Other than manga/games/LNs/etc, what'd make a good anime?

Uh, hope there's not another thread like this somewhere out there already, but...

So I was reading the Iliad and I thought to myself, "This sort of reminds me of Sengoku Basara (the anime, not the game, haven't played the game)." Now, obviously the Iliad came first, but anyway there were certain similarities that made me think, "This'd make a pretty cool anime."

For example, both shows are set in wartime and have these hero-type characters who seem to be able to take down entire armies by themselves, who call each other out for duels and whatnot, and there's the whole strong sense of heroic honor, how even if they're technically on opposing armies, the characters can have respect for one another, so on and so forth. So I'm thinking, you take the Iliad, throw in some crazy over-the-top special effects and animation, lots of bellowing war cries and GAR and manly tears, and you got yourself a pretty awesome anime.

So basically, outside of the usual sources for anime adaptations, what do you think would make a good anime?

A Nintendo video game.
Does that count as out of the ordinary? Since so few of them ever come to light?

I think Sophocles's Oedipus trilogy would be awesome to see animated. It has a good story, a plausible amount of twists that doesn't make it unbearable (see: every movie M. Night Shyamalan made after Signs), and realistic characters.

A very good point indeed, for I too would love to see a Nintendo videogame made as an anime

Nah, Mario had his turn. On both sides of the Pacific.
It's just that there are so few Nintendo anime, and most of those few phail (like the Fire Emblem anime/OVA thing. It wishes it was Advent Chidren, but nope). I say they make one from one of their more emotional games.

given the title names everything you would expect animes to be made from only thing I can think of that could make for good anime is musicals!

Now I'm big fan of a good musical and I think it would be pretty interesting to see a anime of a musical, be it original or not

Unlike Seinfeld, which makes you hate your fellow human beings by wallowing exclusively in the negative side of humanity, watching Lucky Star is actually an emotionally healthy and fun experience that leaves you with a genuinely happy grin, rather than the twisted hateful snarl better fitting on the ugly face of a pathologically-sarcastic failed comedian like the present Seinfeld in real life.

The same applies to Azumanga Daioh; with the exception of the psycho bitches Tomo and Yukari, these girls are actually decent human beings you can laugh with, not at.

I would mutilate some extremely adorable things to see Phillip Pullmans "His Dark Materials" trilogy made into an anime. The movie failed, miserably - Though it would be possible to make a good movie adaptation.. just very difficult. Also, (maybe just me), a vivid and colorful animated adaptation of the books might suit it better than a live-action one. Meh.. but thats never going to happen since the movie sucked so bad .. shame, it really was a great set of books..
