The episode was kind of decent, though pretty pointless compared to the Iruka mini arc.
The first few minutes were canon stuff from the current arc.

It was a fun watch for me, even those filler parts, I find some scenes funny at least.

Next week, Inari -_-. But the animation looks good O_o

Very Nice episode, canon stuff was great... and the filler material had moments very emotional like the one with Shikaku and Asuma, i get the idea that Shikaku was Asuma's Sensei. Danzo listening Sandaime's chat with the elders was kind of illustrative for the next episodes...

I would have preffered if it was Zabuza/Haku filler next week, not Inari centred.

It appears that these series of episodes are based on the memories of current characters. That would rule out Zabuza and Haku, since they died.

well, the funny thing about this episode is that it's not a fully canon or a fully filler episode, technically, it covered almost an entire manga chapter, so...

It seems that the anime is going to cover bits of the manga with each filler episode. Well I suppose it's not a bad way of going about it.

I rated this one a 10. Despite everything, I actually really enjoyed this episode. Go figure. I never thought I would like any of these fillers, but this one was quite good, in my opinion.

Then again, I had really low expectations to begin with, so that might be why I felt good about this episode.

This episode felt new, and made me forget that it was a filler while watching. I also rated this one a 10 because I was just grinning throughout most of the episode at Naruto's antics >.< And Danzo was interesting too

I kind of like the idea of going part canon and part filler. And as was pointed out, they almost covered a chapter in the manga. At that rate, this arc would fly by. So I can see why they decided this approach for a while. Rather than just a whole filler arc.

The filler is usually good when it sticks to writing for the canon characters and doesn't stray too far from actual manga events. And usually bad when writing for their own filler characters and filler arcs.

The filler right now is suppose to remind why we care about these characters. Which is never a bad thing. Also good to see and hear Asuma again. Very possible that Shikaku was his sensei.

Nah, Sasuke averted it by being his usual asexual self.

And I actually didn't hate young Sakura. I felt sorry for her. And strangely can see why Naruto fell in love with her more than in the manga.

I got that feeling from the conversation about the "King"... and we knew that answer before. Besides, the pattern of the senpai's-> kohai's is there. Sameway Minato->Kakashi->Naruto, you can think in Shikaku-> Asuma->Shikamaru.

Now, i can even think in a friendship between Shikaku and Minato...

Not sure about that...Shikaku seems much older and has a teenage boy while Asuma is just about to have his first kid...Then again, you could also be right.

Well in Narupedia it's stated like this....

Shikaku:
part1: 38
part2: 41

Asuma
:
part1: 27-28
part2: 31

So I don't think Shikaku was his teacher, maybe something like mentor or something else along this lines.
