Serious, everyone know that extremely pushy upbring is bad. Kids need to have fun, need to learn how to form their own opinions. On the other hand, they also need discipline and an education. Lots of the posters seems to advocate hand-off education in some extreme fashion, which is as bad as the mothers who smothering their children's free life by pushing them too hard.

Anyway, emphasize on education is part of Confucian doctrine. This can be seen from the first few verses of 三字經 [Sanzi Jing], which maybe considered as the standard "introduction to Confucianism" taught to 5 years old or younger for a few centuries.

養不教
父之過
教不嚴
師之惰

To feed without teaching,

The answer to this is to destigmatise adoption, specifically, putting up a baby for adoption. Specifically, like the French right to anonymous birth (accouchement sous X) set down in the French Social Action and Families Code (Art. 222-6).

Even Malaysia has one.

This will circumvent abortion as a whole.

@Zephyr: It's an excellent solution if your country has an institutionalized and efficient care system in place. Medicare doesn't cut it, to be completely honest. Orphans in the US don't sound like they're given all the tools needed to succeed, even disregarding their handicap. The change can only really come in place with some sort of extra safety net in regards to their education.

Heh, a Swedish model in the US? That would be utopian.

But yeah, when your system is geared to provide the best healthcare to the top earners, the future of orphans and kids that would be born under anonymity would certainly be uncertain.

You see, that's why the American Dream (myth) is a massive failure: everyone aspires to be at the top of the economics ladder - and those at the top are regarded as heroes, and the poor protect them (Tea Party, anyone?).

What is needed is to heavily tax the top earners - but not by increasing marginal tax rates, but increasing the rungs on the ladder. In fact, a step-staircase isn't working, so I suggest a continuous curve.

Two things, though.

1) In the US, any attempts to tax the rich will be nicely countered by the rich themselves. This was pointed out by Robert Kiyosaki himself. They lobby for tax loopholes, move their capital abroad and so on. It is a cat-and-mouse game, and I don't trust the taxman to improve its game.

2) Swedish model = high taxes. Again, as Robert pointed out, the rich tend to know how to save on their taxes, so the increase end up affecting the middle class.
