Hmm ... well ep 8 was pretty good I guess, although I was not expecting Natsune to be given a temp place in the "spotlight". Hmm. Is it just me or has this season been emphasizing some of the considerations of what Natsume is going to do with himself and his abilities in the long run?

Anyway. 7/10 vote for ep 8 from me. Still Natsume goodness if nothing else!

I totally know what Natsume should do with his future:

He should become like Ginko (from Mushishi) and help people deal with strange occurrences caused by Youkai. Neither seeing the youkai as good or bad but just a part of life. Or something along those lines.

An onmyouji perhaps? I always pictured him as a vet, as he is always taking care of Youkai and animals, and he loves cute things...especially cats.

Meat bun strike! Natsume looked pretty cool dressed as that god. So the beast they have to catch looks like a black version of Nyanko-sensei. Glad Hiiragi saved Natsume. Natori really doesn't like this request this time.

Ginko seemed like a bit of tragic character to me though. Natsume needs to be surrounded by friends. That's the only happy ending I can see.

Looks like a character development arc for Natori. Nice. It's getting more and more apparent he's starting to change thanks to Natsume. However, becoming too soft might be a problem in his line of work.

Am I the only one getting annoyed by the fact that Nyanko takes WAY too much time to start taking things seriously and the fact that Takashi is so pathetically weak? I know Takashi is supposed to be this kind hearted person, but the fact that he's still as weak as he was in the beginning of series is annoying me, always getting captured, tricked, etc. Then again, since this isn't a shounen, it's likely he will remain weak for the rest of the series, bah. I still like this series though.

The only problem with new episodes of Natsume is that you realise you're just getting closer to the end of the series.

Much better than the first part. No one but Midorikawa is able to capture the way joy and sorrow are intertwined - she's an amazing writer at her best.

Conclusion in episode 10 was pretty bittersweet. It reached that tenderness part when the black kami offered the white kami to go home together.
Is this the first time the anime dealt with gods instead of regular youkai and ayakashi?

Not really sure how kamis are handled in japanese mythology, they seem just like slightly higher levels of youkai.

I'm not really sure what the difference between kami and youkai is either. It just seems like Kami are spirits deemed beneficial and worshiped by humans.

IIRC, the snow bunny from season 1 was also a kami.

Kai, the boy Natsume saved at the end of S2, was a God too. There are Gods scattered all through the four seasons.

Yes, I lean towards this too.

But Gods are a bit different to Youkais in the sense, that they dont alway manifest. They only materialize for special occations or when they want to communicate with somebody. They also dont roam free around, but have a shrine and usually they are bound to it and its close surroundings. Also, they tend to have special powers (and for those powers they are worshipped by humans) and obviously they stand above youkais in the hierarchi. Furthermore the source of their power is different. While youkais posses the youki (negative form of energy), the gods spread positive energy around them.

Now, my knowledge on this subject is baised mainly on my observations I gather from watching anime.... how reliable that source is, is for you to decide..

He should just accept at this point that Natsume is going to show up in strange places and doing strange things. Though this did put more pressure on him to get the job done, keep Natsume safe, and not have to seal the god which Natsume wouldn't approve of. I wonder if the groups are pushing back against Natori's apparent change. They need someone of his skill level to seal that god or they just want him out of the way. Either way they didn't want him to achieve the safer option of releasing the other god. It's nice to see Natori develop from the guy we saw in the first season. Sure, Natsume's development is what we see most, but others are changing because of him. Sucks that Natori is given a job that would have been impossible without Natsume's interference. Kind of worried about the Nyanko and Natori team. Can they keep from killing each other and get the job done? On the other hand Natsume really needs to be more careful. I'm fairly sure that Hiiragi is more durable than he is. Taking a hit for her is just crazy. It's good that he cares so much, but he should think about how he'll worry others. __________________ Anime-Evo

Dop Mmmm.... Join Date: Sep 2006	Spoiler for Ep 10: OK, even I was thinking Fudzuki x Houdzuki OTP at the end of that one... It's a common theme in Midorikawa's work (and if you've not seen "Hotarubi no Mori e", you should) that the youkai aren't necessarily evil, or scary, or horrifying, but just different to mortals, and this is what we saw in the episode, that the god Natori was sent to seal wasn't really bad, as such, and the two gods were just different faces of the same coin. I loved the flashback to the festival, and the fate for gods when belief in them is gone. In the end, Natori didn't need to seal Fudzuki, and the two gods departed for another place in peace. Another bittersweet episode. The only problem with new episodes of Natsume is that you realise you're just getting closer to the end of the series.

Maybe he is powerful because he has so many followers, just like gods are powerful because enough people believe in them. I so used to being upset and disappointed by animations adaptions, this is a breath of fresh air for me.
