Server reboot time, no doubt.. or maybe the database needs to be re-indexed. Just write the administrator and note the errors.

This is an interesting little piece of flashware...... though the page turning eventually got me into a "where's the snap button, funs over" mood.

Really like the idea though..... just would like some way to insta-flip pages (or is there a way and I missed it)?

Yeah same problem as Vexx in the same "where's the snap button, funs over" mood too. Other than page flapping everything looks very ice indeed.

@Vexx:
it's currently not implemented. but i'll try and look into it for future volumes. other than that i think you'll just have to live with flipping for the time being.
so sorry. haha.

@Rayzor:
i don't think i'm doing the pdf (because like when i started with the eBook, i have no clue at all how to put it together). someone else might be though. probably seaghyn! *points*

Nice work, barbs! My only complaint though is the inability to turn instantly to any desired page (unlessed I missed that function somewhere).

Anyway, I've been making some good progress on my part as well, so the rest of chapter 4 Vol. 4 should be up sometime in the next few days. What remains is just four pages to translate and editing, which will take longer than usual because of the size of the section.

The "book" simulation is actually pretty clever -- it just lacks some knobs that would fully simulate a "book" (speed of turn, ability to set a bookmark, ability to jump to a specific location).

yeah judgment, only jumps chapters. i assume that most people read by chapter anyway so to those who don't i am so sorry.

the bookmark thing is something everyone mentions. i'll try to get that done for the next volume (once we translate it of course).

school just started and everything is quite hectic so i guess ill start translating chapter 1 tomorrow.

Judge, you completely and totally rock! Kudos

Um, out of curiosity, is it at all known how many light novels there will be in the end?

*sigh* I'd love this if it had a nice ending, but that isn't very likely. Hopefully the journey will continue to be a pleasant one until the very end.

There's not a listed total of novels.... but the pair is getting closer to their eventual destination of Horo's homeland. So unless they get diverted or arrival at her homeland is simply "Stage 1" then it'd wrap up in a few more books.

I'm giving it even odds at the moment as to whether the ending is "happy" (in that transient sort of happy ending) or "bittersweet" (how everything eventually plays out over time).

The tenth novel was just released. Some speculate 12 novels, maybe 13.

I see. Thank you for the quick replies.

I think I could deal with what the author does so long as it isn't incredibly tragic. Since the idea of beings like Horo and normal people becoming paired together are quite commonplace, an ending of that sort doesn't seem too out there. The only wrench is that Lawrence would eventually die of old age (or perhaps quite young given the life expectency back then which I seem to recall not being too high), but even that need not be too sad. My hopes aren't very high at all though.

Quite a while ago, I said this might compare to the saga of Aragorn and Arwen in LOTR. Beautiful love story.. but tragic. I hesitate to hope for an extremely happy ending (like even just them heading off on the road again) because asian literature just seems to love those 'bittersweet' and 'tragic' endings just to drive home that all things end. Transience is the only permamence.

Someone brought up the idea that Lawrence would help Horo have offspring who might be long-lived as well so she wouldn't be alone. That's one sort of 'bittersweet' ending; another is that she simply chooses to end her life when his ends. I can think of a few movies or stories that explore these sorts of things between 'immortals' and 'mayflies' but I don't want to spoil them for anyone.

Now that you mention it, I can see the LOTR in that. Although I've when it comes to bittersweet, Beren and Luthien take not just the cake, but all cakes since the First Age.
