Episode 1:
Eh it was alright, a strange start though tbh for the show's way of presenting mecha warfare with cute girls being the pilots. I honestly felt like there was way too much happening from the first episode though so hopefully they'll flesh out the story. Surprisingly, I also think the show has as really good soundtrack so far.

The audience is frown right into the fray and it's kinda hard to follow what is happening, why it is happening, etc. Anyway, what I got so far is that 12 years ago a bad disaster happened in which Magno Alecto AKA Rena was involved in. I assume she's either an existance that simply doesn't age or something happened during that time that stagnated her physical growth or something? Or she's just doomed to be a loli (I'm a lolicon, I ain't complaining AHEM).
Present day, Rena was able to escape her Regalia operating life, because I guess the late Empress took her in and she became close to Yui as a mere sister. And now for whatever reason the former Regalia organizations are acting again looking to drag Rena into the mess because that Kei girl probably has nothing else to do than dig up the past for whatever reason. Yui is really cute btw., I didn't expect her to be Empress. lol Since the next episode is titled as "Declaration" I am hoping it will do some proper explanation as to what is going on in this world, what kinda politics they have, and etc. Finally, I hope Rena will develop as a character, because I don't want to watch this pattern of "actually strong MC just wants peace but then is forced to show her true powers as she's getting cornered by the oh-so-bad-guy and then power of love/friend/whatever will surely suceed and everyone can smile". Tl;dr Rena shouldn't be so negative about herself and step it up.

Hmm that wasn't too bad. Kind of thrown right in at the beginning, but it does at least raise some interesting questions to start things off.
Is an interesting move as well having Yui be the Empress of this country. Yui herself seems like a pretty solid character. Pretty upbeat in general, but will basically step up when necessary. Not going to take nonsense even if it's from a massive robot . I'd guess that Rena and the others like her are just humanoid cores for these machines. I'm just not sure if they were ever human and then became cores or they were literally biological cores created by/for these machines. Regardless Rena grew up with Yui despite not being biological sisters. One grew and the other of course did not. I kind of liked that Rena was just like "sure, fine I'll go" basically had to be forced to not go along with the villains despite basically being fine with it . Can't really bring the strength out of that machine herself without someone like her sister piloting. The action was pretty solid. I'm curious to see where this things goes.

Those robots look pretty badass. I like that they aren't using CG. That's pretty rate these days. I hope they can keep the quality.
It's a shame Funi's release drops frames during the fight scenes. Some cuts are noticeably choppy. I had to get a raw to see the fights properly.

The first half was a real slog to get through. I like that the girls actually pilot and the battles was fun when they actually started, but there was way too much fluff before after and during and I don't expect that to stop. They just aren't interesting or charming to watch at all.
The angry(robot?) guy picking the fight felt really odd. I want to see the Ogata character in action, though. |
