Well, this was an excellent episode, and a great penultimate episode as it done a great job of setting up the big finale. Best episode since Episode 6, imo.
I liked how the episode went back and forth between Illya's heart-to-heart with her mom, and Miyu fighting Berserker. It kept the action seeming fresh while it also added greater weight to Iri's words as you get immediate validation of what she's saying through watching the action scenes. That being said, Miyu's fight with Berserker was quite courageous, impressive, and valiant. At the same time, Illya's rushing and flying off to the rescue, with a dramatic last second rescue, was like vintage Superman. Great, great stuff. I definitely look forward to the finale.

I don't even think 5K projected BD sales are enough for it to receive a second season, judging by how they are deliberately axing out every last bit of foreshadowing.
They'd need a good ret-con recap episode at the start of 2-wei to have 2-wei's development make sense, since Illya's 2wei's character development arc stretches all the way back to the material that this anime adaptation is very deliberately skipping. |

I'm sure if the sales are fine they can figure out a way to make the second season tie in. Maybe a bit roughly, but they could manage.
Anyways will say it was nice to see Miyu express her thoughts during that fight and use the Saber card to just go right at Berserker. Just stabbing right through him in that first charge and going right for the Excalibur blast .

May be I've been spoiled by excellent adaptations these two seasons but the last two episodes are a let down.
Fate Kalied Liner Prima Illya was short but it had a background plot that would be addressed in the sequels. For one thing Sella knew Illya almost got killed twice given her lock broke twice. In this episode Iris should have hinted to Illya she should not fear her own power. In the manga Miyu did not tell Illya they almost got killed because of her. Illya was scared that she is not normal. Something within her unlocked that she is afraid that she can't control it that she would harm others. Really writers why would you change the underlining dilemma of the plot? To make Miyu look a better character? Miyu is already an excellent character she didn't need these changes in plot. No wonder they spoiled a Zwei scene. |

Mama Iri! (Did she stop by Egypt or something?)
Anyway, a really good penultimate episode, that was one intense battle with Berserker. Liked the new ending theme and Choucho's insert song too. Can't believe this has only 10 episodes. Wish they'd hurry up and get on with Zwei already. |

I know that's how they're really used, but that doesn't explain little miss perfect suddenly pulling the ability to actually do it out of her ass and using the world's #1 mana drainer like it was nothing. Illya apparently has some hidden robot side that knows how to do it. What's little miss perfect's excuse? Seeing it once?

Speaking personally, I didn't mind that she was able to use Install. However, what I did mind a bit is Miyu maintaining complete control over herself when she does that, whereas Illya ended up blanking out and getting completely taken over by the Archer card when Illya did it. I don't see any good reason for the striking difference here. And its a difference that, yeah, raises thoughts of "Miyu Sue" for me.

Illya blanked out before she used the Archer card. The loss of memory was not related to the card.

And the result was fairly similar in completely depleting their mana after using such a big attack. The only difference is that with Sapphire around it's possible to stay in the fight better than Illya who was doing everything without Ruby. Could say the reason she was able to stay conscious is because she was using install with Sapphire

As for Miyu, the anime removed foreshadowing once again. Spoiler for manga:

Illya was breaking down before she used the Install maneuver, but it struck me as just a typical emotional breakdown. It didn't strike me as something that would actually cause memory loss. In any event, once Illya used Install, the Archer card completely took her over. If Illya losing control to the card was for a reason other than using Install then the anime could have been much clearer about that.
In any event, the contrast between Illya using this move and Miyu using this move certainly does make Miyu look better by comparison. Should this anime have a 2nd season, I hope we'll get to see Illya use install while maintaining control of herself, just to even things up a bit.

I'm disappointed also this episode didn't not present Illya's view point of Iris as an airhead mother. Only to show her mother is more than meets the eye. |

Why would I want anyone to spoil me? I'm just voicing my discontent at her randomly without any explanation being able to do something just by seeing someone else do it once for no reason other than being a damn Sue.

Regardless, it will be explained. Someday. And I would think it's plainly obvious by this point that Miyu is not a normal girl. She is not just some girl walking home one night from the convenience store when Sapphire fell into her lap. She's homeless. She has no family. She is not surprised at all by the existence of magic and she's a fighter. Just where on earth did this girl come from? Or the cards for that matter? |
