Now THAT is what I call drama. I've seen some people consider the scenes and interactions between characters as being overly 'theatrical', but there's no pleasing some people. Aside from that, if you want theatre, Star Driver might just be the solution for that.

Moving on...

-I like the way how they portray Lir, or however you spell his name. It's this evil, loud-mouthed asshole with PINK hair who holds off two Alpha Stigma bearers and a superb female warrior as well as a highly skilled executive officer, though not all at once. In any case, I think he's going to be one of those tough nuts that won't die, mainly because he seems to have some extremely important info about Ryner that the man himself doesn't know about. He's definitely going to come up against them again, and I doubt the result might be as pretty as it is this episode with just a few dead bodies.

-The more I compare the opening to the Tiia I've seen in the last two episodes, the less I see of him as inherently 'evil'. Perhaps his behavior really just boils down to only humans (a BIG only, considering that most of the people living on the continent are humans). Of course, getting his ass handed to him helps that impression quite a bit.

-Luke's disposition is interesting, though I'd say he's not less a man for being that devoted to Milk. Perhaps not entirely in a romantic way, but it certainly tells me more about his character than half an episode's narrative of his inner self can do. If it's possible, I would definitely like to see him in action more often, though that might be a little too late.

-The Focus of the episode, of course, was the interaction between Ferris and Ryner, which I thought was carried out quite well. She obviously does the first thing MOST familiar to the both of them - ill-treating him - and both get into the flow immediately. A great example of the partnership and the bonds they have forged over their travels.

Awesome portrayal of Ferris, by the way. She simply casts off the load of crap from Lir in a matter-of-fact way, so even though she might be feeling emotions for Ryner that she isn't sure about, she certainly still acts like how she should be.

My guess here is that RynerxFerris shippers would be over the moon about her simple statement of feeling alone if Ryner died. The reward was a surprise (VERY warranted: even though the emotional part here was quite good, you NEVER turn your back on a dangerous enemy) attack from Lir, but ultimately I thought the reactions were plenty good from Ryner and Ferris.

-Ryner's return was a surprise for me as well, because I thought they might show more scenes of encouragement from Ferris and Sion about his status. Then I realise that he talked about running away from the fact that he was a monster and it made sense, because all that talk earlier ("You're not a monster" when Ryner first went berserk against the Pink siblings) would seem like comfort words, and not the truth. Ferris went direct this time and set him straight, apparently.

And Solver of all Formulas? Interesting....It explains why his Alpha Stigma is...different.

The preview doesn't look too good for Kiefer, it seems, and it feels like the drawings are...different? Or maybe it's just me...

Having read the part of ep 20 in the novel, I don't think the anime does the novel full justice. But then maybe my judgement was skewed. Maybe I could have appreciated the moments better if I hadn't read ahead. Eitherway, love the actions in this episode: Ferris flying in to "save" Ryner, Luke and Ryner and Ferris teaming up against Gastark, Ryner and Ferris' emotional moment, Ryner's first time at being able to shut down his eye all by himself.... and with the hints about the heroes at the end, this anime just gets better and better!!

Does anyone know the official number of episodes for this series? I so hope we're getting a second season for this. Legend of the legendary heroes. Now THIS is how fantasy should be done.

I think it's just an artstyle shift. Or a desperate attempt to increase DVD sales or TV ratings by sex appeal...

Noa and Kiefer's boobs seem tripled in size. ( Milk's still remained the same, but she definitely looked sexier than usual )

Not to mention the lines in the preview seems a little thicker than the usual Denyuuden character art, like their outlines were drawn with marker pens.

It's the type of anime that instead of focusing on plot, tries to focus on personal interactions, but in doing so they basically focus strictly on Ryner. I think it adds a pretty abstract and jumbled feel to the traditional adventure fantasy type thing. That said, we did get some information on the plot this time around, which I figured was pretty obvious but nobody has quite posted about it yet. At this point with Ryner being the "solver of all formulas", we can assume that's the name of one of the heros. Likewise, the way they talked about Sion at the end made it quite obvious that he's one of the heros too. We can also assume that heros are reborn which is why Ferris's brother was saying they could kill him to spare him his fate. We don't really have much other information, and I can't remember how many heros total that there are, but I think there's a decent chance at Luke being one too. Obvious, King Gastark has to be one, not really sure who else though.

After that, pink hair attacks, kids cry out, and it's Ryner, Luke, & Ferris teamed up. Bit disappointing that they didn't take out pink hair, but it was a satisfyingly high-tension battle. Ryner's inner struggle results in what may be an ability to destroy those crystals once and for all. I hope the Ryner & Ferris exchange at the end isn't a foreshadowing... __________________

Spoiler for @ars89: To me it sounded like the anti-Gastark fraction wasn't invovled with Roland yet but Luke was suggesting to Sion that they join up and since Sion seemed a bit odd at the end of the episode I'm not so sure they will. (Plus, remember how much crap he had for associating with one Alpha Stigma and imagine the trouble he would be in for working with all the God's Eyes, he's probably be thrown out of office if the people found out). __________________ If it has a plot I have something to say about it! What I don't understand here it is how much a character is powerful. Spoiler for space: I mean, each character got great start, but that power has been losing strength episode after episode. Fraude looked powerful, even Ryner said that, and Ryner and Ferris lost, but Luke overpowered him (even if it wasn't a real fight, I know). The red one, Sion right-hand man had the same start but then again he lost against Tiir, and Tiir, who had the same path too, in this episode looked so fragile. And Ryner himself looks like to have no chances against anybody with his thunder-light that even a child can dodge (Ok, Ryner it is not at his full strength right now) Anyways each time Ferris save him. On the contrary Ferris, not having any power, seems really powerful (is her sword a relic?). Anyways Gastark need to be erased for what they gonna do to Kiefer. Even if Spoiler for speculations: I think it could be a trap for Ryner.
