If they somehow make it into the Anime Grand Prix despite the challenge of Frieren and Demon Slayer, Kira could somehow make history and tie with Lelouch.

Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Freedom novel, by Liu Goto. Chapter 3 and end of vol.01:

TL;DR…
tidbits for vol.1 ch.3
Sorry; dynamic content not loaded. Reload?
Afterword:
- Work on the novelization started in 2019, four years ago.
- Illustrations are by Tomofumi Ogasawara.
- Volume 2 to be released on March 26.

That should be the first half of the movie, so I suppose vol.2 will be enough to cover the back half of it.

Neat. Thanks for the info. Does the afterword elaborate on the original writer passing away or the director's comments?

He only mentions Morosawa in passing, when he said he reviewed the plot she left behind.
Aside from that, the novel was a foray in screenplay writing, which he wasn't familiar with, but he was able to pull through with the "guidance of the director and producers". The feedback apparently ran both ways.
He does mention that when he was writing for the SEED television series, he found inspiration in foreign dramas he admired, especially those made by sci-fi authors. He also jokes that it's making him feel old, seeing how he's coming back to SEED after two decades.

Also, he specifies that at the time he was penning the afterword, he had yet to watch the completed movie.

Thanks again for writing all that out (or even just copying it if it came from elsewhere). This has been great to read.

I summarized the English fan translation and added a few comments of my own. Not gonna risk posting copyrighted stuff here.

Also, according to the translator (Deacon Blues, who is/was a member of this forum back in the SEED/Destiny heyday), there are movie scenes that Liu Goto omitted in his novel - unspecified for now.
There is, by the way, a second Freedom-related official novella ("Week 1 Attendee Special Gift A", I believe) - a sequel to the movie, featuring a date between Athrun and Cagalli and shedding light on their relationship - that hasn't been translated yet.

Also: check your PM inbox.

Wait. Wasn't the movie two novels long? Is Week 1 a third novel or a sidestory within one of the novels?

Two novels and two Week 1 Attendee Special Gifts.
- Vol.1 (already on sale) and 2 (to be released on the 26th of this month) cover the movie itself. Since vol.1 concluded with the destruction of Archangel, it is safe to presume that vol.2 will be enough to cover the second half of the movie.

The two "Week 1 Attendee Special Gifts" were novellas gifted to the first moviegoers, not available for sale afterwards.
- Special Gift A (dunno the working title) takes place a couple of months after the events of the movie and revolves around Athrun and Cagalli trying to have a date despite the trappings of their respective positions; it elaborates on their complicated relationship and essentially cements the AxC ship.
- Special Gift B is the Moonlight Valkyrie novella, which is a prequel to the movie and explores the relationships between Shinn, Luna, Rey and Agnes and their past at ZAFT Academy. Mostly Agnes-centric.

Saw Seed Freedom last night, thought it was a fun popcorn movie and satisfying conclusion to CE (much moreso than Destiny).

"Conclusion"

They're just getting started. No way will Bandai and Sunrise not try to capitalize on all the success. Be it a new TV series, or another movie, or hell even a sequel manga, Cosmic Era is making a return.

Could take some time. But I strongly believe this isn't over.

You say that but Bandai also never capitalize on WFM's incredible success (in terms of making more anime of it) as we speak right now. That's a lot of money they left on the table. Instead, they're pursuing the Gundam Metaverse project that cost a hundred+ millions of dollars that nobody asked for.

So yeah, Bandai's decision can be a real mystery sometimes.

there's already a prequel OVA reportedly in the works (as in storyboards, script complete). plus Fukuda along with the film producers have teased what the status of the characters are after the movie.

Do we know what the budget was for Seed Freedom? I am curious as to exactly how much of the gross has been profit. In America movies have to make back, I think 3x their budget to break even.
