Hmm... I had much to disagree with that 2ch ranking list. Back when I saw it, I got the strong impression that people were voting songs based on the series they came out of. Frankly, no matter how you put it, Cruel Angel's Thesis is simply not a song which deserves the top spot. The melody is average, vocalization uninspiring, and orchestration bland. The fact that it belonged to one of the most influential animes of the last decade shouldn't give it a free ride to the top. Maybe I'm missing the point of the thread and that poll, but I feel we should judge music on the music alone.

Back to suggesting...

Polyphonica - Apocrypha (OP)
Ichigo 100% - Ike Ike (ED)
Kannagi - Motto☆Hade ni ne! (OP)
Kanokon - Koi no Honoo (ED)
Mai-Hime - Chiisa na Hoshi ga Oriru Tok (Not Sure)
Inukami - Hikari (OP)
Pandora Hearts - Parallel Hearts (OP) and Maze (ED)

It's not only 2ch that lists Cruel Angel's Thesis at the top. It's either no. 1 or near the top spot in most of the top of lists I encountered, most of which are Japanese-based, probably giving merit to the argument that the series lifted the status of the song. In western countries, where all things anime are not as ubiquitous, the alternative to Thesis as No.1 song is Tank! from Cowboy Bebop, whose accompanying soundtrack is heaped with praises from music critics. If I were to rank the top song today, I'd be stuck with the problem of which of these songs to place at #1.

Extra: Found another youtube clip counting down the best anime songs by a Japanese TV station. The broadcast looks old which pretty much explains the absence of Cruel Angel's Thesis at or near the top. 13 of the 15 songs in the video are in the hall of fame.

I just registered and saw this amazing thread, there're many great songs in this list, and I wanted to suggest one:

"Shangri-La"
by Angela
Soukyuu no Fafner(TV)
Opening Theme #1

2004

Spoiler for video:

oroka de ii no darou
miwatasu yume no ato sayonara
aoki hibi yo

nagare ni mi wo makase itsuka otona ni natte yuku
sukoshizutsu yogorete yuku koto na no?

jukushita kajitsu dake erabarete
Naifu de sakarete nomikomareru mae ni

bokura wa mezashita Shangri-La yokubou wa osaekirezu ni
kuusou ni mamireta "jiyuu" wo motometsudzuketa
ima nara ieru darou koko ga sou rakuen sa
sayonara aoki hibi yo

This song ranked 29 out of 100 in a countdown created by 2-channel users (I believe it's a famous japanese forum)

Here's the full list:

Spoiler for video:

(This videos are 2 years old that's why there isn't any new songs in it, if I find a newer version I'll post it)

PD: Sorry if the countdown is a repost.

@space cowboy:
You can find the updated list of songs included in the hall of fame in my first post at page 1. Berserk's "Tell Me Why" is included in the list. Songs included here are opening themes, ending themes and insert/background songs. Image songs or Character songs are not included unless they are incorporated in the anime itself.
@christinemarie:
Thanks for the Current Top Ten Gendou Anime Songs Overall rating, the Gendou website is a great source of information on anime music. If anyone has information of any anime music best of lists or countdowns please do share.
@Tyranus, thanks for the 2ch video, I think the earlier post by christinemarie is the latest 2ch ranking as of May 21, 2008. The 2ch list was one of the inspirations for the birth of this thread. Here's the full list

@ CuXe: I think it has something to do with the music style of TM Network that's definitely 80's.

@christinemarie : I'm actually a big fan of the soundtrack of Gintama, Donten included, as well as the anime. Rest assured Donten will be in next week, thanks for reminding me, I don't know why I passed up on your suggestion. Nonetheless, a song from a series earlier inducted doesn't mean it's the superior one.

@space cowboy. OMG! Thank you so much for pointing out my huge mistake... my bad. Yeah, I meant "euphoric field". I feel like a douche. hehe
