TBT OVAs used to be a very special kind of anime, with better than usual animation, story, etc. Nowadays half of them are unaired chapters of an anime, which is not bad, I liked this "OVA", but many people still expect something above the level of the original animation when they hear the word OVA.

Blame this to falling broadcasting values that have dropped so much that old-school OVA are even "pre-airing" these days. Let's not forget that late-night anime are practically promos!

Still there are OVA releases that beg to differ, (some hentai aside) there are a couple of quality releases like Hellsing and Black Lagoon.
