Didn't know what I got myself into and I must say that I'm very positively surprised, maybe even overwhelmed by how much I enjoyed practically every aspect of it. From the tragic intro scene to the picture book like raising up of Lepard(?), and finally the sad decline of her mother. The atmosphere also felt spot on visually with how depressing and dreary the island looks. I agree with Stark700 that it is somewhat unusual for Kitamura Eri to voice a little girl but it seems to work just fine. I am more than curious to see how they are going to fight their enemies, specifically Lepard who is called Doronjo from now on I assume. All in all a wonderful premiere, can't wait to see those Yattermans get their butts kicked.

Wonderful! Probably the best first episode this season so far. Ends really well too, making the audience wonder what will happen next.
In a way, I feel that there is no need to really use Yatterman's setting, because in a way, this kind of displays Yatterman as the bad side, which can be kind of... meh, but at the same time, it is kind of like, as time passes, the good side becomes corrupted while the bad side repents (maybe?), which is interesting. Anyways, pretty good. Nothing to complain about. I hope the staff keeps it up.

Absolutely brilliant. I've never seen an episode of Yatterman in my life, but they ran with this new (if not original) concept and executed it damn well. Adding to that is the instantly likeable cast of characters, as well as Tatsunoko at their A-game like we haven't seen in a long while. Just going off the first episode alone, there's some great potential here.
Definitely among my favorite premieres as far as these franchise reboots go (I'm remembering how mediocre 009, Saint Seiya, Crowds and Crystal were) and in the top 3 of what I've seen in the season so far. Last edited by com_gwp; 2015-01-11 at 20:05. |

Well, I've never seen anything of the Yatterman before, but this still seemed like it was pretty good. A nice beginning to our first look at this ragtag team of heroes. We'll see where it goes, but it looks interesting enough so far. I'm wondering if the Yatterman were evil exactly or just insensitive? Or did they used to be heroes and are now villains? we'll have to see. I'll stay with this for a few more episodes, see where it goes.

The main girl's VA I think just about killed the show for me. I don't think I can endure that for a whole season. Other than that, pretty harmless but I never really got engrossed into it. Probably again because of the VAing, which just made cringe the entire time.

They were enemies of the country, exiled most likely to die. The family should have told her what being exiled really means.
Then they try to illegally enter the country who exiled them and get mad when the country blows up their ship. Then, they think that their ancestors weren't bad after all because the current generation defended their borders. [sarcasm]Yeah, that' some logical thinking we got here. [/sarcasm] Did they ask the doctor how to transfer someone to a mainland hospital? Nope. What were they expecting the border guards to be? Mindreaders?

After doing a little bit of looking, I see that in the original show, Leopard's ancestors were basically the cheesy "Team Rocket" like villains of the show.
So, basically, to the Yatterman, they would have been villains that deserved to be punished. However, with so much time having passed, the recent generation of the descendants of the thieves are still paying for their ancestors' sins. And are the most recent Yatterman as heroic as their own ancestors? I'm actually interested to see.

On the other hand, I really enjoyed the performance from the two guys. No surprises given that one half is Hiroaki Hirata doing what he does best with the bumbling everyman. |
