The strange part about it is why bother saying that now? Was it just to add a bit more drama to that scene? I think the lost mom part already was enough for that. And for it to actually get emotional I would expect at least a really short flashback showing a moment with them together at that episode or even before.

Maybe it would be something that will be used later. Like he actually being alive and maybe part of the DES and being the one who shot his dad, his death being caused by some future antagonist or something. But then that would likely only fit if this season isn't the end.

If Chieri dad really died there (I don't think it was all an act, but he may have survived, Kawamori did do something similar in Frontier), then that raises my expectation that the anime won't end with this season. He was pretty much the antagonist, and the way he died, killed by someone else just before a possible redemption moment give strong "so here comes the real antagonist / final boss" vibes.

Only 2 episodes is too little to bring up a new antagonist, as a good one need some time so the viewers hate grow against them. And even if it's just the DES, now I think we would need to see 00 at least give a decisive blow against them, and it seems we will only get the Akibastar reconquest in those last 2 episodes.

I do think the anime can be satisfying even if it ends with this season. But this episode made me feel even stronger that this anime have enough potential for more that will be wasted if it ends now.

Sono's 180-degree turn seem to have alarmed DGTO, that they decided on assassination to stop him from defecting, and to seize his assets over to the regime.

It is in likelihood that Chieri's mom probably died while trying to give birth to her would-be younger brother.

Would have been fine if the Chieri vs. Mr. Sono confrontation went on without interruption, as both are great characters and I was really curious about the results of their clash. Now I have no idea where the show will go with just two episodes to go, as we basically have "the entirety of DES" as the only antagonists left. The explosion of a galaxy-wide revolutionary movement was always an option with this show, but can they play that right? Either way, I'm sure most people wouldn't be satisfied with "just" getting Akibastar back right now.

If the spoilers are to be believed, the final concert will bring new successions. And I'm pretty sure we'll have a new Center Nova too.
