I'm reading the manga scans in parallel with the series so as not to spoil myself. I'm really quite surprised the manga hasn't been picked up for english translation given some of the absolute drivel that does get up. (edit: I was just informed that Yen Press may have licensed the manga.). So far my main worry in viewing the anime as a "stand-alone effort" is that with a planned 50+ episodes, the anime will fall into the "egg of the week battle" recycle trap. I'm taking on faith that there's a well-etched overall story arc that minimizes that feeling.

Abit, I also agree with the fear you have but then the reassurance from the manga readers that it won't be the case is a good sign ^^

The pricing jump has more to do with the dollars value against the yen - which currently sucks. (103 yen to the 1 USD today... til a few weeks ago, it was 120 yen/$1).

Just so people know, Yen Press have licensed the manga for anthology release at the end of July. We'll be seeing volume release early next year.

Well, I finally caught the second episode, and the weird style didn't really irk me this time (but there were fewer city shots, so it was really only the sun, some buildings, and the moon that were unusual.)
It was a pretty good episode, and unlike the "monster of the week"-type things, it was mildly meaningful, what with the kid stuff and such. Also, would it be safe to assume that each male character will have his own work ("Cool", "Big", etc?) The fight scenes weren't quite as good as Maka's, but they were still pretty cool and big. Ehh, yeah. I'm actually looking forward to the next episode a bit this time. And let's see if they can make the guns look cool. |

It's mostly targeted at younger people though, so the style reflects that. |
