I'm just gonna interject here and say that I disagree with some of the hypotheses that LevelSeven has stated. Also, stop putting unmarked LN spoilers in this thread, DragonXX.

I can definitely divulge my own theories here but I just don't have the time right now and I'll need to throw out some LN facts. I'll do that when I get the time this week.

In the meantime, the thing that complicates matters is how Imagine Breaker is defined. Even in the novels its heavily implied that negating the supernatural isn't what IB's function is defined as; it just seems like its doing that on the surface.

So while its fine to just keep things simple as "IB negates magic" at least as far as the anime is concerned, the truth is a bit more complicated when taking into account what IB's higher order function is and some of the contradictions that already exist with IB being able to negate both "magic" and "science-based" esper powers. Not to mention what has already been discussed beforehand.
