It's made by team Destiny so its said that it's being said that it'd probably be made in 2D.

2D character art, 3D backgrounds was what I read.

Would possibly be interested in this but it's on a handheld so I'll pass.

And what exactly is wrong with a handheld?

Tales of Innocence was easily one of the best ever Tales games made.

Nothing's 'wrong' with them, I just don't like them very much, especially for a real time game like Tales. Much rather sit comfortably with a big TV and a controller than lean over a little handheld with small buttons and no analog stick. If it's in Japanese, add tiny kanji to that.

No mention on which team did it. All they said was 2D sprite on 3D background.

No it wasn't. Innocence wasn't bad, but will never be one of the bests as a Tales game. The gameplay was too simple for its own good. (Yes, I'm talking about the puzzle-less dungeons where all you really do was run through it while dodging/getting chased by monsters that respawns.)

To be honest Tales games have never had very good dungeons compared to most games.

They always been mostly run through with one or two simple obstacles at most they're quite pretty design wise though Innocence did skimp even more there. I was mostly referring more to the story and battle gameplay though since thats where Tales is should be strong in and thats what Innocence managed to do right.

Perfectly reasonable. I've just never had any real problem with handhelds thats all, I actually sometimes prefer them to the traditional stuff.

I prefer handhelds. You can play them at work. I can't carry a TV around to play a console.

Though my DS screen looks like WW2 just happened on it...

Agreed. It was a great game. Art wasn't exactly my favorite, but everything else was wonderful.

Mmm... As a DS game, I might get it, but those field avatars are... meh.
Also have to see where those 3-D/tekken art/CG/whatever is used. The 2-D art looks nice, but if profile art and animation are the 3-D style... No...
And, of course, I hope Hearts doesn't intend to follow Ratatosk into not having a field map...

Dear god no... Tales Studios DON'T DO IT!!!! Don't go in the way of Square and make freakishly realistic CG characters. I can't stand the way "realistic" CG characters look... it always freaks me out... Tales has always been more "anime" based... don't break tradition... I beg of you!!

I'm not liking either the art or the CG both look odd to me.

Tales of Tempest Character Designer. The CG is awful IMO. Don't like it one bit. I want to see in game sprites before bashing the game.

Fresh from the Tales conference, game will use both animation movie and full 3D movie. Detailed report of the conference will be out later on.

Some CG and gameplay footage of Tales of Hearts. It actually looks almost identical to the Tales of Destiny remake gameplay.

Also announced during the conference is that they're now developing a brand new main series Tales of game for the Wii.

Gameplay looks more similar to Legendia, Phantasia and the PSX Destiny rather than the Destiny remake.

Actually if you take a closer look theres some obvious air comboing going on which was not introduced until Tales of Destiny PS2. Also there are allies attacking on both sides which rules out ToP and ToD PSX since they were 100% linear with the running back. Also considering its 2D sprites instead of 3D models and the aforementioned aerial combat I don't know where you get Legendia from.

The only thing similar really is that there seemingly is a TP gauge this time.

Even with the aerial combos involved, I refuse to acknowledge Hearts is similar to Destiny remake if the CC gauge isn't there but TP (stubbornness on my behalf, I know). As for the Legendia reference, the gauge above the 1st player hp bar reminded me of the climax gauge in ToL, but it was hasty assumption on my part; so yeah, my bad.

Honestly though, I'm getting really tired of TP ever since I played the PS2 Tales of games although it's probably only me and perhaps a very, very small portion of the total Tales of fanbase that feels they should step away from TP more.

Oh well, I'll be looking to get a shot at this when it's release. But I'm definitely not digging the 3D look on some characters.
