Gomen, I did say I'd start putting a 5 minute timer on my responses, didn't I.

Actually, I *should* be working on a website for a school club (scampers away).

Hmm... I see...

The OAV's picture definitely screams "porn," and it's officially named "A Forbidden Time" anyway...What's wrong with the ANN entry was that it says the OAV is based from a manga called Kodomo no Jikan. Strangely 'nuff, even AniDB says the main title is "Kodomo no Jikan."

So... does the porn manga and OAV *mainly* called "Kodomo no Jikan"/"A Forbidden Time"/"Child's Time" really preclude the current "Kodomo no Jikan," thus sharing the same name? Or is it really just a screw-up?

The original japanese name of the hentai title was "Kodomo no Jikan" which was quite randomly translated to "A Forbidden Time" when brought over. (About like The Shadow Chronicles <--- Utawarerumono in odd choices). I'm unaware of any manga source for that hentai.

To be honest, I have no idea why Watashiya chose Kodomo no Jikan for the title of her completely unrelated story unless she was unaware of the title being used before in another medium.
It does really translate as "The Children's 'time/hour/classperiod" and it makes sense for her story, but I guess it shows a bit of cluelessness on her part or her publisher's part not to have done some minor research before titling her manga.

No worries, with my luck I'd still post a split-second too late.

The titles are still different - this KnJ is written completely in hiragana while the pr0ny KnJ is written in a mixture of hiragana and kanji. It doesn't make a difference in English, but it does in Japanese.... I suppose it still causes confusion if you were to go up to the clerk and ask for the title without writing it out though.

Edit: Due to popular demand, Utawarerumono's name was kept "Utawarerumono" when it was released in NA. Ahh, I dislike the overall story, but I love Eruruu. MOU!! <3

Well... maybe that could be one factor to explain why there were so many rabid KnJ flamers some time ago. They did some research and went "HEY! THAT'S PORN!" all over the current KnJ

considering how "deep" they looked into the story i would say that probably would have been the case

Where are you guys gettings these scans? If someone could PM that would be great.
Disapointed to see it cancelled, but I suppose I could get the Japanese version...Of course then I need to learn to read Japanese.
Its always bothered me that people never seem to look into something deeply, try the story, or anything else. One thing that they dont like and -bam- a title dies.

There you go. Originally posted by MakubeX2 a few pages back... and you don't need to learn Japanese for this one. SaHa and Nameless Lolicon Bastards (NLB) are scanlating KnJ

quick edit instead of a whole new post:
Hm... I re-read chapter 28 again just a few minutes ago. This time, I tried not to let myself be overly-dazzled by the two steaming-hot pages found in the chapter. And I asked myself a question: how would the story shape up if the fan-service was totally deleted?

It was actually pretty decent... if not outright good.

Though not groundbreaking, I've got to admit that Watashiya's story is definitely engaging (as any good story should be) and is atypical of shoujo manga. There's the ever-present angst, but the way it's delivered is fresh and eye-opening (not THAT kind of eye-opening... perve XD ).

I would say that Rin, being the main character, has got so many amusing yet dysfunctional quirks that her character *really* shines. She's pretty much original, as I can't find a 100% accurate stereotype to give her. She's too energetic to be a seductress, she's too spicy to be the brainy type, and she's too active to be the angsty type.

How about the energetic stereotype? To be honest, there's something wrong with her brand of 'energetic.' Sure, she loves jumping Aoki like a dog in heat, but the way she does this is not as 'happy' or 'joyous' as other 'energetic' stereotypes. It's like when she picks on Aoki, I can catch the slight glimpse of an expression of pain... like she wants something else from Aoki, not really his genitals or something.

Let me rant n' rave about stuff like this... I do stuff like this for my job, so I see it as practice

Neways, that's just my two cents... for a total of four cents.

Any new news or new chapter scans? I am very intrested in where this is going. And very little has been posted resently on this thread, I keep checking my e-mail in hopes someone has posted something about KNJ, or some new scans. Or some rant about wotever.

I have to admit its my short attention span that is sorta rearing its head. But hey, wot else can I do?

I know, lets start a Pole, My Next post will be a pole!

ALL YOUR KNJ ARE BELONG TO US!!!

*EDIT* How dose one go about createing a pole? *flaunts her nobishness*

chapter 28 is the newest chapter in japan now. You'll have to wait until end of august for chapter 29.

so that means... it's one chapter per freakin' month?
(sorry... I'm not too familiar with the normal release dates of manga chapters. Like I said before: the place I live in is practically devoid of anime (unless you consider pirated/bootlegged copies of fansubs burned on DVD's) and manga.)

Why do I have a really bad feeling about the anime-version of KnJ? If the manga-version shows no sign of an ending, I wonder what the animation crew will do with the anime-version's ending?
(Like I also said before: I *really* hate it when a good anime based off an equally good manga gets a crummy/rushed/unplanned/poorly-thought ending. )

A chapter a month is standard for many manga releases... because that's how often the magazines they're in come out. Its like the comics in the back of Dragon magazine or in PC Gamer. Then later they collect them and release them in volumes.

I suspect the anime version wil focus on the hijinks and slapstick/comedic situations, especially if its a 12 episode series.

Yeah.... anime writers often seem to be fairly incompetent at producing original ending material for anime that have manga-in-progress. I can think of only a few that finished nicely.

Now to straiten out the issue with the name being used for different titles:

I know of a couple of other mangas named Kodomo no Jikan, One, by Akira Gotoh and spelled with "Jikan" in Kanji, is an ero-manga (with an OVA based on it, which is subtitled "a forbidden time") from the early 90s. I've heard it was about a bunch of sixth-grade boys who rape there High School age babysitter in various ways...

The other one I've found is actually a collection of hardcore loli Pr0n by Hikari Hayasabara, and is spelled entirely in kanji...:

TRY to make sure you know which one your talking about when talking to people. Of course, the one people generally get confused with is this one and the Akira Gotoh one...

This, from the SSE blog entry, is the reason for the name change to "Nymphet".

PS: Despite the English subtitle, the Akira Gotoh title was NEVER published in English do to it's shouta content. "A Forbidden Time" was a subtitle used on the OVA releases in the Japanese market.

Just to fog that up a bit (since I currently give SSE almost no credence at all with any information on this series).

There's also the bit of information that the author, Watashiya, insisted on the use of the word "Nymphette" for the english title as what she intended as an obvious reference to the classic book "Lolita" (which popularized the word). She doesn't seem to be well-versed on just how 'poorly read' Americans tend to be these days and in the interviews I've read, she's obviously very unclear about the motivations of the controversy her series generated.

That doesn't contradict the idea that SSE was worried about the confusion though -- it may be that during talks they expressed their concern and the author came up with "Nymphette" as a resolution.

For anyone who's interested in Kodomo no Jikan and understands german, I've written a long article about its controversy in the west and the use of Rin's sexuality and her body.
The first half (until the third b/w scan) is more or less a long defense of the manga against its accusations of being a title for pedophiles, by pointing out several important factors for consideration (mainly the magazine in which Kojika is published and cultural differences).
In the latter half I try to explain that Kodomo no Jikan, as a commercial manga, contains an interesting mix of liberal messages and conservative ones which somewhat undermine the liberal ones. Basically, I try to contextualize the manga with the education in sexual morality which has become prevalent in japan after WWII and its result of how the body of a maiden was seen in Japan until now. How I see it, Rin uses her body against what patriarchy considers as acceptable. She's fully aware of her power as a maiden and uses her body at her own will (as way of getting attention, love and help, but also as way of intimidation). On the other hand, because she's somewhat a threat to the average male (fan) reader, she and the other girls are made cute/stay cute (well.. "moe", you know). The scene in chapter 28 is also an example of how conservative and liberal values clash together: On the one hand Mimi uses her body for something patriarchy in Japan doesn't allow (---> lesbianism), on the other hand she kind of fulfills a nurturing role for Rin.

Sounds fascinating, I know just enough German to take a crack at it (though I'll probably resort to Babelfish or some equivalent at points).

Tatakae, any chance you'll translate it in the future? It sounds very interesting.

I'm too embarrassed to ask either of the two people I know who knows German...

Maybe I'll translate it in the weeks to come, but my english skills are rather weak and I should stay focused more on my master thesis

wie kann man so viel darüber schreiben
naja, ich hab momentan keine lust ,das zu lesen

kodomo no jikan is much more than just "service" (I think I would like it even if I wasn't a pedophile ) and service itself is often seen as rather funny, not as sexual..
it shows how far this girl is willing to go,nowing everything but still nothing
and of course she nows that with aoki being a virgin he WILL react to what she's doing... and that's what she wants

Well, I know it's a long article, but if ever it should honestly pick up your interest and you'll have read it entirely, tell me/us about what you think of the point I'm getting at. That would be far more interesting to hear than only "well, I'm not in the mood to read it right now" (I know you used a smiley, but still ...)
