Portables are having a very hard time because of SmartPhones.

It just happens that the 3DS is not directly competing with SmartPhones, while the VITA's target audience is a bit too close to SmartPhone territory.

Especially with more and more Japanese developers moving on to social gaming.

Well damn I was going to buy Vita if I was to get one of the portables. Now I should consider making a switch. Still it'd be nice, if they could release it on Vita. Honestly, I'm not a big fan of button schemes of 3DS.

It looks to me like this game is set in the same time-frame as the first two SMT games - the blue outfits seem to be the same robes the followers of the Messian Church wore.

Or it could be post-apocalyptic Earth that crawled back up to a medieval setting. There was a shot of a high-tech looking bracelet that might be a COMP.

Ah ha ha, with the Vita's numbers? Not happening.

Eh, Mesian colors were primarily white with light blue, while these guys are opposite.

The graphic looks pretty delicious, the art though... Can't say I'm too happy with Doi instead of Kaneko.

I thought this was an action RPG for second when the protagonist attacked first enemies.

Anyway, looking pretty good. Probably the best looking Atlus title so far, dethroning Catherine and P4. It also seems like time-traveling is definitely involved and will likely be intertwined with both the plot and gameplay.

Ho ho, it looks like there are multiple rows of demons during battles, judging from the trailer.

It also looks like there are no random encounters. Also, looks like human partners seem to be back, judging from Walter being on the bottom screen along with the MC and the demons at around 1:27 on the trailer.

more info on this game

Some pretty interesting stuff in the SMT4 scans from Famitsu this week:

- Characters are designed by Doi, as expected, meh
- Meguro is not doing the soundtrack, Ryota Kozuka (???) is
- No Kaneko
- New demons are all designed by designers from various Kamen Rider and other similar type of Japanese live action stuff
- Main character isn't voiced! Yay
- Some of the battle graphics do look very much improved from Strange Journey, but it's still weird
- I think I see something that looks like a world map, but it might look like some sort of location selector like in SJ too.... not sure
- The story is set in some post-Tokyo-fucked-up-bigtime future, where Tokyo as we know it has fallen into darkness and the demon invasion is spreading
- The main characters are "Samurai" from Mikado of the East, a country where the Samurai wear gauntlets equipped with the Demon Summoning Program to fight demons

I've seen some designs for the new demons, they're actually pretty cool They still use some older demon designs in this game even without Kaneko in it, right?

Looks like the original SMT wheelchair guy is back. I'm rather glad to see Steven return. Makes the game feel even more like a mainline SMT game.

Uncut TGS Trailer:

EDIT: Also, something interesting in the main site's information page. Kaneko is credited with drafting the game's scenario.

Those details sound really nice, but I'm still not a fan the of "first person" battle style it's using. =|
