Sisters + Mothers - Kyou Fujibayashi (Clannad), Haruka Minami (Minami-ke)

Kyou was a person who was able to lead a group, make things happen, be supportive. 'Can't' didn't exist in her vocabulary - she always strived to succeed and to be a reliable friend/sister. Her smile could cut through the gloomiest of times and brighten up one's day. She knew how to inject some fun into a situation. Her ambition to be a kindergarten teacher was very reflective of her maternal instincts. She is a super cook. And beneath her tough exterior, there was a very warm and loving person - she simply didn't like to show it to many people.

Haruka is an interesting one. If she had lived under normal family circumstances, one gets the impression she would veg out quite a bit and have fun. Since she ended up having to raise her sisters, she morphs into a maternal role instead. Yet it suits her to the core. She loves her sisters, she loves being responsible and being the pillar of support for her sisters. She loves cooking, she loves her friends. She's able to balance the roles of mother hen, sibling and growing up herself very well. And she is one of the queens of :3 - you can't refute that. She'd be a joy to be around because she loves life and instills that positivity into everyone around her, yet remains humble and occassionally lets her full beauty show.

Brother - Edward Elric (Fullmetal Alchemist). Obvious choice, I guess. But to me, he was the only choice. He takes on the big brother role despite his unbefitting physical stature and the burdens that come with it. Yet it never wears him down - it's his drive. He continually rises to the challenge and pulls off the improbable. The only person he can truly open up to and get along with is his brother. So he's the ideal choice.

Daughter - Hinagiku (Hanamaru Kindergarten). You take one look at this girl and you feel humbled and a need to be responsible. She's clean-cut, adorable, polite, elegant, cultured - virtually perfect. You'd feel utterly fortunate and flattered to have her as your offspring.

Sawako Kuronama - Kimi ni Todoke. She really is the kindest, most honest, purest character I've ever seen. Seeing her experience things for the first time and feel them to the core of her heart in an innocent, genuine way is very heartwarming and cuts through cynicism with ease. And she can be so insanely funny without even trying to.

Son - Claus Valca (Last Exile). He is the fulfillment of dreams and wishes. He's a dreamer but his heart is in the right place and he has the skill and belief to make those dreams transcend into reality. He is heavily driven by the memory of his father, so the strength of that father-son bond is ever so evident. A rare example of a genuinely decent guy who managed to remain untainted by the carnage and visceral things that happened around him, stayed true to his friends and his memories and fulfilled a legacy.

Significant Other - C.C. (Code Geass). C.C. evokes something that I haven't seen a single other character in anime ever do. Her mere presence utterly strips you to the core, reveals all that you are, commands your respect. That's pretty much the given. What comes on top of that is the optional part and determines what type of person one really is. She is heavily flawed in some aspects and doesn't try to hide it. In fact, she really despises that and doesn't want forgiveiness, redemption or to be loved- yet she craves those things more than anything. So there is the option - do you treat her like anyone else and judge her? Or do you look over your own ego and realise that she is a person and that if she is genuinely sorry for her mistakes, that she does deserve forgiveness and to be loved? Part of being able to be with someone is to accept their flaws and still care for them despite that. And also to love them even when they don't love themselves, along with helping them love themselves once more. C.C. is anything but the easy option - she's hard. She can be very cold at times, very dismissive and harsh - but it's a front, a by-product of a harsh life that has left her jaded and shattered. To make her smile, feel loved, to bring her out of despair - there's something fulfilling about that. And in return you get loyalty, respect, someone who will look out for you and be there for you when it matters, with some genuine affection in an adult way. Regardless of the final outcome, it would still feel like it was worth it, come what may, along with the feeling that oneself has done something good.

Older sister: Makoto Kino/Sailor Jupiter, Sailor Moon:
Always loved her. Strong and athletic yet caring and beautiful. And if someone wants to mess with me, they'll have to answer to her!
