It was even more funny in the fact that nobody actually cared what gundam they tried to kill, it was as if any gundam would be fine.

It looks more like... a mobile armor from Gundam. No arms, but not all MA had them. Think "aerodynamic Big-Zam".

I doubt it was designed to be compat capable, most likely just an early prototype for a variable form system.
