Frenda is not just a level 0, she has gone through research on powers like Mikoto has and scanned the building if there is any useful terrain. She almost beat her.

At this point level does not really matter. Once weak points are exposed one need the power to carry out the action.

Actually, it seemed to me that Mikoto was winning, and that Mikoto holding back was why Frenda managed to get to the bluff state and even then with Mikoto's power entirely sealed Mikoto was still managing to hold out.

Once you consider that Mikoto was essentially walking straight into a carefully prepared trap I think the whole thing becomes less impressive. What I took from it is not that Frenda is a badass or a true danger to a lvl 5, but rather that espers need to not get too cocky or arrogant. Even Mikoto needs to be more careful, if she weren't a level 5 she would not have won. On the other hand it also shows how powerful lvl 5s are. To so thoroughly crush every trap while barely even trying to avoid them? Yeah that's pretty powerful.

Mikoto being badass is always welcome.

She's been blowing up labs non-stop though right? She isn't even using railgun when it could have resolved things earlier when her lightning was being grounded into steel pillars.

Well, Mikoto is still trying to use non-lethal methods here.

Yeah but she could put a blast right in front of Frenda and thus completely seal her movements right from the beginning. There'd be no chase and no room to do the ignis bluff in.

She's too tired. She's been attacking facilities for so long with so little sleep that she just can't do a railgun.

I guess the situation wasn't all that well illustrated. She is too tired to use railguns, or at least to use them without depleting the energy she has left.

Oh, Ilidsor ninja'd me...

Anyway, even if she could use them, she doesn't shoot those directly at people (unless they are deranged murderers I guess)

Other than the bluff, it looked to me like Frenda was getting her ass kicked. Everything she was doing was totally useless against a Mikoto on low-power.

Episode was fun. Voices are kind of bland, but Frenda's sadistic grins throughout the episode was nice.

Misread what I meant. I _was_ saying that she's too tired to use railgun. Hence I led up to the comment with "she's been blowing up labs non-stop".

Also, whenever I hear "nishishishi" I think of Miya from Amagami.

Don't sell short Frenda either, Mikoto on low power is still a lot better than your average level 4. To fight that as a level 0 ain't that bad.

And I would say to people implying traps are cheats: using your brain isn't. She knows her own limits and plays by them.

THAT WAS AWESOME. They adapted it perfectly.

Too bad there's no way next episode will have the same quality this one had. I would've liked to see this animation team saved for next ep. Although the preview doesn't look bad at all. I really don't understand why Index can't look this good consistently.

Oh great. A sociopathic little girl. Make that a whole group of them, plus one that doesn't look so little. Just what Academy City needed: more crazy murderous people.

Yep, she's completely powerless. That's part of her charm though~

Next episode could have the same quality, and then the next one or two without the action could be low quality. At least I hope so...

And yeah it's sad I look back to Index/Index II and wish it'd looked more like this. Maybe in III...

OMG! Team ITEM was awesome!

Damm, Frenda was a badass she almost beat Mikoto. What a great battle they had between the two.

10 out of 10!

Next episode, Mikoto vs Mugino!

And there's a whole lot more where they came from

Anyway, unlike Accelerator, many of the people from the "dark side" of Academy City have no choice but to be like that, they live in a world where they have to kill to survive, and in some cases, they have to kill to protect something/someone precious to them.

With tactics and careful preparation, guess someone almost beat a Lv 5.

Murderous, sadistic little girls are definitely not my piece of cake.

Personally I didn't find this episode as enjoyable as the other ones (except for those slice of life bits). There's some problem with pacing as everything seems to be stretched out and kinda loose at times. The action scenes don't have enough thrill and punch to put me on edge like when I watched Misaka fighting Accelerator. And maybe it's only me but Frenda was getting to the point of being annoying with all those monologues.

Anyway I still need to give credit when credit is due, art quality is top notch, maybe the best out of all 8 episodes so far; impressive voice acting, Frenda sounds both cute and psycho there; faithful adaptation is another thing I love about J.C Staff this season and this episode didn't fail me! All in all everything should have been perfect if it was more fast-paced, 9/10.
