+1 Affection), wheras Kyouko is outright turned on by your alpha femaleness (+3 Affection). Get to programming, Kimidori.

The scene where Mami and Kyouko tried to cheer up Sayaka was very warm and touching... pretty hot too given the strong yuri undertones, but more warm and gentle than anything. For all my frustrations with the human race, I'm still very aware that people can be amazingly warmhearted and generous sometimes, can surprise you sometimes with how much they care about you or how highly they think about you. This scene was a perfect demonstration of that. Hmm, I wonder who I would have picked between Mami and Kyouko had I come across this scene in the Visual Novel... I think Sayaka has more chemistry with Kyouko, but I could see a lasting relationship much more easily with Mami. Sayaka x Kyouko strikes me as an explosive relationship between two girls that care for each other, but would ultimately self-destruct, in large part because Sayaka is more mature and has her act more together than Kyouko does. Decisions, decisions...

Next comes Mami Lives Chapter 12, Version II. Man, Homura sure was cold and calculating at the beginning with how she whispered demurely to Sayaka, "Please don't let me down... my love," thinking to herself that she wasn't exactly being the most sincere. I've heard of ice queens before, but Homura is the Ice Queen. The guilt and self-loathing she felt a bit later down the road wasn't entirely undeserved, I have to say. But yeah, the dynamic between Sayaka and Homura continues to be a fascinating one. Sayaka is almost like a puppy in her singleminded adoration and loyalty, and Homura wrestling not just with her guilt, but also with the understanding that she might not be merely pretending to be in love anymore, made for very interesting writing. Sayaka x Homura might have been a pretty brief affair - Madoka is the main character, after all, and her relationships the main focus - but it was a great ride while it lasted, a very lovely feather to add to this story's hat.

Minigame 3! Mami flies around in the skies of Mitakihara, avoiding projectiles and attacks from Walpurgis Night as she charges up her magic to participate in the Trio Tiro Finale. Mami is on the defensive here and can't attack, you have to dodge Walpurgis Night's assault for one full minute for Mami to charge up her magic and then join Hitomi and Homura in the assault.

Next comes Mami Lives Chapter 12... again... third version of it... ^^; The tangled webs this story weaves can become pretty confusing. The narrative technique used at the beginning with the main speaker swiftly cycling between Kyouko and Mami was very cool, and your talent with creating awesome, horrifically nightmarish Witches shows absolutely no signs of slowing down. Honestly, that Witch would be so terrifying to encounter in real life that I probably wouldn't even be able to bring myself to fight it; the Witches in this story are far more creepy than they ever were in the anime, I'd rather face Walpurgis Night than this monstrosity. I'm glad that Kyouko and Mami were brave enough not to go into a fear-induced coma the moment they laid eyes upon it, though, because this was an awesome fight as usual; the mental image of Mami using her rifle to blow up the witches' explosives is a particularly badass one.

Minigame 4! A brutal boss fight against the Witch and her various familiars. There is an FMV cutscene every time one of them changes forms, and once all the familiars are defeated, you fight against the Witch yourself via Sword Art Online-style full-immersion virtual reality. My demands are high, but Kimidori is an amazing programmer. I have faith in her.

With the witch defeated, we move along to lighter subject matters, to pastures that are more central to the essence of Pure Pink Pretty Lovers: Sayaka expanding her harem and securing herself some girlfriends. They say birds of a feather stick together, and that must explain why Madoka and Sayaka are best friends: there's no girl in Madoka's harem that hasn't likewise earned a place in Sayaka's. The only difference is that Sayaka is a pure, monogamous saint, wheras Madoka is a naughty, cheating, unfaithful whore (and I love her for it). As I said before, this might be the first time in either the anime or the story that we've ever seen Kyouko become flustered and embarassed... and I would pay good money to see her flip out into a shyly denying rage.

Minigame 5! Streets of Rage-style beat-em-up with Sayaka and a computer-controlled Kyouko fighting the common crooks of Mitakihara.

And for Sayaka x Mami, the brief glimpse into their relationship proves that they might have more chemistry than I expected, but alas, a brief glimpse is all we're getting here in PPPL. I do have to say, though, that I love the Mami pictures; the second is probably the best picture of Mami I've ever seen. Cute and sexy at the same time, confident and demure all at once (and not just demure, but coming across somewhat as though she's the beta in their relationship). Totally love it.

Well-said. I think that one of Homura's greatest strengths is her directness and confidence. When she has a goal in mind, she's able to boldly push forward with short, effective statements.

I agree. I think there's a light touch of tsundere in Homura, and certain comments can bring that out of her.

She was mainly just stalling. She didn't want to get to the heart of her discussion with Sayaka until they were in a more private setting.

Plus, I think it's possible that Homura associates Puella Magi telepathy with Kyubey, and hence I could see her not liking telepathy for that reason alone.

My view on Kyouko is that Kyouko doesn't get tact. She consistently speaks her mind, for good or for ill (and I think you get some of both). Kyouko can make very incisive observations precisely because she's less concerned with not offending other people than what most people are. But it also means that Kyouko might be a hard person to be with (so I get your point on KyouSaya vs. MamiSaya).

I think that Homura is extremely efficient and pragmatic. I think she generally has good control of her own emotions, and is pretty adept at finding ways to impact the emotions of others to achieve desired ends.

Yeah, I think that once Homura sees just how sincere Sayaka is about it all, it makes Homura realize just how coldly manipulative she was being.

My view on Sayaka is that, for her, the key element in romantic interest is admiration.

Sayaka's main, overriding reason for loving Kyousuke is her admiration of his musical talent.

And I think that the people Sayaka chooses to become close to is based a lot on admiration.

On Junko Kaname: “Your mom's great, Madoka” Sayaka said a little later on during our walk to school, “She has good looks and she's so energetic.”

On Homura: “I thought she was a genius beauty, smart, and athletically talented, but she's just a nut!” Sayaka stated, based on what I had told her, “How many points is that transfer student trying to show off?!”

On Hitomi: “That's our Honours student!” Sayaka exclaimed complimentary, “So mature!”

I also think that Sayaka chose to be best friends with Madoka based on Madoka's considerable personality strengths (I delved into this a lot in the Sayaka romance route in Mami Lives).

I think that Sayaka is a romantic in the same sense that Madoka is, but Sayaka is also very practical in how she assesses others. So for Sayaka, the key emotion is "awe".

And you know, now that I think about it, I think this is much of the reason why Homura frustrated Sayaka so much. Sayaka was keenly aware of Homura's many awe-inspiring strengths, and that clashed nastily with Homura's cold treatment towards Mami, Madoka, and Sayaka herself in the first three episodes.

Homura hence is a painful contradiction within Sayaka's worldview ("How can this girl who has so many wonderful qualities be such a nasty and unfriendly person?! What a shame that she's a nut!")

In any event, a big part of the reason why I could see this Sayaka/Homura ending happening is that Sayaka does admire Homura's strengths. And if Homura was to confess to Sayaka, then that would end Homura's painfully contradictory nature in Sayaka's mind. With the contradiction gone, Homura simply becomes the beautiful star student that Sayaka likely considers herself fortunate to have gained the affection of.

Yeah, that's probably why I lost some readers.

However, my sense is that this will work way better in the VN. I hope it'll give the VN lots of replayability.

Thanks a lot! I have aimed for my fanfic-original witches to be distinctively menacing and threatening. This latest witch is also a shoutout to one of my favorite anime shows of 2012.

I sometimes think about what my fanfic would look like in anime form. This witch fight scene would definitely be one of my favorite scenes (along with Madoka vs. Jinnai, Sayaka vs. Hitomi, "Tiger and Bunny" vs. Jinnai, and Mami & Homura vs. the surfing witch).

With the witch defeated, we move along to lighter subject matters, to pastures that are more central to the essence of Pure Pink Pretty Lovers: Sayaka expanding her harem and securing herself some girlfriends. They say birds of a feather stick together, and that must explain why Madoka and Sayaka are best friends: there's no girl in Madoka's harem that hasn't likewise earned a place in Sayaka's. The only difference is that Sayaka is a pure, monogamous saint, wheras Madoka is a naughty, cheating, unfaithful whore (and I love her for it).

Partly because Sayaka's romance would be rooted in her admiration for her partner, I don't think that Sayaka could ever be unfaithful. Sexual attraction alone is secondary for Sayaka; It has some role, of course, but it's secondary to gaining Sayaka's admiration in practical ways.

But Madoka is a bit more softhearted, and caring is the key factor for her. I think Madoka would have a harder time saying "no" to another person's emotions. Ironically, that can be a bad thing in this case.

Sayaka admires Mami (the anime makes this clear), and Sayaka gives freely and happily to the people she admires.

Mami is silky smooth and very easy to admire. But she's terribly lonely, and needs companionship.

It's not hard to see how Sayaka and Mami could fill absolutely key needs for each other. But it's not the most likely relationship because of Sayaka's pre-existing ones (Kamijo, and Madoka), and how Madoka's caring nature resonates the most with Mami I think.

Still, I have little doubt that Sayaka and Mami would work well under the right circumstances.

With everyone moving forward romantically, Madoka sure is getting the short end of the stick in the 5th that Mami fills in canonically "shudders in disgust". Sayaka gets new love and Madoka is content with that with the hope that she'll get loved in return. With Sayaka moving forward and Madoka still a normal girl, all is right with the world minus the lack of romance of said main character. All is well that ends well, I guess, but it'll all itself out in a special chapter of this... hopefully.

I have just finished reading the entirety of the Mami Alive Sayaka route. Opinion in the spoilered place.

In other news, I think you should update the index a bit more often. It was hard to go around the thread, looking for additional chapters while avoiding being spoiled about other routes (I wanted to get to the end of the Sayaka route before checking others)! And the second youtube link for episode 11 of Mami Alive Sayaka route is dead, by the way. The account that upped it was killed due to copyright infringement.

Oh, and I have added the fanfic to the Madoka Magica fanfic recommendations page on TVTropes, so expect some tropers to come here sometime in the future~

Keep up the good work, dear! I will be watching.

One thing I'll definitely admit here is that my fanfic is pretty cheesy.

I love making references to other anime shows/characters that I'm fond of. And some characters I felt would fill useful roles in the story, so I sort of insert them into the story to the point it's a borderline crossover.

As much as I love yuri, I didn't want this to be pure romance. I also wanted it to have a fair deal of action. I felt that the Madoka/Sayaka romance needed some added action to "spice it up", hence the inclusion of a new villain and Sayaka's dad being very liberally based on Kotetsu from Tiger and Bunny.

I'm curious, TreacherousFox, did you like the core Madoka/Sayaka romance itself?

There's a couple weaknesses to it looking back on it now, after thinking more deeply on how Madoka/Sayaka would most believably play out, but I'm still about 80 to 90% happy with that romance.

And yeah, one of these days I'm going to comb this thread and fix all the broken links in it.

Just so you know, Mami Romance isn't complete yet. The only other route completed is Mami Lives Homura Romance.

I am okay with that. As long as it is done in moderation and with sense, cheesy stuff can be a lot better than something purely serious. I mean, look at Double Dragon Neon. XD

Well, the one pairing I like more than Kyoko x Sayaka is Madoka x Sayaka, so bear in mind that my opinion may not be as unbiased as you desire. However, since you ask me, I will say that I liked the core romance. Sure, there were a few moment were Madoka and Sayaka looked a bit OOC, but, well, I blamed that to hormones. The first love can make us act strange and stupid, after all. And despite those moments, I felt that most of their actions made sense in a way.

Anyway... *MEANWHILE, IN A PARALLEL UNIVERSE!!* We find Batman worrying about some guy named Clark's Superman's odd behavior, and so he investigates using one of his many lovely toys. Just where does he get those, anyway? Security in the Fortress of Solitute is quite lax, so Bats can make it to the viewing room unnoticed, and catch Big Blue in the act of enjoying his secret videos. And with the help of a kryptonite camera, (which most likely has a LexCorp logo plastered somewhere) the Dark Knight manages to capture the Man of Steel's dark secret: a fondness for little girls in pretty dresses... which is far better than dressing up a series of young boys in red-and-green tights. Superman's attempts to try and sell Nanoha to Batman... actually kinda remind me of some of my own DVD purchases. While I've never tried to make a sales pitch like Clark, I will admit there's been a few moments of awkwardness. Also, I can't help but laugh at Jimmy being brought into things. Chrono as a Robin is an amusing thought, and I'd kinda like to see someone do that. I mean, I've seen a shot of Nanoha as a Star Sapphire, so it's possible! At any rate, due to begrudgingly admitting to liking Nanoha(or at least her black-clad counterparts), the Caped Crusader decided to suggest a different kind of magical girl series to the Boy Scout... and I have to admit, the thought of Alfred watching Madoka Magica off-screen amuses me. Of course, Superman wasn't amused by what he saw. In fact, he seemed to be quite shaken by the events of episodes 3 and 8... and I have to admit I'm kinda curious as to what Superman would actually look like with his new costume. (In fairness to him, the only part of his outfit that doesn't match the new accessories is the red!) About the only other comment I have to make is... well... the mental image of Batman snickering is quite a terrifying one. Still, it's funny to think of him as a troll. Anyway... This is probably necessary to refresh your memory on a narrative chain that hasn't been touched on in a long time... Mami Lives Chapter 12 Madoka is Alone, Will Sayaka Choose Red or Yellow? Finale The witch fight we are facing now is an unusual one, to say the least. Most importantly, this witch has had no fewer than four fearsome familiars fighting for her! Kyouko and I managed to defeat the first two, but the remaining two are proving to be quite the challenge… First it was some weird creature shaped like a teenaged girl, but with a ‘head’ that was just a big mouth surrounded by endless blonde hair. Her screeching, deafening noise was annoying enough, but even worse was trying to take down that trampy familiar while she bounced up and down on a trampoline! Then it was a familiar that looked almost exactly like a teenaged boy, only he was wearing a fencing mask as he served up explosive volleys with a badminton racket! Thankfully, I was able to blast away his bombs with my rifles, while Kyouko cut him down to size. Mami’s Tiro Finale did the job against the ear-searing songstress, but right after she finished her off, she was sent flying by a headless horsewoman shooting off a barrage of arrows! As loath as I am to admit it, I’m now pinned down by a familiar rippin’ off sentai heroes. He’s covered from head to toe in classic sentai garb, and he’s a fast and strong one! I’ve managed to parry his fancy martial arts moves with my spear, but he hasn’t shown an opening yet. And all of this keeps us from reaching our true goal, the witch herself. Half of her face is like a normal human face, while the other half is covered by a mask straight out of Phantom of the Opera. She sits on a humongous piano, and plays enchanting music on it, while a giant cat that must weigh about five hundred pounds sits on top of the piano, purring contentedly. I’d be contented too if I was that well-fed! I’ve seen some fat cats before, but nothing like that monstrosity. But the most important thing now is how time is running out, due to how both Kyouko and I are tiring. I can feel exhaustion begin to set in for me, as sweat lies uneasily across my brow, and my current assailant is able to match every rifle shot I make with explosive arrows of her own. I can also tell that my Soul Gem is beginning to darken. This witch is an impressively powerful one, to be able to vex two Puella Magi like this. My mind races to think of a way to overcome our current predicament, but I can find none at all. I can’t help but think that Kyouko and I… need help, and soon. The “Red Ranger” grunts as he’s kicked squared in the chest by a bluish-black streaking strike! Then, landing on her feet with all the skill of a thin cat, is somebody I’ve come to know real well, and find pretty hot. But she’s never been hotter than she looks now, since she’s wearing steamin’ black! “I used to love sentai heroes growing up…” she said, with a touch of melancholy as she faced her familiar foe, “But I’ll make an exception when it comes to those who hurt my dearest friends!” The voice is Sayaka Miki’s, but her Puella Magi outfit has changed. The blue bits are still the same, but everywhere that was white is now black! Sayaka then launched herself like a black cat pouncing on her prey, beginning a mesmerizing dance with the “Red Ranger”. For “his” part, he was grunting some incomprehensible battle cries, ironically sounding like the villains that sentai rangers fight. The Red Ranger did a low sweeping kick, causing Sayaka to leap into the air. Sayaka then attempted a midair roundhouse kick that the Red Ranger blocked with his forearm. Sayaka then did a barrel roll straight over his head while he tried to uppercut her from blow. *Sayaka was pretty much flyin’!* Parry and thrust, punch and kick, sword swipe and elbow block… the two went at it in one of the coolest fights I’ve seen! I was so mesmerized by it that I forgot to jump in myself. Damn, that’s lame of me. It’s time to correct that! “Nice going, Sayaka!” I finally managed, while smirking, “But I can’t let you have all the fun!” “Sorry…” she said, with such atypically smooth confidence, “But I have this all wrapped up!” Sayaka’s sword suddenly stretched out like a snake, wrapping itself all around the Red Ranger, with sharp edges of it digging into him. He released a painful cry. Sayaka then released him, but this familiar was badly wounded and collapsed gingerly to his knees. Sayaka then screamed a totally badass battle cry while she sliced his head straight off his body! Wow… “I hope I didn’t ruin your fun too much, Kyouko…” Sayaka said with a smirk, but also a slight blush, as she temporarily sheathed her sword, “But I couldn’t bear to see the girl I have a crush on get hurt.” My eyes went wide, and my face went red, over that statement. Sayaka followed it up by leaning close into me, and placing a soft, tender kiss on the corner of my mouth. “I’ll try not to keep you waiting, next time…” she whispered huskily to me, as she pulled herself back away from me. “Now, you help Mami finish off that headless archer over there, while I take care of the witch!” Sayaka shouted with a slight smile. “R-Right!” I stammered in reply. Damn it, how can she be so smooth?! She actually has me stammering… Spoiler for From Green Protégé to Blue Savior!: I hear a shout, strong and clear, delivered alongside the picture perfect poise of a bluish-white blur kicking the headless familiar safely out of my way. The headless horsewoman releases a painful shriek upon her and her horse crashing unto their side! My dashing rescuer than quickly assumes a defensive position directly in front of me. She is leaning slightly over, with one hand tensely preparing to grab the hilt of her sword, carefully sizing up her opponent. “Sorry for not getting here sooner, Mami…” she says to me, while she tilts her head sideways to make eye contact with me, “But I promise to make up for my lateness by being extra effective in battle today!” Sayaka blushes as she says those words, and I can’t help but blush as well. “Are you Ok?” Sayaka asks me, “I notice some bruises on you. You’re not hurt, are...” “I’m fine.” I reply in the softest and most reassuring tone of voice that I can muster, “And don’t worry about the timing of your arrival. In fact, your timing couldn’t be better! Besides, your arrival itself is a most pleasant surprise…” There’s a softness and sweetness to Sayaka’s concerned words that seems to betray deeper emotions than that of an understudy slightly disappointing her senior. So I felt compelled to match Sayaka’s stated sentiments by hinting at my own… “Let’s see if I can make my surprising arrival even more pleasant for you…” Sayaka said with a blush and a smirk. My, that made me blush a darker red than even that of Kyouko’s outfit… Sayaka then proceeded to lure the recovered headless horsewoman away from me. Sayaka dashed back and forth in white hot flashes, barely perceptible to the naked eye, as she avoided every arrow shot her way. But as she did this, she carefully circled about the headless horsewoman, and waited for the opportune moment to *strike! Once that moment arrived, Sayaka launched herself into the air with such stupendous swiftness that she honestly made me think of a certain famous fictional character of super* achievements! Sayaka’s own achievement would be rather super itself, as with one incredible descending slash, she bisected the headless horsewoman in two! The resulting gore of that was quite gruesome to behold, but it was not enough to lessen how deeply impressed I was by Sayaka right now. “Now, you help Kyouko finish off that red ranger over there, while I take care of the witch!” Sayaka shouted at me, while I basked in the glow of her shining smile. “Agreed.” I stated in reply. “Thanks for supporting my plan so easily, Mami-senpai…” Sayaka stated, as she drew closer into me to entwine her fingers with mine and kiss the Soul Gem adorned on my head. Then in a flash, she was off to execute her plan. Such impeccable smoothness… how you have grown and matured, Sayaka. I can’t believe how well that went. My heart was racing the entire time! But when I tracked down this witch, and saw the young woman that I’ve come to love be in such grave danger… I instinctively knew what to do. I’ll admit I wanted to impress her, wow her, sweep her off her feet. The truth is that she’s always had the upper-hand on me, with me being less experienced than her, both in life and as a Puella Magi. I must make myself seem equal to her. I must act without hesitation, be as bold and surefooted as she is! And to this end, I must destroy this witch… even while the melancholic music arising from its massive piano touches my heart and soul. It reminds me of what I love about Kyousuke, and so it leaves small tears in my eyes… But I am done crying. I am done lamenting my loss to Hitomi. Today I march forward a new person, a stronger person. One vision. One purpose. *Peace through power!* I will my sword to grow three times larger, and much wider. It glows with magical might! And with that might, I sear through the explosive musical notes that the witch tries to stop me with. And then, her frantically moving fingers and crying eyes give way to the final note of her destruction. A note accentuated by her gigantic cat screeching in horror. Once more, a descending sword slash finishes my enemy. Thankfully, this time the result is not gore, but a brilliantly multicolored explosion! I feel the warmth and color of fireworks at my back as my victory is gained! I’m relieved to see that my victory over the witch occurs alongside Kyouko and Mami’s victory over the witch’s one remaining familiar. My dear friends have been saved, and Mitakihara Town has been protected once more! If you chose A for MSA Choice 2, read Section Red Passion with Black Style. Mami and I are barely done defeating this headless horsewoman, and you’ve already taken care of the witch. I hope you realize I’m not going to let you show me up like this again! … But still, a big part of me felt so happy at seeing Sayaka like this. Her new look was too awesome for words! When I asked her why she changed to the black-and-blue look, her first response was to joke that she wanted it to signify how she’d make her enemies black and blue! That was a lame joke that I just had to needle her about, but the final answer she gave to my question made my face flush as red as my outfit. “Well, Kyouko, the truth is…” Sayaka said a bit sheepishly, while she shyly squirmed a bit, and scraped the ground with a nervous heel, “I changed to the black and blue look since I thought you’d really like it…” Mami then teased me about Sayaka’s answer, causing me to flip out into a shyly denying rage. I hate how Mami knows what buttons to push to get me flustered! But over time, the person who would get to know me best would definitely be Sayaka… My life soon lit up with passion and excitement unlike anything I’ve ever felt before! Sayaka… Sayaka was like everything that I could ask or pray for. She definitely gave me a new lease on life, while invigorating almost every aspect of it! Sayaka’s parents weren’t keen on her being with another girl romantically, so we had to keep it secret from them. I hated this sort of conforming subterfuge, but I can’t deny it made things so much more fun and exciting! How often Sayaka and I would sneak into the park, or sneak into a deserted alleyway, for a few spine-tingling, goose bumps-creating, moments of incredible release. These thrilling encounters became the spice of life for me, and it made me a much more contended and happy person. Over time, I have to admit I softened a bit. Sayaka, and Mami to a smaller extent, restored much of my faith in humanity, and also my faith in God. Now I can see that for all the darkness in life, there is also light. With such delicious irony, just as Sayaka took on the garb of black, I started to see the light of life once more. Sayaka and I now live together in Tokyo, as young adults. We spend many nights patrolling the city for witches and familiars to fight, and even on occasion we’ll try to stop common crooks. That almost got us into trouble with the police once, though, so I doubt we’ll be trying that too often! The question for the two of us now is how long we can keep Sayaka’s parents in the dark. But whatever the answer to that question is, I already know what my answer will always be to Sayaka’s heart. I never want to be separate from her. I want to feel her enlivening embrace every night, and her faithful friendship every day. No matter what, Sayaka, I’m going to make you my wife! I am so very thankful for having met Kyouko. She is such a wondrous person, who’s energetic nature always keeps me excited and on my toes! There is never a dull moment with her around. Madoka remains my closest platonic friend, though. After all, I have Madoka to thank for my choice in pursuing Kyouko! Madoka was right in the advice she gave me when I asked her which of the two girls I should choose. Kyouko has indeed brought almost endless excitement into my life. And I think that in turn I’ve brought some welcomed stability into her’s. We certainly complement each other well, and I can’t imagine life without her. So I hope to always have Kyouko’s arms to come back to… Spoiler for Blue Knight with Golden Love: Sayaka’s exquisitely epic rescue of Kyouko and I would showcase the first sure sign of her reciprocating my feelings for her. These were the feelings that I had shared with her when both Kyouko and I tried to cheer her up in the wake of her devastating loss to Hitomi. But Sayaka has come so far, and become so strong, since that lost. Her and I, along with Homura, Kyouko, and Hitomi, would prove to be more than sufficient in defeating Walpurgis Night once it made its inevitable arrival. Homura had been injured badly on that night, but Sayaka went to great lengths to ensure her survival, and eventual recovery. Madoka, for her part, never became a Puella Magi, in spite of Kyubey’s many attempts to persuade her into becoming one. Madoka correctly reasoned that Mitakihara Town now had ample protection with Sayaka, Homura, Kyouko, Hitomi, and I all being magical girls operating out of this city, or in a nearby territory. However, Madoka did seem somewhat lonely and isolated in the months to come, and that caused me to feel some concern for her. Still, in the light of the growing relationship between Sayaka and I, there were times when Sayaka seemed like my whole world to me. Sayaka’s father Kotetsu, one of the coolest men I’ve ever met, warmly embraced me as his daughter’s “new close friend”. Sayaka and I hid the romantic nature of our relationship from him and her mother for as long as we could. When the truth eventually came out, Sayaka’s mother was greatly angered by it and protested it, but Sayaka was now an adult living with me. It was thankfully too late for her mother to effectively challenge our love for one another. The discreet relationship I enjoyed with Sayaka over much of our teenaged years was very soothing, but also intoxicatingly thrilling to me, precisely because it was like a precious and tightly guarded secret that only the two of us shared with each other, and only our most trusted of confidantes. So many comforting embraces, so many tantalizing kisses, so many nights of blessed release in the fires of love… oh, how I had come to love her, rely on her, find my deepest longings realized through her. To think that this was all made possible by my attempts to help her through romantic loss. My romantic generosity had been paid back to me in full, and then some. We have become equals, but both physically and in my heart, I look up lovingly at her. But ironically, even now, I can tell that she holds a certain reverence and respect towards me. Even as her lover, she still sees me as her trusted “senpai”, at least in the Puella Magi world. But that world is now only a small part of the bond that Sayaka and I share. I am confident that we will be together always… I am so very thankful for having met Mami. She is such a wonderful person, and she has become so much to me: a trustworthy friend, a patient senpai, an irreplaceable lover… Madoka remains my closest platonic friend, though. Spoiler for Twirling Twin-Tails Towers of Power!: I also have Madoka to thank for how Mami and I now have matching hair-styles! Me getting a twirling twin-tails look to mirror Mami’s own truly touched and flattered her. It resulted in one of the few times I’ve heard Mami stammer from embarrassment, ha ha! With Mami and I having matching hairstyles, Madoka started calling us “the Dynamic Duo of Mitakihara Town!” Mami said that she finds that fitting given her own issue with losing parents at a young age… That caused some nervous laughter for Madoka and I, but it also showed how strong Mami had become in being able to crack jokes like that. Such strength on Mami’s part also reflects the peace and stability that seems to follow Mami wherever she goes. Mami has indeed brought pleasant peace and stability into my life. I hope to always have her at my side… In the wake of the Walpurgis Night incident, I saw many new relationships grow and develop. Hitomi and Kamijou grew ever-closer together. He seemed completely infatuated with her. Of course, there is a disturbing truth behind that… Nonetheless, they seemed happy together, and I do think that Hitomi sincerely loves him, so in time I was willing to be mildly supportive of their relationship. It certainly helped that Sayaka appeared to be in a happy romance of her own! I’m glad that I gave Sayaka the advice that I did, because it seems to have paid off for her and her girlfriend. Thankfully, Hitomi and Sayaka both still make some time for the friendship between the three of us. Although we don’t spend as much time together as we used to, it’s certainly a great weight off of my heart for the three of us to be friends again in spite of the harsh battle that Hitomi and Sayaka had become caught up in. Still, I do feel a bit left out at times. Part of me does feel some regret. As I think things over in my mind, I could have easily been in a nice romance myself. I had temporarily been very close to Mami-san. And knowing what I know now about Sayaka, I can’t help but look back on her “joking” declaration of wanting me to be her wife, and wonder what opportunity I might have missed there. For now, while I have many friends, I am romantically alone. All of those erotic yet disturbing dreams I had before this Puella Magi whirlwind took over my life… all of them seemed like strange and distant memories. Were those dreams ever really premonitions? Am I truly attracted to girls? These questions rest uneasily in my mind, as I can’t help but dwell on all the romantic opportunities that I allowed to slip by… Nonetheless, my friends are all healthy and well, in spite of many dangerous struggles, even amongst themselves! I should take comfort in that alone, and continue to be supportive of my friends and the romances that they may find themselves in. Every now and then I see sad regret in Homura’s eyes as she looks at me. I wonder what this might signify. Homura has steadily grown more and more distant from the rest of us, including me, since the Walpurgis Night incident. I hope she’s not too lonely in her life… But I definitely won’t allow myself to fall into the trap of loneliness. I must move forward without regret. It’s with such thoughts moving me on that I made a final rejection to Kyubey’s attempts to persuade me to become a Puella Magi. After all, there’s now more than enough magical girls to protect Mitakihara Town! Much like what Homura said to me the first day that I met her, I should just live the life of a normal girl, and be content with that. I just hope that one day I might find somebody that I can love romantically too… In any event, Sayaka, Mami, and Kyouko now make me think of a modern version of the Three Musketeers! Why, the last time I posted, I believe it was something involving a man in blue, red and yellow tights. Of course, I suppose I should be focusing on a different set of superpowers connected to those colors right now... Spoiler for A Carousel of Colors: ... That so would've worked better if Disney had bought DC instead of Marvel... Anyway, this chapter starts off with a witch that has a set of familiars more diverse than the ones possessed by Candeloro! This band of familiars designed for archery and riding and singing and trampolines and sentai battles and sometimes batminton seems like it would be enough to take down any girl foolish enough to challenge their master alone. As it is, even the combined efforts of Mami and Kyouko were barely enough take down just the singer and the badminton star, and they found themselves pinned by the other two! Geeze, this musical witch has some pretty annoying backups... Speakin' of the witch, the masked phantom herself was playing a haunting melody on a grand piano, in more than one sense of the word, for this battle's theme... all while a cat that would make a certain orange lasagna lover look malnourished adorns the top of said piano! But wait! Where there's music and magic, a certain girl is bound to show up! Spoiler for Makin' the Red Ranger Feel Black and Blue!: And who should arrive in a blue and black blur of a dynamic entry? Why, Sayaka of course! After giving a statement ironically worthy of the genre her foe is a pastiche of, Sayaka set off to participate in a battle where she had to have been pressin' Z or R a lot. A battle apparently spectacular enough for Kyouko to be too stunned to join... which obviously means I feel totally left out for not being able to even see it! Anyway, with a move slightly borrowed from Kyouko, Sayaka brought her foe to his knees before delivering a finishing blow. Afterwards, with a bit of smooth talking, Sayaka made it clear who she picked while heading off to face the Piano Witch... and left Kyouko unable to talk without a stammer. Spoiler for Cuttin' the Headless Horsewoman Limb From Limb!: And who should arrive in a blue and white blur of a dynamic entry? Why, Sayaka of course! After checking to make sure Mami was okay, Sayaka set off to impress her senpai and would-be girlfriend. I gotta say though, havin' Sayaka face a headless horsewoman with a bow to save Mami? That's some rather cruel irony... Still, it makes for one awesome familiar! Anyway, with the swiftness of a cat, Sayaka managed to distract the familiar, avoid its countermeasures and place herself in a prime position to perfectly prevail against her precariou... bah, too many P's! After defeating the equestrian archer, Sayaka gently kisses Mami's soul gem before heading off to face the Piano Witch... a bit of smoothness that naturally impressed Mami. After saving her would-be girlfriend, Sayaka strove to make herself an equal to said girlfriend, even with the pain of having to face a music-themed foe soon after losing a musician love interest. But enough tears, enough sorrow! Now is the time to take command, and conquer this witch once and for all! And so, with a slash from her Zankantou, Sayaka smites the evil witch... *CHESTO!!* ... Whoops, think I got my references mixed up there... Where was I? Ah right, now I remember. Spoiler for Heated Metal: Kyouko most definitely noticed Sayaka's victory, as well as her change in attire. A change in which she seemingly played a part in, leading to some teasing from Mami. Said teasing wasn't enough to hinder the budding romance between Sayaka and Kyouko, however. A romance that reinvigorated Kyouko, restoring her to the way she once was. Ultimately, she ended up with a similar goal to one I (admittedly jokingly) had when I first looked into this, so I guess I can't blame her for wanting Sayaka as a wife. As for Sayaka, she truly seems happy being with Kyouko, so I have no complaints. Yep, it seems Madoka made the right choice for Sayaka... Spoiler for Gilded Steel: Mami most definitely took notice of Sayaka's victory, as well as the obvious increase in her strengths. Guess the Power of Love really does exist in this world, huh? Unfortunately, while Kotetsu seemed quite fond of Mami, it seems a certain other parent wasn't too keen about the relationship between her and Sayaka... oh well, unlike with a certain other route, that information came about too late for her to be an obstacle. For Sayaka's part, she seems very satisfied with said relationship... and potentially a new Mami-inspired hairstyle, should Madoka have suggested it. Dynamic Drill Duo or not, Madoka seems to have made the right choice for Sayaka... Unfortunately, despite giving Sayaka such great advice in romance, Madoka herself ends up alone... while also realizing the mistakes she may have made that led to her remaining single. Ultimately, though, things all seemed to have worked out, and Mitakihara's Mighty Musketeers stand strong together... even if one of them is left out of the fun stuff the other two have. "tl;dr" version: Fun Sayakatastic* update. Sorry it took so long for me to respond. I really need to personally put an end to that perplexing procrastination problem of mine... as well as my probable problematic P-word abuse... gah, see what I mean?! After so much distractions and frustrations I can finally give my review to you. I know it's late, but I'll try to make this short and concise as I possibly can. I'm not confident with my choice of words, but I hope you'll find this acceptable. As usual I got Claris playing and I'm ready to rock. Ahem: Spoiler for Magical Kryptonite: When heroes in their part time have nothing to do they just sit back and watch Magical Shows all day and learn life lessons and hardships from it. The Man of Steel and Dark Knight sure were quite amusing to read about taking in the effects of how each respective show affected them. It's nice to see heroes opening up their hearts to really great shows and showing moments of awkward sentimentality. Oh well,great read. A little awkward since I'm a huge Marvel fan compared to DC, but it was funny and amusing to read! Excellent work, dude, I liked it! Okay on to the Sayaka Romance Three Way Roundabout finale! Ahem: Spoiler for Blue and Red Berry Milkshake!: When the Blue haired chivalrous makes a strong impression in front of the gluttonous red lancer, it leaves an inspiring and really cool dramatic impact on the later. It was refreshing reading Sayaka laying the beatdown on the witch adding more to the cool factor that makes up her character. Getting the chance to hear from Kyoko was such a treat considering that we don't hear much from her in the fanfic much. She really adds lots of spunk to the update and her way of describing Sayaka in action was really cool to read. The relationship and choice was really cool and well described on how Sayaka and Kyoko sparked with each other in the fulfillment of the exciting life that Madoka helped our blue haired knight make a decision based off that. The dates, the regular sessions of "release" and the positive outcome that came with it ie. Kyoko believe in humanity and her faith again etc. I really like the idea of Sayaka with the black cape, makes her much more cooler and mysterious. Really great job on the details on that. I really what you did with the "Excitement" aspect of the Sayaka Miki route choice here. Nice work dude "applause"! Spoiler for Banana Cream Pie Mixed With Blueberries.: When things go wrong you can always count on a reliable understudy/student to come to the rescue. It makes this more interesting seem it shows Mami's faith in Sayaka and where her feelings are leaning towards regarding her. Since Mami sort of plays the teacher and the onee-san role it seems that the two of have grown close to the point where their standing don't apply, but still think of the other as equals. The kiss on Mami's Soul Gem was surprisingly romantic and interesting to read. It looks like the two have grown as a pair and as people in general. The narration from Mami really add the necessary feelings and sincerely to the scenery and words presented in the route. As you know, Mami's my favourite girl and hearing her thoughts and having you making it sound so real and creative makes it fun and beautiful to read. The relationship was really wonderful since it explained in detail about the two getting closer and Mami making a family/close lifetime companion. I know I explained this to you, but Mami longs for a family and like with Madoka in the other chain, she found it in Sayaka and her family. Makes me feel all warm inside because I truly love Mami, she's such a fun and lovely character, and cool too. Plus the two of them make sort of the cool calm duo in their own right. The matching hair part was really cute, I like what you've done with that. Excellent work on the "Peaceful" aspect of the Sayaka Miki route choice "standing ovations". With everyone moving forward romantically, Madoka sure is getting the short end of the stick in the 5th that Mami fills in canonically "shudders in disgust". Sayaka gets new love and Madoka is content with that with the hope that she'll get loved in return. With Sayaka moving forward and Madoka still a normal girl, all is right with the world minus the lack of romance of said main character. All is well that ends well, I guess, but it'll all itself out in a special chapter of this... hopefully. Grade Time: Spoiler for Pros: The scenario was fun to read and I enjoyed it to no end. The writing, the growth of the characters and the romance was engaging and realistic. Excellent work on the two romance routes. To be honest with you I couldn't decide on which one I loved the most. So in other words: Both romances get an even tie. Loved them both 10/10 you've earned it. Excellent work dude as always. Spoiler for Cons: Can't think of anything that was wrong with this update. It was perfect in every way, no joke/lie! Phew! I did it! I'm all caught up... hopefully... This has been my review and I hope you like what I've written. I'm still not confident with my words and it took longer than expected because words kept escaping me. None the less, it's done, and I need to give my fingers a break. As I've said before, I read the chapters right away, and my delayed reviews aren't an indicator of lacking interesting, but lacking time and lacking energy... >< On a more positive note, the chapter we're starting off with - Mami Lives Chapter 12 Version I, which neatly enough was posted on my birthday - was nothing short of Sayakatastic. (Thanks Kogetsu ) The basic premise of Homura trying to keep Sayaka from turning into a witch by feigning romantic interest was a fantastic one. I know you were insecure at first and thought the idea might be too weird or out there, but I thought it was a very unique and intriguing premise while still being 100% plausible and in-character, a premise with a great amount of potential and that indeed allowed both characters to shine. All the interaction between Homura and Sayaka this chapter was great. I laughed at Sayaka's "lesbian solidarity" phrase. Poor girl felt so awkward at being alone with Homura like that. The dynamics here between Sayaka and Homura were very interesting. Sayaka's shock and confusion over such a confession coming from someone who seemed no more likely to profess a love for her than Kyubey, Homura's silky smooth seduction technique as she callously plays around with Sayaka's feelings primarily for Madoka's sake ("Forget the violinist and the backstabbing Shizuki" was both cute and sensual at the same time, Homura could sweep anyone off their feet about as easily as a tidal wave could sweep a surfer)... I was equally interested in both girls' every thought process and line of dialogue. The scene at the rooftop where Sayaka accepts Homura's "feelings" was likewise every bit as captivating, and Homura's moody "I'm sorry I'm so hard to relate to..." was a nice link to her original Moemure personality. Granted, Timeline 1 Homura wasn't generally moody, but I could see her pre-trauma self having that kind of girly, moody sensitivity streak to her as a secondary personality trait. Why does Homura prefer to keep her use of telepathy to a minimum, out of curiosity? Moving on to the visit that Mami and Kyouko pay her... ouch, it gets off to a rough start with "Hey, at least you have a dad... that's more than Mami or I can say." >_o Kyouko probably would have hurt her less if she thrust her spear up Sayaka's babymaker. Poor Sayaka... they hadn't been gone for more than 15 or 20 seconds before Kyouko said something that brutal. Ah, and I have an idea for another minigame that takes place during this scene! Minigame 2: Avoid Mami's Tickles. You control Sayaka from a bird's eye view, running away from Mami through the streets of Mitakihara as she attempts to tickle you. If Mami catches you, you gain +2 Affection Points with Mami because she enjoys skinship, but Kyouko thinks you look weak and you lose -1 point with her. If Mami fails to catch you within 60 seconds, you win the game. Mami admires your nimbleness and speed (+1 Affection), wheras Kyouko is outright turned on by your alpha femaleness (+3 Affection). Get to programming, Kimidori. The scene where Mami and Kyouko tried to cheer up Sayaka was very warm and touching... pretty hot too given the strong yuri undertones, but more warm and gentle than anything. For all my frustrations with the human race, I'm still very aware that people can be amazingly warmhearted and generous sometimes, can surprise you sometimes with how much they care about you or how highly they think about you. This scene was a perfect demonstration of that. Hmm, I wonder who I would have picked between Mami and Kyouko had I come across this scene in the Visual Novel... I think Sayaka has more chemistry with Kyouko, but I could see a lasting relationship much more easily with Mami. Sayaka x Kyouko strikes me as an explosive relationship between two girls that care for each other, but would ultimately self-destruct, in large part because Sayaka is more mature and has her act more together than Kyouko does. Decisions, decisions... Next comes Mami Lives Chapter 12, Version II. Man, Homura sure was cold and calculating at the beginning with how she whispered demurely to Sayaka, "Please don't let me down... my love," thinking to herself that she wasn't exactly being the most sincere. I've heard of ice queens before, but Homura is the Ice Queen. The guilt and self-loathing she felt a bit later down the road wasn't entirely undeserved, I have to say. But yeah, the dynamic between Sayaka and Homura continues to be a fascinating one. Sayaka is almost like a puppy in her singleminded adoration and loyalty, and Homura wrestling not just with her guilt, but also with the understanding that she might not be merely pretending to be in love anymore, made for very interesting writing. Sayaka x Homura might have been a pretty brief affair - Madoka is the main character, after all, and her relationships the main focus - but it was a great ride while it lasted, a very lovely feather to add to this story's hat. Minigame 3! Mami flies around in the skies of Mitakihara, avoiding projectiles and attacks from Walpurgis Night as she charges up her magic to participate in the Trio Tiro Finale. Mami is on the defensive here and can't attack, you have to dodge Walpurgis Night's assault for one full minute for Mami to charge up her magic and then join Hitomi and Homura in the assault. Next comes Mami Lives Chapter 12... again... third version of it... ^^; The tangled webs this story weaves can become pretty confusing. The narrative technique used at the beginning with the main speaker swiftly cycling between Kyouko and Mami was very cool, and your talent with creating awesome, horrifically nightmarish Witches shows absolutely no signs of slowing down. Honestly, that Witch would be so terrifying to encounter in real life that I probably wouldn't even be able to bring myself to fight it; the Witches in this story are far more creepy than they ever were in the anime, I'd rather face Walpurgis Night than this monstrosity. I'm glad that Kyouko and Mami were brave enough not to go into a fear-induced coma the moment they laid eyes upon it, though, because this was an awesome fight as usual; the mental image of Mami using her rifle to blow up the witches' explosives is a particularly badass one. Minigame 4! A brutal boss fight against the Witch and her various familiars. There is an FMV cutscene every time one of them changes forms, and once all the familiars are defeated, you fight against the Witch yourself via Sword Art Online-style full-immersion virtual reality. My demands are high, but Kimidori is an amazing programmer. I have faith in her. With the witch defeated, we move along to lighter subject matters, to pastures that are more central to the essence of Pure Pink Pretty Lovers: Sayaka expanding her harem and securing herself some girlfriends. They say birds of a feather stick together, and that must explain why Madoka and Sayaka are best friends: there's no girl in Madoka's harem that hasn't likewise earned a place in Sayaka's. The only difference is that Sayaka is a pure, monogamous saint, wheras Madoka is a naughty, cheating, unfaithful whore (and I love her for it). As I said before, this might be the first time in either the anime or the story that we've ever seen Kyouko become flustered and embarassed... and I would pay good money to see her flip out into a shyly denying rage. Minigame 5! Streets of Rage-style beat-em-up with Sayaka and a computer-controlled Kyouko fighting the common crooks of Mitakihara. And for Sayaka x Mami, the brief glimpse into their relationship proves that they might have more chemistry than I expected, but alas, a brief glimpse is all we're getting here in PPPL. I do have to say, though, that I love the Mami pictures; the second is probably the best picture of Mami I've ever seen. Cute and sexy at the same time, confident and demure all at once (and not just demure, but coming across somewhat as though she's the beta in their relationship). Totally love it. Until next time.

Opinion in the spoilered place. Spoiler for My opinions about that particular route: Ho. Ly. Shit. The last part of the story felt somewhat weaker than the beginning. Mostly because of a villain appearing out of nowhere, and the sudden revelation that Sayaka's father had access to tokusatsu hero powers (Seriously, until it was clear that they were inspired by Tiger and Bunny, I thought he was a Kamen Rider!). And the mention of Jail Scaglietti and Madoka naming her and Sayaka's child Nanoha made me go 'Huh? WTF?'. This made me feel like the series had gone off the rails, but since I like crossovers nevertheless I decided to forgive that fault. I will have to see how the other routes fare, and then I'll make a more definitive verdict. In other news, I think you should update the index a bit more often. It was hard to go around the thread, looking for additional chapters while avoiding being spoiled about other routes (I wanted to get to the end of the Sayaka route before checking others)! And the second youtube link for episode 11 of Mami Alive Sayaka route is dead, by the way. The account that upped it was killed due to copyright infringement. Oh, and I have added the fanfic to the Madoka Magica fanfic recommendations page on TVTropes, so expect some tropers to come here sometime in the future~ Keep up the good work, dear! I love making references to other anime shows/characters that I'm fond of. And some characters I felt would fill useful roles in the story, so I sort of insert them into the story to the point it's a borderline crossover. As much as I love yuri, I didn't want this to be pure romance. I also wanted it to have a fair deal of action. I felt that the Madoka/Sayaka romance needed some added action to "spice it up", hence the inclusion of a new villain and Sayaka's dad being very liberally based on Kotetsu from Tiger and Bunny. I'm curious, TreacherousFox, did you like the core Madoka/Sayaka romance itself? There's a couple weaknesses to it looking back on it now, after thinking more deeply on how Madoka/Sayaka would most believably play out, but I'm still about 80 to 90% happy with that romance. And yeah, one of these days I'm going to comb this thread and fix all the broken links in it. Just so you know, Mami Romance isn't complete yet. The only other route completed is Mami Lives Homura Romance. __________________
