Maybe not 100% japanese but I watched it from the VHS of my parents and it is very very good

And yes Miyazaki worked on it (at least fully for the first 6 episodes)

There's a lot of shows that I wouldn't show my parents because of the fanservice (fetish pandering and jailbait don't seem like they'd play well to semi-conservative westerners), but there's certainly a few shows I think my parents would like. It seems like it would be awkward to ask, though.

(In particular, I keep thinking I should get my dad to watch Spice and Wolf. I have no idea if it's his kind of show, but when he talks about enjoying certain fantasy novels specifically because of a certain character, I can't help but think about Horo.)

My mother LOVES Crayon Shin-Chan and we watch it together many times. She can name all the characters, even minor ones, and such. She also likes older anime like Heidi, but that's all. Oh, and the Miyazaki movies.
As far as I know my father doesn't like anime. xD

This is the only anime my mother has ever bothered to somewhat follow. She didn't watched all the episodes, though. >_>

Oh, and if watching anime, reading the newspaper and faling asleep halfway through counts, then my father watches an anime episode every now and then!

My parents dont understand anime or watch them. They thought its a phase of evolution from Kung Fu movies .... . My mom calls them Chinese Cartoons ..... and to be honest I am not bothered . When they tell me NOT to watch Chinese Cartoons it does become a problem

My mom say, they're nonsense, brutal, and bad cartoons. It's a misunderstand, I think, an anime sometimes have more to say than a movie. I know, she only say it because TV shows the shows like Inuyasha. My father don't bother.

This is truly a generational thing. My parents originally watched some Bugs Bunny to learn English. The only modern cartoon they watch is King of the Hill.

Can you imagine a similar thread, 20 or so years in the future?

Do your parents still watch anime?

Maybe something along the lines of a bunch of yeses; "They watch a bunch of anime after dinner." Or maybe "Well, currently they're too busy now, but they definitely used to. I mean, they have old anime DVD collections in a library. They even join me if they have the time." I can also imagine this thread becoming obsolete when most of us become parents...

I made my mom watch Sword of the Stranger and she really enjoyed it :> I'm sure she would watch some series if she had more time (work and shit). As for my father, I wouldn't even try to talk with him about it ;b

My mom would watch Tototro with me a lot when I was little, and my dad saw about two thirds of Castle in the Sky once, but that's it as far as I can remember.

Like many people, my parents are also in the mindset anime = cartoon = for kids. I think they used to watch some with me when I was like 6 or 7 years old, but now, not even a chance ^^; I mean, they want me to STOP watching.

My Dad is the same way. He is closed minded about pretty much everything though. If it wasn't for my Mom some what accepting my (and my brother's) interests I would hear plenty from my Dad.

Since anime isn't that widely accepted I keep this interest to myself tho anyway.
