Maybe we can chalk it up to Luffy subconciously using Haki.

Even with haki, luffy shouldn't be able to defeat a legend.

Thats just taking the piss, imo.

I bet it would have been cooler if Shiki could make humans fly that would have made the ultimate battle for Luffy, but this could have been done likely if it took place after the events in the manga

Actually I don't really like the one

the story is a little bit simple
without touching plot
and the fighting scenes are quite as usual

It is a little waste of the wonderful background of this movie.

I thought the movie was great! Does anyone think it's about time the anime starts to bring the crew back together. I kinda wished for them to be apart of this last arc.

^ Indeed. Luffy beating Shiki was retarded. Makes no sense AT ALL. But the good thing is that the film showed why Shiki was a legend. The Fuwa Fuwa no Mi is one of the best abilities seen thus far; and prior to his defeat, he took out the monster trio (Luffy, Zoro, & Sanji), Ussop, and Chopper, in one attack. Unfortunately, since this was a movie, they had to come up with a lame/implausible way for Shiki to lose. Good guys must win, after all.

Still trying to figure out where this fits in the canon.

Between Thriller Bark and Sabaody is the only "free time", but

1) Luffy isn't wearing his braclet
2) No mention of Zoro's injuries
3) Brook mentions his "first real act" as a Strawhat is drowning and how shameful it is.

There's nowhere else to set it though, unless we get into time travel bullshit. Oda went out of his way to tie it in, why did he make major omissions like this?

Granted I've only seen the anime so the Brook quote may not be an issue. But the other two are hard to reconcile.

1) Luffy probably stashed his bracelet when relaxing at Spa Island and rescuing Little East Blue from Largo (pre-cursor to the movie)
2) Zoro's injuries from Thriller Bark were probably small potatoes before the events of Spa Island, Little East Blue, and movie 10.
3) Brook might have mentioned it at Spa Island since he recently joined.

At least that's how I think it fits.

I think it's gonna be quite awhile before that happens... I mean, they haven't even done the other 8 movies yet. All we got was The Desert Princess and the Pirates, and that was faaaaar before we even had Season 1 First Voyage.

I finally got around to watching Episode 0 of Strong World. One interesting thing I noticed was the actions of Buggy on Gol D. Rogers' ship. He exactly resembles Usopp in action, speech, and cowardice. If that is any true indication, Usopp might be the eventual successor to Buggy.
