Exclamation [Nomination Phase] AnimeSuki Choice Awards 2018

Nomination Phase
Voting Phase
Happy New Year!
Each year we hold a competition where you can vote for the best anime of the year in various categories.
We have a Handy Helper to help you with building the post.

Be aware we have some changes for the rules for this year!

Since most people are familiar with the old contest rules, this year's rule changes have been highlighted in green.

Format
Since their inception the awards have been organized in a two-stage format
  • A nomination phase, where you could nominate up to three shows for each category.
You now have FIVE (5) picks! Pick as many or as few as you like.
Rank them by what you like more at the top, just like a top 5.
We'll count them using the Instant-Runoff Voting system (aka. Alternative Vote).
To get 2nd place, we'll remove the 1st place winner(s) and re-run the vote.
    For 3rd place we'll remove 1st and 2nd. For 4th we'll remove 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Etc.

The top 6 ranks will move forward.
If there are ties, these will be included. There can be no more then 9 entries. In case of too many ties entries will be eliminated starting from the 6th rank group.

Entries with higher rank and more votes will take priority. If that is not enough then we will favor based on MAL favorites. For Movies and OVAs we will add up the favorites of the source if there is one; since they get less exposure compared to TV series. We will treat the first that is "parent story", "prequel" or "sequel" (in that order) as the source, be it TV or otherwise. For characters the favorites on the character are used. For people categories favorites for the person in question are used. For staff positions, we will compare the shows.

After nominations are over we'll move into...

  • A voting phase, where we pick the final winner for each category.
Instant-Runoff Voting will be used to count the tally, there is no limit on picks.
If 9 made it you can rank all 9. Just rank them based on preference, favourites at the top.

Extra Categories
Starting this year we are adding Extra Categories, denoted by the X tag.
Like all other categories they are optional! You can just skip them.

Unlike other categories, they might not be there next year!
Mainly because they're hard categories to do and also to vote for.

We don't know how many of these contests we'll do so for this year we are adding a lot of them at once, mostly focusing on long standing wishes of the community:

-{X1}- [Best Ongoing Series]
Same as all other years. Vote for a series that's ongoing.
We're putting it here because it doesn't fit the theme of "[D]istinguishing Features" where it was usually shoehorned into.
-{X2}- [Best Finale]
Many series end on a cliffhanger. Some series don't end at all.
Do you have a series that left you very satisfied with its ending?
Vote for any show, TV, OVA or Movie in the eligible series list.
-{X3}- [Best Voice Actor]
By popular demand. For likely this year only, you can vote for your favourite Voice Actor. We accept all voice actors of all languages, not just Japanese Seiyuu. They however have to have had a role in an anime this year or they don't count.

Since we know you have no idea who does what we've prepared some helpful lists to help you out. See posts after this one.
-{X4}- [Best Producer-san]
The position of a staff member(s) that was involved in the production of a specific anime in 2018. e.g. Storyboard / SSSS.Gridman or Script / Dragon Pilot. Full list of staff roles available after eligible series list in this post.

By popular demand. This has been suggested as early as 2010 by james0246 and has come up every now and then. People always wanted awards to recognize various positions in the craft but sadly that's very very hard (there's 42 positions in an anime studio!). We have some helpful lists and materials if you're totally clueless on how an anime is even made. See eligible staff positions section later in the post.

Please note that you are writing the position only for a specific show (e.g. Character Design / Your Favorite Show), not the name of the person in that position. This is because it is sometimes hard to find out who did what and lot of things are actually a team effort e.g. Script, Character Design, et cetera. If you want to name names and comment on their position and work, write it with [indent] tags under the vote. Yes, this is a very hard category for the average anime viewer. Just skip it if it feels too daunting.
-{X5}- [Best Cinematography]
By Popular Demand. Another oldie, has come up in different forms. Cinematography here refers to the camera, the scene and it's movements. There's no actual camera in anime of course, it's an imaginary camera. This is different from visuals and animation in that the focus is on the atmosphere of the scene, as created by the composition, character placement and camera movements, and not the technical prowess or character performance. You may consider it in chunks of excellence or the cinematography of the entire series a whole, it's your choice.
-{X6}- [Best Cast]
What's the show with the best ensemble of characters? It doesn't have to be a band show, just what show you think overall has the best characters, character interactions and seiyuu roles.
-{X7}- [Best Thriller]
By Popular Demand. Probably the most requested and rejected. A Thriller is a show that combines suspense, some action, some mystery, and keeps you at the edge of your seat while watching it. Major emphasis on suspense, and constantly being at the edge of your seat!

Some things you probably want to know: Every thriller is a drama, but not every drama is a thriller. Every thriller is also a mystery, but there's more suspense-style mystery solving with action sprinkled in, rather then anything that requires puzzle solving. Every thriller has action, but the action is a device for suspense as opposed to making a statement though bloody combat, the brutality of war, etc. Think more along the lines of western style standoffs and gunfights, and less deus ex machina or mary sue protagonists kicking everyone's arse as their god given right.

Complete List of Eligible Staff Positions
For Best Producer-san (X4) you vote the staff position followed by the show name (e.g. Music Composition / Love Live). We will translate it to people names (if we can!) in the final winner banners. If more than one person shares the position (common for character design, script, etc.) then we recognize everyone when you vote for said position.

For Best Producer-san (X4) write it as Staff Position / Series Name
You can go over the limit of 5, we'll just ignore the extras.
For most categories, including Best Cast (X6) you just write the Series Name. The exceptions are:
  • For Best Credits Theme (D6) you need to write it as: Series Name OP3 or Series Name ED2 etc.
  • For character categories (D1, D2, D3, D4) you need to write it as Character Name / Series Name
  • For Best Voice Actors (X3) you need to write just the person's name (not some character name!).
  • For Best Producer-san (X4) you need to write it as Position / Series Name

These rules affect voting...
  • Ongoing series can only be voted in X1
  • Has to be eligible (see list of eligible shows above)
  • You can only vote a show in TWO of the genre categories (the B categories).

So from the top...
in case you're still confused by the above image tutorial
  1. Copy the text above and paste in your post.
  2. Then write after each category your favourites separating each by a comma (or in a bbcode-list).
  3. When you want to abstain from a category you delete the line, or leave it blank.
  4. When you vote in a character category you write: Character Name / Series Name
  5. When you vote in a song categories you write: Series Name OP1 OR Series Name ED3 (replace 1 and 3 with the correct numbers for your choices)
  6. As long as you don't mess up the category name, which includes the verification tags (i.e. A1, A2, etc.) the vote will be counted just fine
  7. Even if you do make mistakes we'll do our best to invalidate as little as possible.
  8. You CAN change your nominations by editing your post. You can always just vote for certain categories and decide the rest later (or not at all). You can edit your nominations as much as you want as long as it's before the deadline stated at the top. Tallying is automated and we do it several times including after the deadline to account for any changes you may have made.
Got it? That's all there is to it, have fun!

But I can't spell the names to save my life!

Don't worry, most people make some kind of typo or mistake. We know, we've seen plenty; including our own.

What you should know,
  • We have created a Handy Helper for specific purpose of making it easier for you to format your choices.

  • Errors are checked by humans! The tally is automated, but any errors or "potentially confusing" entries are resolved by us (the organizers).
So, with the exception of obscure references, nothing that you would write in an average post would ever count as an error.

  • We periodically post an error report with whatever made it past our eyes and research. The report contains detailed information on where, and why.
And don't fret if you're on it, (if possible) other categories and valid series in the problem category will all be counted just fine.

What does the error report usually consist of? Well from last year, typically...
  • clear rule violation, such as voting for Movies in a TV category
  • very obscure series aliases, more often character names
  • overly malformed posts; typically incorrectly formatted song categories, or character categories without the series name. On occasion failure to copy/paste the categories tags altogether
  • and sometimes (rarely) ineligible series get nominated

That's about all of them. See, you don't have to worry about your typing being a problem.

We have special rules for numerous scenarios and edge cases. A lot of these don't affect voting, just how we determine winners or what's allowed and what's not.
For the shortlist of what you need to know when voting, see above in the How To Vote tutorial.
For the complicated stuff, you'll find all the details you'll ever want to know below.

If you find some odd case that's not covered, just talk with us about it. Most of these were added this way.

Extra Details on Rules, Voting & Categories

Split Cour & Ongoing Series Rules
  • Ongoing Series are eligible only for the {X1} Category (and are not listed).

  • Split-Cour TV anime are considered as one whole series (as opposed to two or more separate seasons with separate listings).
As such a Split-Cour anime that has finished its first cour this year but is due to start its second cour next year will be considered as an Ongoing Series.

  • A Split-Cour series is defined as a TV series that finishes at a certain date but continues airing within 1 season/cour (approximately three months).

  • Prequels, spin-offs or other related series that are not a chronological continuation of the same story are considered as distinct and have separate listings.

  • Movies and OVAs that are parts of an over-arching story are considered as one whole series. As such, if the DVD/BD of the last episode has not yet been released then it is considered an Ongoing Series.

Character Category Rules
  • During nominations a character may be nominated as both Lead Character, Side-Character as well as Antagonist, and may also be nominated as Male and Female at the voters discretion.

  • In cases of unambiguous gender. If a character looks like a female and is also a female then she is not eligible in the Best Male Lead and is removed before the above applies. Same for unambiguous male characters.

  • If a character dresses with female clothes but acts and talks like a male, and is a male, then the character is treated as a male (regardless of his cross-dressing quirks) and results in the female category is discarded. Same for females dressing like males (but this should be more obvious, and go with out saying). If this is, for whatever reason, debatable or confusing (eg. characters that also fall into anthropomorphic-tropes such as "catgirl" Ferris from Re:Zero) the character is considered of ambiguous gender and other rules apply.
  • If a character is nominated in both a Lead Character category and the Supporting Character Category then only one may go through to the second phase. The nomination with the least votes is discarded.
  • In case of ties, the priority is as follows: Lead Male/Female Lead, Antagonist, Side-Character. In case of ties for ambiguous gender characters (ie. traps) even if the actual gender is known, the physical appearance takes precedence.
Example: If Ferris from Re:Zero was voted in all character categories and also happens to be tied in all of them, then "he" will be voted in Best Female Lead. Reason being that since he looks and acts as a female, most of the characteristics by which he would be compared are "female character characteristics" (at least with regard to anime logic).

Confused about the categories?

The contest is open to your interpretation. We've narrowed down the meaning to avoid unfortunate misunderstandings, so as long as the title "Best of [insert-category]" fits the series in question then it's fine by us. Don't worry about it and have fun.

If you're not satisfied and need a technical clear cut answer, we've got that too,

Incomplete; still contemplating some of the others.
-{A1}- [Best Storyline & Plot]
  1. No Game No Life Zero
Very good prequel, it fits so well cant tell if it wasn't planned before the series.
  2. Mahoutsukai no Yome
  3. Violet Evergarden
  4. Dragon Pilot
Sometimes, just writing a good ol' story is good enough.
  5. Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin
The execution is perfect. But, there's not really any fresh ideas here.
It can also come off as very long winded; there's less fighting then you'd think.
  6. Goblin Slayer
Just because it dared to write the gritty story of a famous nobody in fantasy trope land.

-{A2}- [Best Visuals & Animation]
  1. Violet Evergarden
  2. No Game No Life Zero
Best use of visual effects I've seen in a while; no super detailed jpeg's here.
  3. Dragon Pilot
    The power of expressive animation.
  4. Bloom into you
  5. Mahoutsukai no Yome
  6. Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin
    A bit too much CG.
  7. Harukana Recieve

-{B1}- [Best Action-Adventure]
  1. Full Metal Panic! Invisible Victory
  2. Grancrest Senki
  3. SSSS.Gridman

-{B2}- [Best Fantasy & Supernatural]
  1. No Game No Life Zero
  2. Mahoutsukai no Yome
  3. Violet Evergarden
  4. Grancrest Senki
  5. Goblin Slayer
Military science applied to supernatural and fantasy elements is quite interesting.

-{B3}- [Best Science Fiction]
  1. Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin
  2. Full Metal Panic! Invisible Victory

-{B4}- [Best Drama]
  1. Violet Evergarden
  2. Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin
  3. Bloom Into You
  4. Ryuuou no Oshigoto!
More specifically the Ryou and Keika plot. Both very well done.
  5. Hanebado
A heart chilling story of talented people treating other as trash, their playthings and disposable objects.
And slowly learning that... they can totally get away with it because there's plenty of unreasonably kind people supporting them.
The show also has this disturbingly shallow redemption twist to it. Deny your right to be even be born one moment, friends the next.
This is the first time I've seen a sport anime that makes you want to spit at the very name of the sport after watching it.

-{B5}- [Best Romance]
  1. Seishun Buta Yarou wa Bunny Girl Senpai no Yume wo Minai
  2. No Game No Life Zero
  3. Bloom into you
  4. Citrus

-{B6}- [Best Comedy]
  1. Zombieland Saga
The humor is directly proportionate to your ability to read into the parody.
    Spoiler for Hints:
  2. The Disastrous Life of Saiki K. 2
  3. Asobi Asobase
  4. Hamamatsuri
I didn't even know I needed this style of humor in my life...

-{B7}- [Best Slice of Life]
  1. Sora yori mo Tooi Basho
  2. Hamamatsuri
Anzu's story is like a self contained gem.
  3. Citrus
  4. Dragon Pilot
  5. Cells at Work!
  6. Yuru Camp
  7. Harukana Recieve
  8. Irozuku Sekai no Ashita kara
its pretty but everyone is a bit too dense for my liking

-{B8}- [Best Sports Series]
  1. Harukana Recieve
  2. Ryuuou no Oshigoto!
I like shōgi, it's a great game. If not for chinese characters maybe I could actually convince people to play it.
This has a very similar messaging as Hanebado, only unlike that one, it actually does a good job presenting it.
It has the loli bait crap, but it's not taken to extremes and if you like shogi you can enjoy it just fine.

-{C1}- [Best TV Series]
  1. Zombieland Saga
Love letter or Death letter to idol culture. Or both?
  2. The Ancient Magus' Bride
  3. Violet Evergarden
  4. Dragon Pilot
man-- womeneating jet-dragon, whats not to like
  5. Hamamatsuri
    Did nobody watch this?
  6. Harukana Recieve
  7. Ryuuou no Oshigoto!
  8. Bloom into you
  9. Citrus
  10. Goblin Slayer
As for train wrecks...
  • Hanebado do not watch this

-{C2}- [Best OVA]
  1. Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin

-{C3}- [Best Movie]
  1. No Game No Life Zero

-{D1}- [Best Female Lead]
  1. Sakura / Zombieland Saga
    No #1 Anime Rap Girl
    Spoiler for song in show:
  2. Schwi / No Game No Life Zero
Character development so fast it's hard to process.
  3. Mai / Seishun Buta Yarou wa Bunny Girl Senpai no Yume wo Minai
  4. Yuzu / Citrus
So much personality you forget everyone else in the show kind of has none.
  5. Chise Hatori / Mahoutsukai no Yome
  6. Hisone / Dragon Pilot
A chatterbox? never seen that done so boldly before.
Subtracting points for being a pointlessly an airhead on too many occasions.
  7. Rikka / SSSS.Gridman
reserved but not completely shy or shutin type, somehow executed well
  8. Zero Two / Darling in the FranXX

-{D2}- [Best Male Lead]
  1. Yoshifumi Nitta / Hamamatsuri
  2. Elias Ainsworth / Mahoutsukai no Yome
  3. Riku / No Game No Life Zero
  4. Goblin Slayer / Goblin Slayer
  5. Masotan F15j / Dragon Pilot

  1. Akane / SSSS.Gridman
  2. Rem / Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin
  3. Jibril / No Game No Life Zero
  4. Hina / Hamamatsuri
  5. Anti / SSSS.Gridman

-{D4}- [Best Side-Character]
  1. Keika / Ryuuou no Oshigoto!

  3. Ririko / Dragon Pilot
  4. Ginko / Ryuuou no Oshigoto!
  5. Harumin / Citrus
  6. Zaito / Dragon Pilot
  7. Nao / Dragon Pilot

-{D5}- [Best World Setting]
  1. No Game No Life Zero
  2. SSSS.Gridman
  3. Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin
Though not very fair given this is part of a series that had to invent the Universal Century just to place shit on it's timeline.
  4. Grancrest Senki
  5. Mahoutsukai no Yome

-{D6}- [Best Credits Theme]
  1. Zombieland Saga OP1
By far Best lyrics and song at that...
    TL;DR…

Sorry; dynamic content not loaded. Reload?
  2. Mahoutsukai no Yome OP1
  3. Death March to the Parallel World Rhapsody ED1
    A very charming song.
  4. Harukana Recieve OP1
  5. Seishun Buta Yarou wa Bunny Girl Senpai no Yume wo Minai OP1
  6. Hisone to Maso-tan ED1

-{D7}- [Best Soundtrack]
  1. Zombieland Saga
  2. Violet Evergarden
  3. Mahoutsukai no Yome
When it kicks up for important moment it's just perfect.
  4. Haruka Recieve
The battle music is bat shit crazy.
Also has a lot of english insert songs, and good ones at that.

-{X1}- [Best Ongoing Series]
  1. Tensei shitara Slime Datta Ken

-{X2}- [Best Ending]
  1. No Game No Life Zero
  2. Dragon Pilot
  3. Zombieland Saga
  4. Ryuuou no Oshigoto!
  5. Harukana Recieve
  6. Goblin Slayer
  7. Citrus

-{X3}- [Best Voice Actor]
  1. Kaede Hondo
Can't really imagine anyone else doing the rap girl of Zombieland Saga
    Spoiler for song in show:
  2. Ai Kayano
For her role as Schwi. Her role as Persia was also good (too bad the show was very average).
  3. Yuuki Takada
for her role as Yuu in Bloom into you
  4. Minako Kotobuki
for her role as Touko in Bloom into you
  5. Asami Seto
for her role as Mai in bunny girl sempai
  6. Yuuichirou Umehara
Liked his performance as goblin slayer. His role as Gorou in FranXX wasn't bad either.

-{X4}- [Best Producer-san]
  1. Music / Zombieland Saga
Songs are just too damn catchy and varied. There's even rap and death metal for god sake. And just about everything else...
    Spoiler for song in show:
  2. Director / Mahoutsukai no Yome
    Perfect pacing.
  3. Director / No Game No Life Zero
It's a bit fast paced but works well for a movie.
  4. Character Design / Dragon Pilot
While the character designs in Dragon Pilot aren't anything special in still images they are perfect for animation and give a very layed back vibe to the entire show. The range of expression is also very pleasing and works great with the characters.
  5. Character Design / Zombieland Saga
Same as with Dragon Pilot. Character designs perfectly optimized for the action and roles they play in the story. Still cute enough but have wider range of character then if they were more of a stiff standard style.
  6. Director of Photography / Irozuku Sekai no Ashita kara

-{X5}- [Best Cinematography]
  1. Violet Evergarden
  2. Mahoutsukai no Yome
  3. No Game No Life Zero
  4. SSSS.Gridman
  5. Bloom into you
  6. Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin
  7. Dragon Pilot

-{X6}- [Best Cast]
  1. Zombieland Saga
because this is a parody and also not, characters have to fill both comedic role and serious one, and they do that perfectly, no.1 for me just because of the execution
  2. Mahoutsukai no Yome
Very vibrant and unique cast. While they do lean towards some stereotypes inevitably, it has it's own spin and doesn't feel like the same formula we see a million times.
  3. Dragon Pilot
no wasted characters, all very well defined and varied too, the strongest cast on paper but kind feels a bit stiff at times
  4. Ryuuou no Oshigoto!
Fairly large cast, and very short show. But managed to cram a lot of character development for everyone.
There's more character development and exposition for some of the side characters then other shows gave their main characters.
It's also using a lot of very simple tools to get it done, which is a plus. No convoluted deus ex machina to change character views.
  5. Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin
  6. Harukana Recieve
    Best small scale focused cast.
  7. Hamamatsuri
    no wasted characters
  8. SSSS.Gridman
it's varied enough, but not solid enough; the cast is very unevenly developed, but this is accurate to the classic formula it's going for (I guess)

-{X7}- [Best Thriller]
  1. SSSS.Gridman
  2. Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin
  3. Hamamatsuri
  4. Mahoutsukai no Yome

Generally speaking I'd only rate three TV series as max 8/10 (Kokkoku, Golden Kamuy and Megalo Box). The rest were only "good but not great". The only thing I'd rate higher from this year was Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin and that was a long running OVA series.

Namikawa: Will I ever recognise this guy? I still find it hard to reconcile Snow nii-san from Frankenstein Family with Hisoka, Squealer, or even Kazehaya. That's probably the most gentle and humble I heard him so far (or maybe not; what performances have I missed?)

There is a second OVA coming out but apparently it's a prequel and not in direct relation to the first. Source.

Then what about High Score Girl or Bunny Girl who both have a direct continuation to the series coming out in 2019? I don't see the difference between them and the Nanoha movies.

The OVA Memory Snow isn't currently watchable because it's yet to have a bluray release. Wouldn't that make it ineligible for the 2018 awards?

The rule doesn't normally apply to OVAs because for an OVA, the airing date will be roughly the same as the date of availability for worldwide audiences.

On this occasion, however, it looks like MAL has for some reason listed the limited "theatrical release" date of the OVA as the airing date instead of the actual OVA release date which is next year so you are correct and it is ineligible this year. I'll take it out the list.

-{A1}- [Best Storyline & Plot]
  • 3 gatsu no Lion 2nd Season
  • Golden Kamuy
  • Hakata Tonkotsu Ramens
  • Sora yori mo Tooi Basho
  • Mahoutsukai no Yome
-{A2}- [Best Visuals & Animation]
  • Violet Evergarden
  • Irozuku Sekai no Ashita kara
  • Hataraku Saibou
david productions doesn't do that many shows, but the ones they do make are always high-quality.
-{B1}- [Best Action-Adventure]
  • Golden Kamuy
  • Hakata Tonkotsu Ramens
  • Angolmois: Genkou Kassenki
-{B2}- [Best Fantasy & Supernatural]
  • Mahoutsukai no Yome
  • Miira no Kaikata
-{B3}- [Best Science Fiction]
  • Hataraku Saibou
Cells at Work! defies categorization. It's not really science "fiction" since the processes it describes are real, but anthropomorphized cells makes it science fiction, I guess.
-{B4}- [Best Drama]
  • 3 gatsu no Lion 2nd Season
  • Golden Kamuy
-{B5}- [Best Romance]
  • Kyoto Teramachi Sanjou no Holmes
Cute, but per usual slow, romance, though not very Holmesian.
-{B6}- [Best Comedy]
  • Aggressive Retsuko
I don't laugh out loud while watching Aggretsuko. It's much more wryly amusing. Would love to see an episode where Retsuko meets Hello Kitty. (She did actually appear in an anime this year, Shinya! Tensei Bakabon.)
  • Hataraku Saibou
  • Miira no Kaikata
-{B7}- [Best Slice of Life]
  • Sora yori mo Tooi Basho
Nothing else comes close. One of the best SOLs I've seen in quite some time.
-{B8}- [Best Sports Series]
  • 3 gatsu no Lion 2nd Season
Only "sports" series I watched this year, I think.
-{C1}- [Best TV Series]
  • 3 gatsu no Lion 2nd Season
First show I gave a ten score at MAL since 2010's Cross Game.
  • Hakata Tonkotsu Ramens
What a woefully underrated little gem this is.
  • Hataraku Saibou
Suffered a bit from the "germ-of-the-week" format, but always entertaining and informative.
  • Sora yori mo Tooi Basho
What more could you ask for in a cute-girl adventure. Wished it had spent a bit more time in Antarctica and less at sea, but penguins!
  • Golden Kamuy
Great mix of history, anthropology, and stirring adventure with best heroine of this or many other years..
-{C2}- [Best OVA]
  • Aggressive Retsuko
    "We Wish Yetal Christmas"
-{C3}- [Best Movie]
-{D1}- [Best Female Lead]
  • Asirpa / Golden Kamuy
  • Kobuchizawa Shirase / Sora yori mo Tooi Basho
  • Kawamoto Hinata / 3 gatsu no Lion 2nd Season
Is Hina a "lead?" Or a supporting character?
-{D2}- [Best Male Lead]
  • Kiriyama Rei / 3 gatsu no Lion 2nd Season
  • White Blood Cell / Hataraku Saibou
  • Banba Zenji / Hakata Tonkotsu Ramens
  • Sugimoto Saichi / Golden Kamuy
  • Elias Ainsworth / Mahoutsukai no Yome
-{D3}- [Best Antagonist]
  • Tsurumi / Golden Kamuy
In a story where all the characters are more than a bit crazy, Lt. Tsurumi still stands out.
  • Cancer / Hataraku Saibou
Even being a cancer patient myself, I still felt a bit sorry for the cancer cell in this episode.
-{D4}- [Best Side-Character]
  • Kawamoto Akari / 3 gatsu no Lion 2nd Season
  • Platelets / Hataraku Saibou
  • Ruth / Mahoutsukai no Yome
  • Miyake Hinata / Sora yori mo Tooi Basho
  • Ami / Lupin III: Part 5
-{D5}- [Best World Setting]
  • Golden Kamuy
  • Angolmois: Genkou Kassenki
  • Mahoutsukai no Yome
-{D6}- [Best Credits Theme]
  • Golden Kamuy OP1
  • Darling in the FRANXX OP1
  • Hataraku Saibou OP1
Always good when an OP/ED features the show's voice actors who also can sing like Kanazawa and Maeno here.
  • Mahoutsukai no Yome OP1
  • Lupin III: Part 5 ED1
Sawashiro with her sexy voice in overdrive.
-{D7}- [Best Soundtrack]
  • Hataraku Saibou
Just so wonderfully over-the-top when it counted. The show wouldn't have worked without this score.
-{X1}- [Best Ongoing Series]
  • GeGeGe no Kitarou 2018
Nanashi would be in my "best antagonist" list if Kitarou were eligible this year.
-{X2}- [Best Ending]
-{X3}- [Best Voice Actor]
  • Sawashiro Miyuki
Mine Fujiko and Kitarou in the same year. What a remarkable talent she is. Still wondering how she managed to voice Kitarou during maternity leave. She never missed a beat.
  • Hanazawa Kana
Some seiyuu get over-hyped, but Kanazawa has lived up to her billing this year She has impressed in a number of lead roles like Kawamoto Hinata in 3-gatsu, Red Blood Cell (where her ability to scream paid off), and Shirase in Sora yori.
  • Shiraishi Haruka
What a great voice for Asirpa-san! She plays so many roles in this story. Sometimes she's teaching about Ainu culture and cuisine. Sometimes she's leading a number of adult men with her deep knowledge of the land, her bravery, and her intelligence. And Shiraishi manages to find voicings to match Asirpa's reputation as the girl-of-many-faces. I hope she has made her mark and gets many more rich roles to voice.
  • Takeuchi Ryouta
Rare starring role for Takeuchi, but he delivers as Elias Ainsworth in Magus Bride. Elias is a complicated character with clouded motives. Takeuchi makes him entirely believable.
  • Ginga Banjou
No performance was as distinctive, or as disturbing, as this veteran's voicing of Nanashi in GeGeGe no Kitarou (2018).

Also I would have nominated Aoi Yuuki for her voicing of the demonic sword, Seven Blasphemous Deaths, in the ineligible Thunderbolt Fantasy. I've followed her career since Kurenai, and this is one of her finest performances.
-{X4}- [Best Producer-san]
-{X5}- [Best Cinematography]
  • Violet Evergarden
  • Irozuku Sekai no Ashita kara
-{X6}- [Best Cast]
  • Golden Kamuy
  • Mahoutsukai no Yome
  • Hakata Tonkotsu Ramens
  • Hataraku Saibou
  • Lupin III: Part 5
-{X7}- [Best Thriller]
