I missed the ONAs back when they aired but this is looking really good. Love the art direction and the fast cutting, especially in the recap ep. I wish there were more TV anime with non-standard direction, but we have Kyoukai no Kanata and Kill la Kill this season so I shouldn't complain.

I wonder how significant the Alice in Wonderland allusions will be beyond the surface level. I'd read the book if I could somehow find time...

As for these past two episodes, yay it's back it's back it's back~ I was rather surprised however when people starting making the Myoue 1.0=Inari connection since I had never considered it myself/seen any theories like that last year, but the more I think about it the more it makes sense. No clue how it works but given that this first episode dropped some new information already I feel like the writers finally have enough time to write the story they want so they're finally gunning for it (abet with some of the crazy antics the show so loves to show).

It was the Ishida Akira connection that made me assume they were the same person.

I do wonder if it's safe to assume the ONA/shorts canon is going to match up 100% with the TV canon.

Well, since episode 1 used/expanded on a lot of two of the ONAs and it looks like episode 2 will do the same I expect the two canons will probably be pretty close, although everyone else already mentioned that Koto got her hammer in a different way here so I guess not 100%.

Well, episodes 1 through 5 from the 2012 ONA series are almost completely covered in this episode and the next one. After that, the tv show is free to go wherever they want.

There's still the 2011 ONA to think about, of course, but that could be covered around the end of the series, as Koto finally meets Lady Koto.

Eh not really, episode 1 covered the fifth ONA and about half of the fourth (they could easily slide in the other half elsewhere), next week's episode should cover the first ONA but that still leaves two and three (the floating garbage and the Shoko one IIRC). Abet, everything that hasn't been covered so far/isn't in the preview for next week could be considered a side story but at this point the entire show is a collection of side stories.

Anyway, the Shoko story and the floating garbage thing are pretty much irrelevant. Like you said they're side stories. That's why I said they can take the series wherever they want after next episode. Heck, they could make the whole thing a collection of side stories. As long as they go back to the real plot in the last two episodes... it could work.

Don't forget there will be an episode 5.5 which is a compilation episode so they could include many things from the ONA.

Excellent. The scene where Inari was crying while asleep was so sad. And Koto is really cute. They make such great father-daughter pair.

You know, there are relatively few anime that have the ambition to truly be great, and Kyousogiga really seems to have it. The care and precision that's gone into constructing the story and all aspects of the production reflect that, IMO. Whether it can pull it off remains to be seen, but I applaud it for aspiring to be great.

so who exactly is the current Koto with the hammer? Is she simply a foundling? if so, why is she so dead set on finding Mirror Kyoto? who's her mother?

Is her biological father Myoe?

oh, or maybe Myoe made her from ink?

Inari (Myoe) and Lady Koto's daughter. That's what's implied at the very least.

Yes, she's most likely Inari's biological daughter.

Nothing is set in stone though. All this could be misdirection for all we know. We'll have to wait and see.

^That's what I got from this episode as well. This is the secret Koto kept mentioning. Inari doesn't want the shrine to know because that could cause trouble.

I thought the secret was that Koto had discovered Inari/Myoue's secret study with the Mirror Kyoto map on the wall. Considering that the shrine seems to be the organization that ran them out of this world into Mirror Kyoto to start with I imagine Inari wants to keep that information hidden, and for Koto the secret might even be that she found out and Inari doesn't know. Although there are certainly secrets and mysteries surrounding Koto in the show as well, I had started thinking she was human but after seeing the scientists at the shrine examine her has given me second thoughts, but the idea that she might be bunny-Koto and Inari's daughter seems a tad bit too obvious.
