WTF.. Disbelief .. no longer suspended. Come on, credibility just fell through right here, why the hell are diplomats not being sheltered at a hotel close to the government buildings? 500 yen for lunch? What kind of crack is the author smoking? There are tons of very nice hotels in Nagatachō specifically for this purpose. I stayed at one myself! It was full of government officials and visiting people from other countries! Common sense!?

Because they are not there, because they are being careful to not even show a hint about the importance of these people, after all Japan might isolate himself of the world should the benefits of the other world be sufficient enough.

Unless youre refering to Rory, Leilei and Tuka, and in this case they are more like tagging along as witnesses and not as diplomats.

Besides even Itami didnt know the princess was coming with him

Yeah, the latter part mentioned that technically the princess and her companion aren't even supposed to be there, so obviously the budget wouldn't be as high as if it were an official visit by a diplomat.

Given the after-chapter notes, Itami's actual posting is MUCH more dubious, I think.

Yeah.. but even if they changed their minds to accommodate them after, they still had a meeting with the Prime Minister's aide and the Foreign Affairs Minister. There's no way that the approval for their visit didn't go through official channels after they requested it. As a person that's been through a ton of bureaucracy, there's no way in hell that it's so casually conducted in Japan. No way. Impossible. They were on government business so there would have been more escorts and aides, etc. for sure. Is the author not familiar with the workings of such I wonder?

The author is a JSSDF reservist, but I'm not really sure if he has any experience on the actual political side of things. I think a bit of what we're seeing is author's fiat via extrapolation or second-hand research.

Heck, the fact that Pina is bunking with Itami's ex-wife (who as of last chapter was complaining that she had neither food AND that her electricity was about to be cut off) should be clue enough that things are pretty unusual.

Pretty sure even if their visit is official they still have to keep it a secret from foreign country. If other country know that princess from the empire pay a visit to Japan there could be all sort of trouble.

Also it goes without saying that most likely plenty of Japanese citizens who wouldn't take to kindly to the news that one of the leaders of the nation that attacked them will be walking around.

^ None of what anyone has said changes the fact that 1) they would never house them at one of their random officer's ex-wife's apartment and 2) they wouldn't have them randomly eating at a cheap lunch place for curry rice (or, actually, just randomly wandering around shopping for clothes)

In fact, it's much more likely they would have kept it much more secret and discreet, by having them be transported around by black town car and sequestered in a government secured hotel.

Anyways, it's obvious the author took liberties here randomly so he wouldn't have to describe these details or he's just unfamiliar with these procedures, I'm fine to move on -- I just wanted to point out the logical slip as I find it jarring.

You do realize the number of people that would then have to be in on this if they went this route, which leads to the secret getting out much more so than just having only a handful of people knowing about their stay.

Plus as we all know they can blend in abit easier if they aren't surrounded by hordes of security and sorts, they could just pass as simple cosplayers

And nothing arouses more suspicion than a blacked out saloon.
