The church in toaru do oppose magic, but at the same time they need to have a force of their own to fight other magicians, hence it's a 'necessary evil'. The Battle Nuns of the RCC are viewed the same way.
Trivia, those magics that are 'acceptable' to the churches are labelled as 'miracles' heh.

So, I see so many complaints about fanservice that when I finally watch the episode I expect to see Agnese gainaxing all over the place and Orsola boob grabs. What do I get? A couple fanservice scenes at the very end of the episode. I mean, really? That's what all this "FANSERVICE IN MEH INDEX" is about? lol. Not to mention it's from the original material, and every single scene has an illustration for it. Really, people need to calm down and stop jumping the gun. I mean, you fucking see the action in the PV.
Anyway, the episode overall was a great adaptation, and put to rest any fears I had that J.C.Staff would turn Index II into Shana II. They stuck extremely close to the novels, and only moved up some fanservice scenes involving Agnese (which I have no problem with, since it just leaves more time for action and plot). The pacing was definitely fast in comparison to last season, but wasn't everyone complaining about the pacing being too slow last season anyway? I think they struck the right balance this episode. For the most part, this was just an exposition episode, so 7/10.

IIRC, the director said that he won't do anything outrageous.
Kazuma only put fanservice in these few volumes. Well, this is another obligatory intro episode for an Index arc. can't wait for the fight. I like how the magicians dress like ordinary citizens. Granted, those were the canon fodder, but I hope well get to see some of them in action. |

I would've liked to of seen more from the last episode- the kidnapper and his girlfriend- like how did the curse look like when it was taken off. Or something along those lines. Guess I'll have to wait until the lightnovel is translated.

I kind of had a couple of random thoughts near the end...
Why does Touma's mind immediately jump to Index being the one under the blanket with him? More importantly, why is he not blushing furiously until AFTER he realizes it's not Index? Repeat offender there it seems! |

There are a couple levels of "wrong" going on with some whiners here....
First, people are complaining about fanservice in this anime. (key word being "anime") Seriously? "Boo" when there's fanservice in anime? How often is there not? Then, people are complaining about fanservice in Index. Have we not been watching the same Index series? On top of that, there are people complaining about the fanservice when it came straight out of the novel. Aren't the whiners usually people who say the anime doesn't follow the novels well enough? So now it's bad when the anime sticks to the novels like white on rice? So were we reading the same novels at all? On top of that, they're acting like this is/calling this excessive fanservice. a) Have you ever seen any other anime at all, and b) again, were we reading the same Index novels and watching the same Index series? Nothing new here in any way. Anyways..... Very nice episode. Nothing horribly exciting, but you always need a setup episode with lots of talking unless you want all that plot-talk to be brought up in the middle of the fighting with all the standard exposition. And a good thing for fast-moving episode, because it means we get to the action sooner. And if I didn't make it clear enough, the fanservice didn't kill anything for me. 8/10

Index is for all intents and purposes the Gandalf of the Fellowship: She may not bear the strength of arms to get the job done, but she provides the most-vital information without which the warriors would not be able to get the task done.
Its often overlooked because of how small and cute she is, but Index's ultimate weapon is her mind.

Did you guys not realize that despite having 250(?) nuns under her command, she still can't do anything against the Amakusa if not for Index giving intel about their enemy.
Index = Chuck.

The fanservice was never a problem whatsoever. But it was a little funny ( and off-pacing ) to have three fanservice moments sequentially without much context to it, other than FUKOUUUUUUUUU DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA.

Besides, with this being introductory as it is, with the establishment of the 'hero cast' villains and just a 'rough understanding of what is going on', there's really not that much to discuss. Unless we want to talk about how the history of actual Amakusa Christians establishment and the relevant links to how they hide their religion through Virgin Mary's statue being made to look like Guanyin-ma, or the author of the 'Book of the Law.'

It might have been something like for me but it still was annoying because it was more shown to sexually gratify. |

Index getting stripped stark naked by IB is nothing more than "sexual gratification." Aisa showing cleavage when she pulls a nightstick out of her shirt is nothing more than "sexual gratification." Several female characters being shown throughout the series in varying states of undress is nothing more than "sexual gratification." Etc, etc. All I'm hearing is excuses to whine about fanservice, when fanservice has been here in Index since the beginning of the novels, and in no way is the taste in fanservice any different than it's been since episode one. If you don't want to see "sexual gratification" fanservice, you should've gotten the message in episode one that this series is not for you. Nor is almost any anime, for that matter. It's been over 10 years since anime has turned towards being fanservice based. I'm shocked some people haven't gotten the message yet.
