This anime is all about anime cliches: tsundere, magic, school. But it's still worth watching because of one question "how come she summoned a human as a guardian?", eh?

ps: don't go crazy over this anime now, there's plenty to go around now.

You've just described 80% of all anime out there, by using the term cliche.

What's important is the execution, and this one pulls it off very well.

This is a very important point and I'd like to emphasize it. Anime is popular entertainment, which works by playing variations on familiar and emotionally effective cliches. We usually see the cliches in the genres that we don't like, and talk about originality when we see minor variations appearing in the genres we do like. For instance, just about all mecha seems like a huge cliche to me, whereas shoujo seems like a cliche to many other people. Successful works like Zero combine effective variations with satisfying exploitation of the main cliches.

If you want to get down to it:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Romeo_and_Juliet
Quote:
A common misconception is that the plot of Romeo and Juliet was invented by Shakespeare. In fact, his play is a dramatisation of Arthur Brooke's narrative poem The Tragicall History of Romeus and Juliet (1562). Shakespeare followed Brooke's poem fairly closely but enriched its texture by adding extra detail to both major and minor characters, in particular the Nurse and Mercutio.

Brooke's poem was not original either, being a translation and adaptation of Giuletta e Romeo, by Matteo Bandello, included in his Novelle of 1554. This was in turn an adaptation of Luigi da Porto's Giulietta e Romeo, included in his Istoria novellamente ritrovata di due Nobili Amanti (c. 1530). This was the version that gave the story much of its modern form, including the names of the lovers, naming the rival families to the Montecchi and the Cappelletti, and shifting the action to Verona.

The earliest known version of the tale is the 1476 story of Mariotto and Gianozza of Siena by Masuccio Salernitano, in Il Novelino' (Novella XXXIII).

Of course, a skilled writer can make even a plain seeming premise into an interesting story. And a bad writer can make a hash of an excellent premise...

Hmm... there seems to be only 1 ep3 raw (bad quality raw that is) out there, despite the show being aired several days ago. Did something happen?

Does anyone else thing the sound of "Kirche" seems way off from "Kyuruke" ?

Is "Kirche" supposed to rhyme with "Birch" and "Lurch" ? Ugh, Not a sexy name.

Kyuruke is better.

I suppose so. It has its intresting factors that is unique to it. Overall it's really enjoyable, and it seems that she has already become attracted to him already. ^_^

Wow! Ep 3 was a blast! When the credits rolled I was all "Awwww. It's over already?". This is when you know that you like a show.

Saito has more than mere passive perversive tendencies. I didn't expect that

Louise is such an awesome character. Love how she stammers when she's irritated !

Damn, regretting that we're only getting 13 eps of it..

yep the same way im regretting haruhi is only 14eps long. buuuut!

if we show lots of interest, there might be a second series!

After all there is eight light novels worth of it.

But if they don't oh well, at leased i get to read it...in English. Handy, being part of a Translation group....

the episodes are just getting better and better; and I'm falling in love with Saito more and more

and a brutal sadistic Louise (lol at the whip) didnt even bother me. I usually tend to despise those characters; but Louise is an exception.

looking forward to the next ep featuring Siesta! woohoo!

Yeah I'm not into the loli tsundere usually (disliked Shana especially! Well, from the eps I've seen so far), but Louise cracks me up. The Louise/Saito relationship has a lot of back-and-forth chemistry, unlike many anime couples I've seen lately.

@Onizuka-GTO
I hear ya! SHnY however I see the presence of a second season as a question of time (after Kanon and FMP sequel probably), whereas ZnT I wonder if it will gather enough support to persuade the sponsors.
