For me, I've always loved Asemu's OP from the start. Still havent warmed up much to Flit's OP till now. Quite rare for me to watch the whole OP and ED every time I watch a new episode of an anime, which is what I'm doing for the Asemu OP/ED right now.

Unlikely, besides 00's split was announced wayyy in advance even if such isnt required in an anime.

I actually had a similar experience with both of the two AGE openings i.e. I wasn't too keen on them on the first listen (even if I thought that they were alright) but after a couple more times, I just can't bring myself to skip the Opening at all. It's strange since I would normally listen to an an anime opening for at least the first half of it's run before deciding I had enough of it.

The Endings are also very good, in fact I had the better impression of the endings at first. Funnily enough, after episode 24 I just came to realize that the endings were probably about the generation protagonist they were playing in. It's a whole lot more personal for Asem than Flit's even

Spoiler for Lyrics:
Having got my hand on the OST, I can see that the AGE staff had given a lot of thought about the music for the show, so I'm glad to see that they went with the best music that fits with the themes and characters here.

The only explanation I can think of is because "got better" is subjective. On the bright side, the kid's rating seems to have gone up over the last episode.

Thanks, I prefer looking at graphs than raw numbers.

Getting better doesn't necessarily mean that more people are going to watch it. Some may just get tired or fed up after awhile and move on.

Doesn't really work that way. Fan reactions to things rarely have anything to do with actual quality so much as perceived quality and this is especially true in Japan and considering just how desperate people were to hate this series from the get go the damage was already done and probably irreversible. It's just Japanese fans sending the message to companies yet again to never try to change the presentation of anything ever again. Next Gundam series is virtually guaranteed to see the return of the usual AU style design of handsome men and attractive females. Personally I don't give a shit what Gundam looks like as long as I'm enjoying it though....okay not true, I never really want to see Hisashi Hirai designs in a Gundam series again.

This trend does seem to give credence to my theory that the tighter a shows feels written, directed and paced to me the more disinterested or outright hostile fans in Japan appear to be towards it. Honestly I bet they could fix all of this by just having a couple weeks worth of cheesy side stories where they go to the beach on Earth or dress Romary up in a maid custom or something. It'd totally derail the story, but I bet it would get the ratings back up real damn quick.

The curve seems to have stabilised, which to me is a positive sign.

A kids show is all about first impressions. Kids don't go finding shows but settle on one and get all captivated about it. So forget about an upward trend.

So, at least the show's not losing its share of viewers, yet.

I agree with you, to a point. It's fairly obvious that AGE wasn't what the established Japanese Gundam fanbase had been expecting, and that shows in the low level of support from the sales and ratings of the show. Had more of the older fans supported the show, even if it wasn't going to be a smash hit, it would've at least been at least a moderate success. So yes, some of the blame(?) for why AGE is doing badly (or rather, not as well as a Gundam show should be doing) can be placed on the Japanese fandom.

But that only works to a point.

For starters, I don't think we can blame people for not supporting something that they don't like. I know it's really depressing and disheartening seeing a show you like and support not do well, believe me I've been there more than once and even now with AGE (even if I think that there are flaws to it and it's not great, it still does break my heart to not see it do well), but if there are people who refuse to give the show a chance to prove itself or even have given the show a chance but decided to not continue with it, well what can you do? People will buy and support what they like, and will stay away from the things they dislike. The only way this would be a problem is if certain Gundam fans are actively trying to stop people from buying the show, which seems like a very unlikely scenario.

More importantly, remember what was AGE's aim from the start, and why did Level-5 get involved with the project in the first place. Gundam AGE's mission from the start was to attract a new generation of fans into the franchise by repackaging the traditional tropes into a new unique story spanning an entire century in story. While Hino did say that the show was meant more for the family later on, it doesn't change that AGE had always aimed to bring in fresh blood into Gundam and I think this is the reason why we can't realistically place all the fault on the older Gundam fandom since it would've been counterproductive (if the show ends up not striking a chord with kids, but with the same old audience, then the show had done the opposite of what it was meant to do ...).

So sure, the old established fanbase didn't help out, but then again this show wasn't aimed at the older fanbase. It was aimed at a newer fanbase, and AGE was supposed to draw them into the lore, but if the younger viewers aren't interested, then the show isn't doing it's job.

I personally think AGE is a good show, certainly not great since it has it's own share of flaws and facepalm worthy moments, but I never thought that it was at any point bad, so I can't tell you what it is doing wrong that makes it unable to get the kids to watch it. I don't know if it has something to do with the show, it's competition, or if the franchise really is inaccessible to younger fans. All what I can hope is that the show just doesn't get cut.

Yeah, I'm going to side with Nosferatu on this and say that some of the female designs in AGE (Gen. 2 moreso) had been rather pleasing on the eye. Most of them with maybe one or two exceptions have personalities as bland as cardboard, but their designs have been pretty nice.

Well then, since the third Generation is using ZZ Gundam as it's template, I'm glad to see you are Tempting Fate by bringing this up. Get ready folks, the Sea Sea arc is coming up next lol

As for Romary dressing up, well at least she'll be fulfilling the fanservice part of her character, which is another area she hasn't been doing right up till now ...

For everyone who worried with Age rating.I found this.

This is the latest Hero-heroine ranking in anime-Sentai type from the show in Fuji television that on-air today.
You will see that Asemu got 4th ranking.

I mean...although the tv-rating is worse, but look like we got more real love from the fans in 2nd generation here.

I hope you're right. Hopefully Kio arc transition won't drop it further (IE arc transition drop theory).

I have seen some pretty good shows do poorly early on and then get canned regardless of how good they got later on. THe reason is simple, if you start out weak, people lose interest and move on to something else. Good example of this was ABC's Flashforward.
