Which part are you talking about the ass kicking or the romance bit? Wasn't this in part of the description Eleutheria got from a website:

Kazuma was born in the fire-user tribe, but lost to Ayano when he was 18 years old, and her 12, over control of the legendary sword of the tribe. Banished to a foreign country, he contracted with the spirit of the wind, becoming the only wind user in the world.
But when he returns to his native country four years later, there are coincidentally a spate of murders within the fire-user tribe, and Kazuma is accused of the crimes. Is he, who has a grudge against the fire tribe, guilty? He certainly has the motive...

The romance bit well looks like the typical shonen type of thing to have this two characters to have some sort of romance going on. See the first page some of the covers of the manga hint those two will get it on at some point.

Her loli powers kicked in I suppose. For those who don't know its the abilility of a 12 year old or younger girl to have powers that no one that age should have, making them unstoppable death machines. I can't think of any examples other than that girl from Saikano right now that may not even be as young as she appears, but there are other examples. It could be anything, but I like to put in under that banner of "Loli-Mod" as it is an existent trope. I can't wait to see that though, guy probably didn't have a chance. Anyway wind conquers all if you go by Fire Emblem standards of dodge, slice, dodge, slice and fire is powerful but slow, so if they duel again he may have a shot.

Saw episode 1 at today's Gonza Festa.

Spoiler for Episode 1:

Today's guests were Ono Daisuke (Kazuma), Fujimura Ayumi (Ayano), Morinaga Rika (Ren), and Producer Arai. The screening was without the opening and ending sequences, but the singer Kiuji Saori, who does both songs, did a live performance of the opening song, which was quite pleasant to hear.

I was thinking of Shana when I first saw this series, with a redhead spurting out flames and all, but after seeing the anime, the similarities are conspicuous.

Ayano is understandably bitchy, being the most powerful in the Kannagi Family, who despises Kazuma, the disowned loser. However, she definitely does have tsunderekko potential, a character that will surely develop as their relationship progresses (sounds like Mamoru-kun as well). Fujimura Ayumi (Karada in Asatte no Houkou) does a good job of voicing Ayano, although her battle scenes have yet to take place.

The battle scenes using the elements, the supernatural theme, the dark tone, and the underlying mystery sets for an interesting atmosphere. Three family members are killed in episode one, so Gonzo isn't pulling any punches. To top it, this title has fanservicey bits in it, and Producer Arai stressed that the three classmates wear different color pantsu for a reason.

I enjoyed episode one, but Kaze no Stigma isn't for everyone. I've scanned and uploaded a revised character relationship chart, which was distributed at today's event.

After reading this it sounds like this series will be the poster child of my theory of the Lolidom trend. I like it when studios make it easy for me.

AniDB clearly states that the airing date is 4/13/2007.

Moon Phase says that the first broadcast is next Wednesday night in Kyushu at 3:38. First listing on Shoboi Calendar is next Thursday night at 25:30 am (i.e., 1:30 am on Friday the 13th) on TV Saitama. AniDB is right.
